Huh, and here I thought places like North Korea and Russia are much better examples of wealth concentrated at the top.
As of 2022, Kim Jong-Un's net worth is roughly $5 billion.
meanwhile
Average income in North Korea is between $1,000 and $2,000 per year
and then
Russia’s billionaire class has swelled to 117 tycoons (up from 99 last year) worth a collective $584 billion (up from $385 billion).

More than a third of the gains come from just ten billionaires. The ten wealthiest Russians are worth $223 billion
meanwhile
Average (median ) of 25,000 rubles per month, net worth 1 million rubles. That is US$397 per month of income, and net worth of US$15,877.
Doesn't get much more concentrated than those numbers.

Here's some averages for the US
The average American has $90,460 of debt, but the average net worth is $748,800. Net worth tends to increase with age as assets appreciate in value over time and people’s salaries grow over their careers.
The average American annual real wage was $67,521 in 2020
Guess I learned that NK and Russia operate on unchecked capitalism. Interdasting.

Does anyone else not understand this?

I've been working for over 15 years and all I'm seeing us boomers in most of the higher positions they don't do anything but sit around or look at their phones. Then you see a bunch of late gen x, millenials and zoomers doing all rhe work

Just insane to think this is all there is to life 80% of the time.

You sound ignorant and non worthy for a debate. My post didn't imply anything about wanting "free". Not everybody that picks at Capitalism wants "free". I don't expect handouts, free college, or free healthcare.

What I do expect is a fair playing ground for American people. But you're ok with Corporations like Black Rock and the Chinese buying houses making them unaffordable for the lower and middle class.

The median price of an American house has increased by 28 percent over the last two years, as pandemic-driven demand and long-term demographic changes send buyers into crazed bidding wars.

Might the fact that corporate investors snapped up 15 percent of U.S. homes for sale in the first quarter of this year have something to do with it? The Wall Street Journal reported in April that an investment firm won a bidding war to purchase an entire neighborhood worth of single-family homes in Conroe, Texas—part of a cycle of stories drumming up panic over Wall Street’s increasing stake in residential real estate. Then came the backlash, as cool-headed analysts reassured us that big investors like BlackRock remain insignificant players in the housing market compared with regular old American families.

Did you miss this part:
"Although the number of houses being purchased by mega-investors is currently not enough to move the market in most parts of the country, these firms’ underlying structural advantage is profound and growing."

Never said I was ok with it but those two examples still doesn’t take away from the fact capitalism is still the most successful economic system in history.

I mean I can name more examples if you want me to. Politics, gaming, etc. Capitalism is human greed, plain and simple, it's led to lower quality products and corruption in the name of the mighty dollar. Nickel and dime you any way possible, because that's the goal of business right? This is why companies that go public turn to **** overnight. It happens every time because stockholders don't give a ****.

you're posting online so you are doing ok. You live in literally the best time to be alive ever and in a country where our working poor have a better life than 99% of all the people that came before them. But you are focusing on what you don't have instead of what you do have and your opportunities.

If you are at least 95 IQ and hardworking, you’ll come out with a 2:1 at least, which is good enough to work for most companies. Get a job, set aside some, invest some.

Within 6-10 years, you can decide to set up your own small business. There are so many gov initiatives for startup loans. You might fail a few times but if you have a decent work ethic and can learn from your mistakes can within a few years, you’ll have a small business turning over 100k yearly profit, keep growing that.

If not academic, take up a trade apprenticeship. Work for a few years and then set up a sole trader. Set up a website and a GMB ranking and you will easily making 90k+ per year. This applies to any trade, plumbing, mechanic, heck I have sole trader moving services clients making £100k+ per year working part time (they hire the labour).

I think people who complain about capitalism are either:

- fked up in the past and are at a disadvantage (criminal record, fked up school bad and no apprenticeship or any relevant work exp). Basically stayed a manchild and is too behind to play with the adults, so since you can’t win the game, just throw the board and pieces on the floor.

- too lazy to work.

- doesn’t understand delayed gratification, can’t put in the work for the long term, wants results yesterday.

- too stupid to apply the basics above, if you’re sub 80 IQ, it will be hard for you to get ahead. But you can still do manual labour trade work and be the best at that.

- just doesn’t understand the system. Would rather complain about the rules of the game than play it to win.
Topic clearly says American capitalism, how is UK relevant

It's a simple question. If you could only afford a $1000 smartphone would you be happy and satisfied with life? Affording a $1000 smartphone puts you in the 1% wealth worldwide.

I didn't know not being able to afford a basic home and basic car are things I shouldn't focus on.

Capitalism didn't lead to lower quality products, consumers and technological advancement did.

You can still buy extremely basic appliances that will last 30 years but they don't sell well because most people opt for lower quality with more bells and whistles and the product life doesn't matter cause they're eager to replace them in a few years when something new comes out.
