Mirin. 2 years of Spanish here and 6 years of English; both required. Would have rather had 4 years of Spanish.

German. Great teacher (died recently, RIP) The class was more about German culture than learning the language. Loved it, srs

3 years of Spanish in Highschool and 1 year in college. I learned more Spanish in my first semester of college than all of highschool combined. Dat dere immersion when the TA barely knows English.

I can still read it okay and understand some conversations, but I wouldn't dare speak it -- I'm sure my pronunciation is horrible now.

4 years of spanish.

If I retained everything I would basically be fluent. But 1 hour a day isnt enough to retain it. I could read spanish newspapers and chit and even if I didnt know everythign it was saying I could get the jist of what the article is about. They also kind of taught us what was probably proper spanish of 1970s spain and not what latinos in the US are going to talk like.

Fun thing with learning languages is that sometimes you notice a word that is very similar to another language's corresponding word.

I'm old enough that I squeaked through right before they started requiring 2 years of language in HS, so I spent my electives elsewhere. In retrospect, I wish I had taken Spanish.

Learned Tuvaluan while I was living there after college. Pretty useless other than talking to my in-laws.

I took Latin for one year, but it was actual work and we needed two years of a foreign language to graduate. I already spoke fluent Spanish as I took Spanish from 5 years old until I was a teenager so I just dropped Latin and took Spanish I and II as a junior and senior. Since I already knew Spanish I just used the classes to sit in the back and talk to underclass girls who took spanish 1 and 2 their first 2 years.

Was easy pickings since I was pretty much the only guy in the class with a car.

couple years of french, couple years of spanish, started portuguese in uni but hbb prof wanted us to converse only in the language on day 1 no I was like lolno, switched to japanese because was minor weeb, wish I had just taken spanish the entire time because I remember ****all of any of them and focusing on one would probably leave me with at least a passing competency.

Well, Portuguese and Spanish are similar languages. Most of Portuguese speakers understand Spanish (the opposite is true if Portuguese speakers speak slow... otherwise Spanish speakers can't understand ****).

Example: If you know Spanish, you gonna understand a lot of what I write in Portuguese, but you would have problems understanding If I am speaking (especially if European/Portugal Portuguese and not Brazilian Portuguese). See below:

*random video*

Check if you can understand. Probably not... but if I wrote what they are saying, you would understand a lot. (Thats European Portuguese, btw)

This is Brazilian Portuguese (exact same words but different "accent"...almost sounds like a different language, to the point Brazilians sometimes find it hard to understand European Portuguese):
