This is true. Also what happens when your nation is dependant on other nations to operate. Also a lot of these countries it's not supply as much as distribution which is a logistical matter. Even a small shortage becomes a huge one in not time flat and has a chain reaction.

agreed, it doesn't really hurt the govt as much but really what's the alternative to slapping on sanctions? nobody really directly wants to go to war with Russia, or war at all for that matter. people don't have an appetite for neocon warmongers anymore. especially since the failures of afghanistan/iraq and heavy criticism towards getting involved in the affairs/disputes of other countries and trying to play world police.

putin knows what would happen and he went in anyways. not sure what much you can do about that except broker some ceasefire and slap sanctions, but then this problem will rear its ugly head again. unless we want actual war with Russia, but nobody wants to fight and die for the peace of another country that they don't really have a hand or much business in. understandably so. a full on war would create more famine and economic collapse in certain places. also not to mention that innocent russians would end up getting killed who want nothing to do with the war. also we all know how well replacing dictators went, although this is not quite the same situation. absolutely sucks when you have crazies elected as leaders, nobody wins.
