As a Russian and looking from Russia's point of view, an attack on Ukraine makes very little sense. Too many cons just to get Ukraine out of future NATO membership. I think it is pretty obvious that Putin is playing mind games. Whether it's now or when the dust settles, you'll be able to see all the cracks in NATO alliance.

France already wants Europe's own security arrangement and to be closer to Russia. Germany will also consider it's options because they can see that U.S. is ready to sacrifice Germany's interests for America's. Other will question NATO overall existence because it only enrages Russia, which can easily lead to a war, war that isn't necessary. Many will see this as America's provocation just to protect it's interests in Europe, etc.
With all the domestic issues in the U.S., this looks like just the beginning of America's downfall when it comes to influence in Europe and elsewhere. Ukrainian people also understand that NATO is not an option for them, it never will be. Unless you want war then it'll never be an option.

I mean honestly, do you seriously think Russia is going to march into Ukraine and get condemned by half of the world just to put a puppet in Ukrainian office? And for what? So he can potentially be overthrown in a year or two and be condemned by the rest of the world anyway? Putin has done nothing but troll NATO.

I said I was going to try to be neutral about issues in the Russia-Ukraine situation

I wasn't taking sides this time and haven't for a long time.

It's an interesting event and I have been a current events enthusiast since the 90's discussing all interesting current events all over the planet whenever they happen.

However even when I was simply neutrally discussing this more recently by just posting the things going on info etc for info and discussion, I still got attacks and harassment by the pro-Russian side - and I mean angrily harassingly so for simply posting basic information about the events as they happened. especially on Twitter for example but other places also. It makes it next to impossible to be neutral and really pushes me towards supporting the Ukrainian side and against the Russian one.

I understand very well the Putin has his influencers. It's his right and understandable. However the way they are acting they are having the opposite of the effect of what he hopes to achieve if he hopes to achieve intelligent people coming to the Russian viewpoint and in support of Russia in general.

There's also something going on in Syria - oh, wait, that's been going on since 2011.
