I haven't played the first one since the year it came out, so I can't tell that easily. I'm sure it's improved upon but the game doesn't do anything gameplay wise that is impressive imo. It's good, but I think in the ps5 era I want to be amazed and feel like something is being done that couldn't before from a gameplay perspective.

After putting in 8 hours, I can only lol and remember that thread with all those retarded xcels calling this a "dlc" or press x to assassinate game that doesnt do anything new.




In it's first few hours this game as a sequel is right on par with Witcher 3, Mass Effect 2, UC2 and Assassins Creed 2 as being a game that has improved over it's predecessor.



- Graphics are absolutely insane, it's hard to believe this is a cross-gen game. I'm playing this on my dad's Oled C7 and I'm just counting the days till I go back home next week and play it on my 65" C9 ... It's one of the best looking games released on any platform - I'd say it even surpasses RDR2 as far as open-world graphics goes. The art style of this game elevates the tech behind it as well. Everything from the environments, the animations, the character models, the level of detail ... Unreal. I'm also playing it on 30 fps Quality mode and it's fantastic ... I tried the performance, but there's definitely a hit in the anti-aliasing /image quality that I can easily sacrifice 60fps just to enjoy this game with the best visuals.

- Cutscenes / Presentation / facial animation / ... Amazing. I dont know how they did it, but every single character I've come across in this game looks so good, and sounds even better. Even throwaway characters sound excellent srs lol.

- Game is just brimming with atmosphere, the towns finally feel like towns, and everything looks lived in .. HZD had some of the worst towns/shelter places, but this game they've fixed all that.

- Game is excellent as always, I'm playing on hard mode and a fight I had just now felt like I was in a movie lol, it was a main story mission, but just the moment to moment gameplay is so damn cinematic and really makes you feel like you're playing a blockbuster movie and this is without any set pieces ... It was just a massive brawl.

- There seems to be a crapton of weapons, different sub-types, weapon powers ... It's all a bit overwhelming and I'm trying to figure out how to use everything properly, but so far I'm just using the regular bow and arrow to do everything. I don't know how anyone could call this not fun, either they're not very good or they're playing this on easy difficulty.

- Game looks like it has a ton of content too and in a good way. So many cool things they've added.

- sidequests have been a blast so far



Things I dont like -

-The amount of looting / having to craft stuff like ammo on the go - Just feels like an extra timesink that they could have done without. At least give me a pick around the radius like thing or an auto-pick up for certain things.

- they've really upgraded the climbing, you have more ledges and way more ways of getting around places which is great, but its kinda annoying having to use the focus to see where you can climb, so I just turned on the accessbility setting where climbable spots are marked so I dont have to waste time looking around the environment and spamming my focus constantly to scan for climbable areas.

- the focus scanner should keep items highlighted for much longer and the radius needs to be bigger. I'm having to constantly spam it if I fight a big battle that involves me running around a lot with enemies all over the place lol.






Coal man, mgtp and other fans of the original game are in for a treat with this. Your body is not ready for how improved this game is. Also get this on PS5 only ... You'd be a fool to play this on ps4.

Everything you've said is basically what I am expecting and am excited for. Did I hear something in one of the reviews that there is an option for auto-looting? Maybe that eould help you if so.

Bro I downloaded a 2GB 7min video of Aloy just walking around and I can't believe how insane it looked on my phone. Immediately put it on my monitor and my mind was blown apart. The level of crispness and details in the textures... Like the rocks by the beaches and the stone walls covered by vines and moss. You gotta remember I'm a PS4cel so I'm not anywhere close to seeing this level before. And that was just a video on my small monitor, now imagine the real thing on my TV lol.

Another big point you mentioned that I'm so excited about is the towns. There were only a tiny handful of towns/cities in HZD that felt like actual towns. The rest of the "settlements" felt fake. Even in the actual towns they just didn't have that lived-in feeling. The NPCs were just so basic with limited interaction. Coupled with the robotic acting and dialogs, it just took me out. I'm so happy all these reports are coming in of settlements feeling real. When I get locked into a story I love, I really enjoy exploring and just walking around and seeing the sights. Horizon's setting is unique in that it allows Devs to create so many varied sights and landscapes. In the video I have, there were some tall skyscrapers covered in vegetation and the camera pans down and allows you to just get a view of Aloy's body
and the entire of the buildings and the level of detail you can see all the way up to the peak was incredible.

Loling @ your complaints too, as they seem minor and nothing jarring or game breaking. I'll play with the HUD settings to get what I want. Heard there's a way to eliminate most of them and only have vital stuff up when you're on combat, etc.

I dunno, I haven't played it but judging by all your posts from this past year I tend to think you are expecting more than will deliver this early on in a generation. I was hoping this would crack a 90 metacritic really indicating it's a leap forward rather than a step but that is pretty uncommon. God of War was probably the one game last gen that did that and how far into the PS4s life did it come? 5 years?

This will be a great year of games and we are early on but I think HFW will at least be in the conversation when it's GOTY nominees time.

Just saying it's a prettier zero dawn is doing a huge disservice to the game and the effort they've put into the sequel. Last years GOTY as voted by fans Forza is also then just forza 4 with prettier graphics (just an example - But I'm assuming forza 5 brought about so many changes and refined the systems that it was worthy of the current 90+ metacritic it has).


- Sequel added an in-game board game, same like Gwent and AC Vallaha's Olav or whatever it's called.
- The cutscene, voice acting, is a generation ahead of what was in HZD
- The traversal systems have improved - Glider, the grapple-shot, and the ability to climb far more places and more directions to climb without it being a set path
- Added multiple skill trees with super powers and super-super powers within it
- Multiple new tribes , entirely new locations, biomes
- Added a whole roster of new machines with old ones coming back
- More environmental / platforming puzzles


Honestly dont know what kind of game you expected to play when guerrila have improved and refined on almost everything that made HZD into a massive success.

That's my issue. I just couldn't get into the characters or the story of the first one. The story was annoying, Alloy is pretty boring and kind of a "Mary Sue" type. There was kind of a feminist vibe that was whack. I got like 30% through and just said fuggit. Now I'm on Witcher 3 and find the characters so much better.

Not sure how she was Mary Sue because the game clearly showed her as being an outcast and hated on by her tribe, being unable to make friends and quite anti social, immature and childish, headstrong and naive and it led her into making some stupid mistakes which she was punished for. But I guess you didn't play out the game.

So Witcher 3 is my favorite game of all time.

Can you tell me how Geralt is not a Gary Stu? If you compare him to Aloy, Geralt is much more capable, a better fighter, very much in control, doesn't lose focus and give into his anger, feared and respected, even by kings and mages. He felt far more perfect and mature than Aloy and I can confidently say if I was lost in an island filled with the worst creatures imaginable I'd 100% choose Geralt as a companion.

Now if you want to call her boring or say you just don't like her or can't relate that's perfectly fine. The story and characters ain't for you and if I felt that way about a game I won't bother spending all that money on buying the sequel.

I mean I guess you can make Geralt into a Gary Stu if you want, but you can also make him into a drunken sex crazed deviant who does immoral things. He's obsessed with Yen even though he knows Yen is bad for his brain, but he gives into carnal lust. Like I said, I didn't really play out HZD, the vibe seemed off to me.
