Anyone saying that the video's are "just traffic" doesn't know anything about Ottawa. I've lived here 30 of my 35 years. We are a sleepy government town. Our downtown core is completely empty after 7pm and all the public servants have cleared out, which doesn't even apply because they've been working from home for 2 years. Regularly at these red lights at night you'd see maybe a couple cars at most. The only sign of life after dark is around the byward market, which isn't the location of the protest. We earned the moniker "the city that fun forgot," for a reason.

There was an interview on CBC with the head of the Canadian Trucking Alliance who was condemning the convoy but at the same time he had to admit the failure of the liberal government to address the trucker shortage because they failed to invest in programs to attract young people or anyone for that matter to become a trucker or make the path easier (ie providing loans for training)

As he was previously black he can understand the hardships faced by his brothers at the hands of white supremacists.

Going to be interesting to see how they all get around. Streets are already blocked. My buddy who lives downtown says mostly it's pickup trucks and like a massive redneck convention. Seen half a dozen confederate flags. A bunch stormed the LCBO (liquor store) close by Parliament screaming "freedom" not wearing masks lol. And the honking is driving all the people who live there crazy.

Also most of the trucks had to idle all night because it was -30 so I'm wondering if they are going to run out of gas. There's no gas stations anywhere near downtown that can handle filling up a large truck.

Just waiting for the powder keg to go off. It's going to be interesting to see which way it goes, civil or not. Or if most people just get fed up with marching around or driving around honking in -37 weather. Someone said a group posted that they should all drive to members of Parliaments' houses and that would get results. Yeah, it would - you'd get arrested in a heartbeat.

Funniest part is I saw someone post that Trudeau's staffers would be complaining about all the noise and make him do something. They've been working from home the entire time and it's Saturday anyway. Nobody is even on Parliament Hill except security guards and police.

If the word gets around the WALL OF CENSORSHIP then truckers through all of north America [the world?] could participate without going any where at all.

It would be a risk, but it could be done. How much it might affect individual trucker's employment would depend on their contracts I'm guessing.

Imagine if all the truck drivers justdrove their rigs more slowly?

I think it's great that they're doing this. Even if it doesn't work it's better than sitting back and taking it. At least it's showing people that a lot of us are fed up with these mandates and there's plenty willing to put their money where their mouth is in protesting them.

The front of the convoy was a decent amount of 18 wheelers and pickups with flags but after a short time it petered off to what looked like normal 401 traffic on a weekday



I dunno how many people in this thread are there or were curious enough to go to an overpass or where the convoy was but I was a little let down after being told its like a 300 mile bumper to bumper convoy of 18 wheelers

Im not saying its not popular, but it felt like local crowds showing support that im seeing in videos are way bigger

Looks like under 1000 people. Although the convoy from Arnprior hasn't arrived yet which is another 100 trucks and 250 vehicles.

So far from all accounts just a lot of driving, honking and shouting. Don't know if there are actual speeches or anything planned.

One trucker I saw interviewed said they have enough supplies to stay for weeks.
