Theres no sporting event that even comes close to the World Cup srs and this is from an NFL and NBA fan.
Literally no sporting event or entertainment can bring a nation together like the WC.

true, there's a lot more emotion involved
I like watching NFL and NBA too during playoffs, but it doesn't come near the highs and lows of a big knockout tourney like in football
another big thing I think that contributes to that is the way it's ingrained in culture in a lot of football countries and the way that leagues are set up with teams actually able to be relegated to a lower league and teams from lower leagues able to promote, all that brings so much extra emotion and attachment into the game from fans, the rivalry, the comradery
like how everyone plays as a kid wanting to become the next superstar yet only so few actually make it to a professional level
the rawness of the emotions, the simplicity of the game yet insane conditioning and skill needed to compete at the highest level, it's just a perfect mix

Adverts breaks every 2 minutes absolutely ruin the viewing enjoyment of American football.
“Steroids is now just a word that the lazy and ignorant use to describe any guy that has more muscle and dedication than them”– Mike O'Hearn
"I am like getting the feeling of cumming in the gym; I'm getting the feeling of cumming at home; I'm getting the feeling of cumming backstage; when I pump up, when I pose out in front of 5000 people I get the same feeling, so I am cumming day and night. It's terrific, right? So you know, I am in heaven."

my friend plays like semi-pro? Division 1 and even he says football can be boring to watch most of the time. Think he prefers to watch bball cos there's always something happening. The only people that will appreciate boring 90 minute slogs are people who understand the game. It's like boxing, most matches are soooo fkin boring to the untrained eye.
fictional account.

You get 90 seconds of pure elation off that 1 hard earned goal all game
It’s true a single basket made in bball doesn’t have the same eruption, but you do have teams going on 10-0 runs that complete switch momentum in a game. The crowd erupts in similar elation during those stretches
The best part is that they happen more often. So you might get 1 or 2 90seconds of elation watching soccer. Meanwhile American sports give you at least 5-6 hype moments per game, regardless of the sport
Not to mention you’re far more likely to see outcomes change in favor of the team down in the closing minutes when scoring is more plentiful.
There’s no greater elation when your team is on the verge of losing but pulls it out in the last few minutes or seconds.
The fact scoring in soccer is rare means there’s fewer instances where you’ll see a team down late turn the tides to end up winning. And no, it’s not more powerful when it happens because of it. Trust me the joy of a comeback in the final moments is equally as satisfactory if it happens only once an entire season or happens consecutively every night for a week straight.
In the moment your team is still down and it doesn’t matter that they were down the night before and came back. It’s independent of last nights game. So you enjoy it just as much the second comeback.
But the number of comebacks pales in soccer but scoring is so desolate

"One day I won't be able to lift any more. Not I won't want to lift. I mean physically unable. That day could be decades from now or it could be tomorrow. All I know is that's the day I'll wish I could lift more than ever. The day I'd give anything for one more workout, one more set, or one more cardio session. So go hard and enjoy every workout, every set, every rep. Because one day you will wake up and you will never get it back."

Referees in American sports have too much control and change the games with ridiculous calls. Soccer is much more flowing and has less referee interference that causes huge swings in the game
brb pass interference - place ball at that location of foul just lol
brb roughing the passer - 10 yards, automatic 1st down
brb every drive for a layup results in and and-1
