Maybe they could have included some more scripted side missions with companions to make it feel less empty I guess. Rather than go here, kill this town of mobs, return we could have had some more dynamic or even fun quests.Agreed. Also agree with what the other poster said about the world being empty. For example, would you skip a sci fi game if you're fighting aliens? What if the aliens also send in drones/robots to fight you?

Decided to play through Frozen Wilds to prep for when Forbidden West comes down in price. Because I wiped my PS4 hard drive and redid it I have to start from the beginning of Zero Dawn, and the funny thing is, I don't even care because the game is just so damned good. Taking down that first Sawtooth is such a rush.

Turning on the easy-loot for when machines are killed is the absolute goat. Nobody got time to knock off multiple components for each enemy especially when the game needs all these specific resources from enemies in order to upgrade everything.
Also mind was blown Aloy actually sweats in the Desert climate ... Crazy detail.
This game just keeps getting better and better. I'm 20 hours in and only just reached the second main area/biome. I'm probably gonna take a long time to finish this game because I'm trying to do everything that I possibly can.

Difficulty is very fair and medium is giving me a good fight which I like and yep, some of the hit boxes are really too accurate, so knocking off parts can be an issue, especially since these guys are fast and some of the components/weak points are located in really hidden away/tight spots that you honestly would have to be a damn good shot to get to imo.
But that's why the accessbility settings are awesome. Me, you and everyone can cater the game to how we want to play and how we want to enjoy them. It's really great to see how much Guerrilla went towards making this game cater to everyone's individual's needs/playstyle.
Put in more quarantine rotting sessions today .... Goddamn. The exploration in this game is insane, I've been to so many cool locales that I would have missed out if I didnt bother doing any sidequests (which are fukkin awesome btw srs) ... I dont know how reviewers are calling this "just another open world" - I play a ton of games and no other game in recent memory has made me want to explore every single inch of this map because every single area is beautiful and I just want to see what's there. Playing this game just makes the wait for God of War Ragnarok even harder - I have a feeling it'll get harsher reviews compared to the 2018 reboot, but if they refine the overall experience like they did with this game, then I'm gonna have an absolute blast.

^ yeah man I'm seeing how active GG are in the forums. Even from the first game I could tell how much the devs care about the game they made. For a new IP I could see the love they put into the characters and the world.
Compare that to fallout 4 which I recently played and ofc its a little older but the world never captivated me or made me WANT to explore. Found myself just following the mission paths and not straying.
I haven't seen a single machine fight and barely looked at the world in forbidden west because I don't like to be spoiled but I saw a few pieces and I'm already amazed at how much variation there is in regions now. Losing my mind waiting for this ps5. Will want to jump into it but I have uncharted 4 collection and HZD original to replay first.

Maybe they can make an fps shooter or a tps squad based shooter based on Horizon during the early parts of the lore when the machines were taking over and you're part of a last human squad - like Halo reach - something more very linear like gears of war and not open world. Might be a good palette cleanser before they drop us back into another amazing open world which will finish off the horizon trilogy.^ yeah man I'm seeing how active GG are in the forums. But also they should work on a new IP as well. They are becoming masters of their craft and have gotten the open world formula to a next level. It's time for them to start flexing hard for ps5.
I'm not sure how big their studio is, but I suspect for now they will now have a smaller team working on patches and future DLC's for Forbidden West while the big team works on the new game.

About 40 hours in ... There's quite a few annoying things that I can understand why this game didnt go over 90 metacritic.
- The upgrade system - It's far too resource heavy. I dont remember the previous game being like this, every single little things needs different kinds of resources to upgrade they require hunting wildlife - The annoying thing, some of these creatures are tiny as hell so you're definitely gonna miss them by running around half the time and the worst part is that you need to activate the constant focus mechanig to find them (which means you start walking instead of running and they dont get highlighted by the one button press which pings everything else) on top of that, you get a chitload of weapons so the game actually discourages you from upgrading your weapons because what's the point upgrading an uncommon item when you can instead wait and try to upgrade a rare or legendary weapon. The entire system is cumbersome and too resource heavy - It feels like RDR2 which I hated, although it's far easier in this game. Even machine overrides require upgrades now? the fuk why? wasnt like that in the previous game.
Not to mention they have this annoying animation everytime you need to pick up something which seriously hinders the flow of the game. For a game that requires you to constantly scavenge, pick up stuff, they should have gotten rid of animations because it just wastes time.
- Mounts are the absolute worst. I dont generally use mounts because I like exploring on foot, but the few times I did, it was a horrible experience. These are probably one of the worst mounted riding in recent memory. Just a lot of issues with pathfinding, controlling and there's not even a jump button lmao. Just feels extremely cumbersome.
- Machines are too far aggressive and if they knock you down, you go into this incredibly slow animation where you slowly get up and if another machine attacks you, then you can be stun locked in place. Happened a few times for me, but it's rare - The dodging also doesnt seem to you give you any i-frames which can be incredibly annoying because these machines jump at your way more than the previous game and "magnetically" just happen to hit you despite a perfect dodge. I actually turned down the difficulty to medium because it was far too annoying having to deal with more than two enemies. Medium is actually a nice balance of challenge and interest of time without it being overly unfair and cumbersome like it was on hard.
Other than, I'm still having a blast and absolutely loving this game and not even halfway through the main quest yet. I cant keep stop praising the sidequests in this game , the writing and locations they send you to is just as good as the mainquest.

I really dont get the complaints about looting or the upgrade system. Having to shoot off specific components makes the gameplay more interesting IMO. And i have so many components that its not hard to keep my gear upgraded. The few times ive needed a part i didnt have, you can just go buy it from the salvagers.
Game is a solide 9-9.5/10. Finding the story in this one much more engaging than HZD

The few times ive needed a part i didnt have, you can just go buy it from the salvagers.
Game is a solide 9-9.5/10. Finding the story in this one much more engaging than HZD

That's why I switched to easy loot. Now I can actually fight these machines properly without having to stress over the fact that I kill a machine and I dont get my required loot just because I didnt shoot a specific part. Lime my earlier post IIT, It's one of those things that are very catered to a player's playstyle and enjoyment of the game and I'm glad we get options on how we want to have the game cater to us thanks to the accessibility options.

Those of you playing it, so far is it vital to play hzd first? And the frozen wilds?
Sony is rolling out the exclusives all of a sudden eh.. I like what I see so far.

And yeah HZD is a must play because FW is a continuation of that story I think. It's a very deep and developed lore. And the first game sets the tone as to how the world world works and who are the main players. Fantastic story imo and only limited in certain areas that were improved in the sequel. Also the combat is buttery smooth and satisfying.
Frozen Wilds is probably the best DLC I ever played. It feels like a full game. Shorter than main story of course but this story is probably better. They also improved the graphics and facial animations, you'll definitely notice that bump in graphics when you enter the DLC area. Also monsters/boss monsters in the DLC are far more difficult and aggressive. And very intimidating with unique attacks. They really went all out for the DLC.
Must play imo.

Noped out after mirin the balls on guerrilla for adding this creature and bugged out quick after getting my resource and now I have to go back there to find the same resource in order to upgrade my pouch/weapon ... im not gonna make it.

Holy chit. Is this the game you guys are seeing? Wtf are these graphics. I've been avoiding looking at anything Horizon like the plague but stumbled on this by accident and it bent my mind. I think I'm gonna have to play this game on resolution mode brahs.
Again, wtf dude her face is sweating. Is this just a photo mode thing or does the game actually look like this?
