This but better weather in ATL plus cheaper COL. If you’re high test crew, you’ll love the whale population in the South

Toronto is the better city in all areas. Imagine if North York had even a fraction of the crime that happens at Lenox Square Mall alone. JFL.

There's definitely more crime in Atlanta, but again.... Atlanta is unique in that all of the respectable places to live are outside of the perimeter. Most major cities aren't structured like Atlanta.

If you want to actually ;I've in the city then yeah stick to Toronto. But if OP is open to living outside of the perimeter Atlanta > Toronto.
"One day I won't be able to lift any more. Not I won't want to lift. I mean physically unable. That day could be decades from now or it could be tomorrow. All I know is that's the day I'll wish I could lift more than ever. The day I'd give anything for one more workout, one more set, or one more cardio session. So go hard and enjoy every workout, every set, every rep. Because one day you will wake up and you will never get it back."

Also is North York even in the city limits of Toronto? The actual city limits or is it considered part of the metro area.

Based on this map it looks like part of the metro area but I don't know enough about the boundaries of Toronto

If it's not part of the city limits then you aren't even comparing apples to apples when you talk about North York and Buckhead. Buckhead is actually in the perimeter of Atlanta. North York looks more comparable to Alpharetta if you want to draw comparison properly.

Toronto basically annexed the suburbs in the late 90s to form a system similar to the boroughs of NYC. North York was a suburb but today functions as more of an outer neighborhood. Also, the urban core of Toronto is much larger, denser and more expansive than that of Atlanta. While Buckhead is in close proximity to downtown, it’s separated by several miles of lower density development along Peachtree before the dense high rises pick up again. This is similar to North York in Toronto where Yonge Street is the main urban commercial corridor that is separated into three segments that can be compared to Atlanta’s three.

Downtown Atlanta = Downtown Toronto
Midtown Atlanta = Yonge & Bloor (Midtown)
Buckhead = North York

You can kinda make out the parallels in this aerial shot looking south from North York towards Downtown Toronto.

I only spent a few hours in Charlotte as a stopover driving between Atlanta and New York 2 summers ago so I could’ve misread it. Made it a point to explore the city in that time though. Downtown seemed very impressive. The streets were clean. Every building looked brand new lol. There was a country concert going on in the middle of the day and tons of people out. I will say the outskirts of Charlotte that I saw were a mix between ghetto and boring cookie cutter suburbia. The city also felt much smaller than it should outside of downtown. Almost a rural vibe in the inner city. 6/10 would try one more time.

I’d definitely be interested to explore South Carolina more. A lot of people I know are looking into a move to Greenville. Upstate SC is in the midst of a major boom. The Low country is hnnng geographically however. Charleston is an amazing city. I could see myself settling either there or Savannah one day although the summer heat is a bitch.

I think it’s easier to escape Atlanta than those others and enjoy the good parts. It’s much cheaper than most major cities and it’s more spread out. It’s more of a metro area than a city tbh. Most of the population actually does not live in the perimeter. So as sh*tty as inside the perimeter can be, there’s still places to live and not hate your life if you’re selective enough and live within that bubble.

I personally don’t want to move back because I simply prefer smaller cities more than anything. If I absolutely had to live in a cornerstone city the way Atlanta is that cornerstone for the South, I do think it’s better than the rest. Part of that may be my experience knowing how to escape the bad parts in favor of the good parts because I’m from the area and know it very well.

It’s a much greener city than most others though. There’s more parks and trees. Like I said, just much more spread out.

I’m personally moving near Knoxville soon though and I’d much rather live near a city of that size than Atlanta these days. Admittedly I’m still trying to find that perfect balance where I’m not out in the middle of nowhere but not directly in a large city with tons of people. I’m excited for Knoxville. When I went to Auburn I loved it so the college atmosphere won’t bother me and I’m hoping that since it’s more of city than Auburn I’ll get the benefits without going overboard like Atlanta.

We’ll see

One last thing to add on Atlanta is that there’s construction going on everywhere for like the last 10 years. As if traffic wasn’t bad enough, plan to have that layered on to piss you off even more. Especially around the 400/285 connector. It’s a nightmare
All things considered, some of those cities are far better choices for a young man than Atlanta could ever hope to be. Chicago is real fun for your 20s if you stay out of the bad areas and it is heavily divided between sketchy area versus fun safe area. I'd say almost all of those cities you listed are better than Atlanta for a younger guy who wants to experience city life, meet lots of women, and have fun.

Atlanta is awful for most young single men in their 20s. The entire scene runs through Buckhead itself and if you were not in some SEC fraternity, have fun making friends period even after college because people care a lot about that stuff. You might luck out with VA Highlands but even then, you get annoying hipsters.

What sucks the most about Atlanta is the culture itself. Not sure what it is but people in that area just seem to be really smug and hard to deal with. Everyone comes off as having an angle, sketchy, or trying to steal something from you. People are constantly in social ladder climbing mode and trying to desperately be cool in adulthood. Everyone is trying to be seen and it's the worst in the church scene. The culture itself lends to a lot of sex shaming and self-righteous types.

In other big cities, especially NYC and Chicago, you meet chill people. People who want to get to know you and then determine based on that whether or not they like you. You can go out on a night and make some decent friends and drinking buddies. In Atlanta, it does not happen like that.

NYC and Chicago are chill? No f*cking way. I've been to both. Everyone in NYC in particular is rude as sh*t.

I admit, I'm not "going out drinking" to bars because that's not my scene these days. If that's the sole criteria you're defining this on then maybe Chicago and NYC are better than Atlanta... I don't know. But in terms of the rest of day to day life, I'd take Atlanta. The weather is better and there's more to do (non-bar related activities) within close proximity. Yes college is big down here. And maybe it's cause I went to an SEC school but it's easy as sh*t to make friends by simple association of rooting for the same teams. So I guess I have an advantage in that respect. But even if you didn't go to the school pick a side and root for one of them on gameday and I guarantee people on that side will be receptive to you. It's not rocket science.

It's far easier to bond over sports down here than it is in Chicago or New York. People will talk to you for hours about college sports. Even girls. Girls up north don't care about sports the way they do down here because there's the social ties to the schools that girls love. It's easy as hell to strike up conversations with girls just based on the topic of college sports down here alone. The rivalries are an automatic talking point and make it very easy to tease/flirt. With CHI and NYC, both those cities are split in half with the sports they care about because there's 2 pro teams (Cubs/CWS, NYY/NYM, Jets/Giants, Knicks/Nets) and no halfway decent colleges anyone cares about. Hell, all you have to do is root against Alabama down here and you just made friends with 90% of the fanbase lol.

Also Buckhead is a known douchebag spot. The entire scene doesn't run through Buckhead. You have VA Highlands, Midtown and Westside as alternative options. Considering Atlanta is a fraction of the population of Chicago or NYC, naturally there's fewer spots. If you bars are your thing you can find good spots in Atlanta without going to Buckhead. There's also plenty of Breweries which tend to be more popular down here as well. It's obvious you don't know how to navigate ATL.

I already admitted being in the city is a sh*thole though. I'm not exactly defending in the perimeter. In fact, I'm suggesting to stay out of it. I just think it's laughable some of you think other major cities like NYC or Chicago are better. They're all sh*t holes. And at least with Atlanta, it's not all contained in the perimeter like those other cities.

Population in ATL is 500k. In the metro area 6.1 mil

Population in Chicago is 3 mil compared to metro being 9 mil. So 33% of the population of CHI is contained in that sh*t hole city.

The problem is you think Atlanta needs to be experienced in the city when clearly it doesn't. No wonder you hate it. You think it runs through Buckhead. You actually think the entire 5.5 mil living outside the perimeter is heading into the perimeter each weekend to party? No. Obviously many will, but not even close to the all of that 83% that sits outside fo the perimeter is gravitating inward. Maybe try finding some places to go outside the perimeter. Guarantee you'll have a better time if you're looking for a chill environment. There's plenty of places in Marietta and Alpharetta/Roswell areas.

Don't even get me started on the fact there's far more republican girls down here. I don't think there's a single republican female in Chicago or NYC (exaggerating obviously). But seriously, most girls from up North are straight up entitled feminist c*nts. Down here you have some of those, mostly the ones who've migrated here because there are a lot of transplants in Atlanta. But the ones born in the South will also give you access to some that prefer traditional ways. Yeah, that obviously also means they expect traditional roles from your side as the man as well and maybe some of you don't fit that modeling that's why you struggle.

If anything by your description, it sounds like the ones you dislike are the ones who didn't even originate from here. Constantly trying to climb the social ladder? Buddy... that's Chicago and NYC to a T. If it's happening in Atlanta too it's from northern migrants, so I find it hard to believe it's worse in Atlanta than NYC and Chicago.... calling bullsh*t on that one.

Whew that was a long post so where do I even begin.

Yes, I meant that if you are a single guy in his 20s or even 30s wanting to experience big city life, make new friends, and smash lots of randoms than Chicago and NYC are miles ahead of Atlanta. I'd put most major cities ahead of Atlanta. You hype up the spots outside of the perimeter way too much for this sort of thing so let me tell you where you are wrong.

Most people are married with kids there and are stuck in their old college frat crowds. People in Atlanta do not venture out of their social groups all that often and then on top of that, you have that fake goody two shoe church boy nonsense. People will act all self-righteous and good to put on the act of being a good Christian but then deep down engage in cut-throat social politics and gossip. There is just not that much of a scene in Atlanta to enjoy your 20s unless you went to an SEC school and are willing to live vicariously through sports.

Meanwhile, go to NYC and find that there is a scene for just about anything. Go to a random bar or club on a weekend or even weeknight and find random women down to smash, cool dudes trying to live the bachelor life, and an overall less judgmental crowd.

Sure, there are popularity contests but they are different in both cities. In NYC and Chicago, it is about what you have accomplished. In Atlanta, it's about who you were in high school and college along with nonsense country club what church you go to type of BS.

Atlanta is god awful for any single dude who wants to meet cool people and enjoy the city life. Everyone is either trying to flash bling or put on the mask of a good Christian.

On the topic of Republican women since you want to go there.

Atlanta has tons of liberals and isn't all that conservative. In fact, good luck finding that many Conservative women unless you join a church if you are in any major city. Atlanta has the BLM and pro-gay scene. If you want those sorority girls who vote Trump, lol too late, they are already engaged to their college boyfriend.

The entire scene of Atlanta is legit geared towards people wanting to settle down and settle into the dad life. Even if you are a single guy, it will force you in that direction with the goody two shoe Church goer types.

I admit, it would not be the worst city to settle down in but in terms of being single and wanting to get laid as you meet cool people? I'd say Charleston, Nashville, and Raleigh are far superior.
