I feel like just having a souls game in a huge open world though, won't be enough to make the game super exciting for me. They would have to add things in regards to quest and story elements to make an open world feel fulfilling and engaging. At least for me. So I hope they were able to do that and I won't just spend most of the game just running around from dungeon to castle to dungeon fighting monsters.

The graphics aren't the best but some of the areas look pretty good imo. I'm enjoying the hell out of it. From puts more effort and care into their work than 90% of AAA devs these days. If you don't like their games then don't play them. Simple.

Even on the big sites, when you check out the critics they usually have a basic bio where they describe the kind of games they like. The kind of person who would review a game like Elden Ring is someone who is typically into From Software titles, because they would obviously be the person to give that to. You want someone who will have the interest and ability to get through the game, especially if you want your review to be out on time and relate to fans. The IGN reviewer is definitely their “hard games and souls like” guy.
That being said the game is a solid 9. Git gud pghts

That’s all a pretty big variety. So I’m definitely not saying you are wrong, but it probably depends on publication by publication. And While I’m sure there is definitely overlap between who reviews something and their personal tastes, I don’t think it’s usually to the extent like in my comment (racer guy, sport guy, Nintendo guy)

not sure they can do good graphics considering the drawdistances of everything

And I have found that souls fans are generally pretty helpful and friendly too newbies. And the “muh cult” comment makes no sense when you look how irs selling and been received. A “cult” type game is something like no more heroes.

I don’t have an issue with difficult games.
The way these games go about being “difficult” just looks incredibly dumb.
People are like 50 hours into the game and just beating the first big boss after dying like 276 times. Lmfao at calling that fun.
Just lmfao at playing a game that graphically wouldn’t have impressed anyone in 2012 that looks this god damn boring.

Took a while to click for me but when it did, I got hooked. I agree it's not everyone's cup of tea but I assure you many people actually love the gameplay and aren't just faking it to be part of the cult.
