I'm getting a slightly better financial deal than the renter, the renter has the better lifestyle deal when factoring maintenance and freedom to up and move.

Dork friend of a friend said "dude bro you should really buy a home, it's so much cheaper... what do you pay for rent?"

I told him my rent and it turns out he pays $500 more just for his mortgage on a POS house that he's constantly paying out of pocket to fix.

Always pay rent for the month ahead a few weeks before the 1st.

Saving for a house, rent is measly 600/month
Think too many people romanticize either direction. Yes, no $$ I have is going to principle however the money I save on taxes, lower housing payment, lack of repairs or upgrades etc can be invested into funds which will appreciate 5-10% per year....

I think theres pros and cons in either direction. Best part of owning a home, the one I wish I had, is ability to invest time and energy into improving something that is yours...

That was only one anecdotal experience anyway. My mortgage + escrow is cheaper than a very large percentage of apartments around here. Also, what happens once that one year lease is up?

The piece of the equation that most people fail to miss with this perspective is that typically its the renter that is paying off the landlord's note + cashflow (if property is not paid off)
As a landlord, i try to ensure none of my properties are "paid off". When they are, I do a cash out refi or find some other form of leverage in order create more opportunity.

The "more expensive" thing often times isn't true (unless you're renting with roomates, in the ghetto, or renting a closet like the guy a few posts above), and when you factor in that you're building equity in an asset that typically appreciates...

You don't think landlords factor property taxes and all of that into the amount they charge for rent? "Muh stocks", another rentcel trying to pretend to be a financial guru.

I'm glad I'm no longer renting. Paying a mortgage on a house and living in said house is 10000% better dead fkn srs.
