But yeah, my disdain for this game being crossgen has lessened with these reviews, seeing the changes and upgrades they've added for the sequel makes it a very natural evolution for the series. It's great to see, and even more mindblowing is that its still running on a ps4. Hopefully dipping their toes into the ps5 version this early means that whatever guerrila builts ground up next for the ps5 will be absolutely mental because they have an idea now of how the system works.

Not sure which mode I'm gonna play, but most likely quality for that image quality and gfx goodness.
Of some of that is actually wayyy worse than I was anticipating lol. But the pop in on those structures seem more like a bug to me, but I’m not sure

But if there is no option, I can adjust and get used to 30

Most of the time I’ll choose 120 over 60 when given the option as well. But the difference isn’t nearly as big as 30 vs 60

I do think mid gen consoles would be beneficial, probably holiday 2024. And just push the gen out until 2028 or even 2029.

Matrix demo was 1080p/30.

Forbidden west’s performance mode is 1080p checkerboarded up to 1800p.

Dying light 2’s performance mode was 1080p/60. Ray tracing mode was 1080p/30.

Guardians of the galaxy performance mode was 1080p/60, in addition to lowered settings.
Yeah bro one issue I have with the ps4 isn't so much the older graphics but the frame rates. It's extremely visible to my eye and legitimately makes my game feel like it's lagging somehow. I don't play PC games other than Dota and this is just from seeing friends play on series X and top tier gaming PCs and then I finally realised how bad I had it.

There will be a ps5 pro but no way in hell it will be in 2024. That may have been in a normal cycle but with the shortages and barely being able to make enough base ps4's, they will only start working on the pro when the base consoles reach saturation and people start wanting the next upgrade. They will want people to buy their ps5 and then also upgrade to a pro later on.

Plus, due to shortages they have been making games cross gen. I think we need a few years of them to focus on the ps5 platform and really bring out the power.

Agreed for sure, I was very disappointed when I heard they are making Horizon 2 and Ragnarok for old gen as well, but seeing the previews, it's like I can't even imagine how they could look any better. I'll be very happy with how they look and once they start building the new ones ground up for the PS5 the graphics are gonna slap. Remember, my last Horizon was the original on my base ps4 at 30 FPS. LUL. When the H2 trailer first came out I saw it on my fuking PHONE in 1440p and I couldn't believe what I was seeing.

Lol, thanks brah. Even if you don't like the concept, Ithe combat mechanics in the original was the best I've played. Extremely satisfying as the game is sorta like a shooter that urges you to mostly use your ranged weapons to chip away at your enemy till weak points are exposed.

Guerrila really put some effort into the PS5 version, that actually looks pretty damn good. Hopefully GOW: Ragnarok gets the same treatment, if not better.

I watched a few comparison vids and what I am confused about is if I'm going resolution or performance mode. Such a shame we can't have both but I guess the ps5 pro will fix that.

The resolution mode, just from videos on my phone clearly looks quite sharper. However the movement at 30fps clearly looks so laggy to me. I guess I'll have to try both and decide for myself.

Many Sony titles get some sort of performance/fidelity mode patched in after launch.

Unfortunately it really pays not to play games at launch these days as you don't get the best experience. Shortly after I finished SMR and MM they released Performance Raytracing mode, FML.

Sorry I stated that wrong. The game does have both modes, performance and resolution. What I meant is that it's a shame the hardware can't push full resolution and at 60fps at the same time, which I think the ps5 pro will be able to do.

From comparisons, performance mode is just so much smoother to me but it's definitely soft, while the resolution mode is much crisper to my eye and that's just on mobile.

Right, maybe I explained it wrong. Games that typically launch with two modes have a 3rd patched in that is a balance of the two letting you pick a compromise between the two extremes. Spiderman games added a Performance Raytracing mode and RnC added a 40fps Fidelity mode.

That RnC 40fps RT mode is with a 120fps display right? I remember watching the DF video where they were praising it but was a bit confused. I do have a LG C9 which is hdmi 2.1, so should I always have the ps5 set to 120 output or will that mess up things unless you’re specifically playing something that can either utilize that fps, or like the RnC update, advantage for a different reason.

Oh nice. The 40fps sounds like it would really be that sweet spot because I'm seeing that 40 is closer to 60 than 30 based on how the tech works. I think you need a 120hz display for the 40 FPS mode to work though I'm not sure.

The particle effects on the performance mode looked pretty bad in that video, but I think they'll fix that, seems like a small thing.

60fps looks super solid though, I'll definitely try it out ... All this res/frames thing is really dependent on the individual imo and more importantly, the game. All of sony's exclusives have incredible performance at 30fps, super smooth and steady .. Never had an issue with it, same with something like guardians of the galaxy. 60 fps in sony games is just a very nice bonus, but 30 is more than fine for me personally.

Some games just ruin the 30fps aspect though, it plays horrible, feels horrible ... Control is one example, the 30fps rtx mode was abysmal, I couldnt stomach it and switched to 60 fps ... Meanwhile I played Miles Morales and Rachet and Clank in 30fps and they felt amazing.

I don't know man, the 30fps on my ps4 in games always felt a little jarring to me. Even horizon like I could feel the choppiness. Bloodborne as well. I'll see how it is on ps5 but even from videos it makes me uncomfortable lol.

Yeah it's all gucci. Different strokes and all ... I'm just glad I can stomach 30 fps lmao. Bloodborne was pretty bad 30 fps while on that topic.

It's a substantial improvement just watch that comparison video I put up and check out the reviews mgtp put up .... The amount of work they've put into the sequel is insane. The cutscene direction and character models especially is a generation ahead compared to Horizon 1.

I'm so tempted to double dip and buy the game via another regional store so that I can play this game 3 hours ahead on Thursday, instead of waiting for Friday 12pm afternoon unlock my time (why do americans live 12 hours in the past for me fuuu)

So from the reviews I have heard I am very excited for this. It's essentially more of the same but improved in all areas, but with the same shortcomings. I'll enjoy the world, combat, and performance even more and will probably hate the story and characters just as much. Surely won't be day 1 for me and hearing about the bugs and only two graphics modes confirm my thoughts to hold off. Interested to get the takes of miscers who are jumping in right away though. I am glad I can count on Bongo to play every videogame released on day 1.

isn't that the truth. So many people bich about sequels and always complain nothing is original, like that "upcoming games of 2022 thread". I posted a thread a couple weeks ago about ghostwire tokyo, an new IP, and absolutely zero responses to the thread lmao.

Some people just like to wallow in misery and complain about everything.

I've been hearing how much attention went into improving the game and how polished it feels overall. Have never seen a review or much gameplay yet but i did look at a short DF graphics comparison and one major upgrade I noticed was the fluidity in actions and expressions of the characters. They move much more like real humans now, there's actual acting instead of mostly blank characters with mouths moving such as older games like fallout and skyrim. This upgrade really adds to the realism.

Another thing I noticed was how cute Aloy was, no homeau but I was a little terrified when I saw that one meme about her looking older and fatter. Even I made fun of it, but seeing her face in this one laid my doubts to rest, she looks fuking fantastic.

I hate when people expect a game to bring SO MUCH NEW THINGS in the sequel. Like come on mane. I want a sequel because i loved the original. Fix a few main flaws, give a few quality of life improvements, maybe vary the battle system a bit, some better graphics and a new story with my beloved characters and I'm good. I just want a part 2 of the first game I don't want a whole overhauled experience.

I've seen the videos, the cutscene direction and facial animations are insane this time around. It's a complete generation ahead of HZD1. It's one of the things that actually annoyed me in Ghost of Sushima, the cutscene direction is pretty bad .. You just talk to everyone in a static 1 to 1 interaction, there's hardly any movement etc. Definitely something that will be fixed for the sequel, because the studio has done some good cutscene work with the ps4 infamous.

Yeah the Aloy face memes are hilarious, but honestly her in-game character model is pretty damn rad and people actually complaining about it need to get a life srs. It' s nothing like the memes make it out to be lmao.

most people on here get off on complaining about games than actually playing them, and for the most part, people enjoy their normie titles like warzone, cod, battlefield than trying out new games. Well those voices are usually louder than the people who actually enjoy playing games lol.

Some people just like to wallow in misery and complain about everything.
I agree with your sentiment 100% but have to say that Ghostwire game like chit to me, so I can imagine others feel the same. Give me a good looking new game and I'll get as excited for it as a sexual to a known hit.

The guy who cries the most about videogames on here just drives in circles and play animal crossing.

How did you feel about gameplay in the first game? Seem most reviews love the gameplay in this one saying it's an improvement in pretty much every way.
