I blame weeb culture. The fat incel **** with an anime pillow that uses words like "senpai" has given the genre a bad name.

Most people call it cartoons, but wouldn't be able to stomach some of the older stuff like Kite or Wicked City.

There are so many good classics out there that do not feel like they are for kids at all:

Ninja Scroll
Vampire Hunter D
Demon City Shinjuku
Perfect Blue
Golden Boy
Golgo 13

I could never get into anime. I have friends that are really into it, and I've tried to get into it, but I think it's a cultural barrier for me. There's just something that always feels off watching it. The characters and storyline are always weird in some subtle way.

Watched it as a kid back in the 80's...Star Blazers, Akira, Force Five, and a few others. I also watched WWF wrestling back then too. Either I outgrew it or they both turned to low-IQ dog chit mid-90's. I don't watch or care about either of those things any more.
