Thanks mayne. My kiddo is still like 2 feet tall and its his favorite to bring 4-5 books over to me while I'm sitting in the living room and plop himself on my lap and look at the pages. I'm trying to cherish the fact that its only so long he will enjoy coming and sitting on my lap and letting me hold the book as he flips pages. I go back and forth between loving this and being envious of my single friends still skiing every day they have off, going to the bars on the weekends, and playing video games every night after work.

My kiddo was like this around month 4. 5% weight and 10% height. How is your kiddo in terms of height percentile? How does he/she eat? No joke for awhile when my kid was a little over a year he was eating almost 2,000 calories a day no shyt. 4 6-8 oz bottles, a banana + waffle at breakfast, a whole pb&j for lunch + fruitcup, a greek yogurt for snack + a nutrigrain bar, and a whole dam microwave mac n cheese for dinner lmfao. At 12 months he was only 40ish percentile for both.

Hopefully its just a stage and they start gaining weight again. If they just started walking/running around more that can definitely have a big impact. Whole milk really helped with weight gain as did greek yogurt and protein pancakes srs. I've been bulking my kid since 6 months.

Although I started this thread, let me preface what I'm about to say with this,

I am no super perfect dad or husband. I'm flawed like everyone. But I have a 14 year old adopted son, my daughter is 2 and my son is 8 months and we found out yesterday we have another on the way, so I've been around the block.

My wife and I have learned a very hard but valuable lesson . Yes, in MY OPINION, your life should revolve around the kids. Sacrifices are due in order to be a really kick ass parent. In today's world so many of us, me included, blame these younger generations for being fukheads but a lot of that is because of a lack of parenting. Sticking your kid in front of a TV screen for 18 years and letting media networks raise them.

Being intentional with your time, effort, and love will pay dividend not only for you and your child, but for society.

With that said, the lesson mrs. MOTi and I have learned is that you STILL NEED TO TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF. if our brother Jandels is superdad, and always kid kid kid, but never does anything for himself, then he's ice skating uphill. Because he'll be miserable. Your life doesn't need to end when having a kid or multiple kids, actually the opposite. Still go on dates with the misses. Watch your football, play your Nintendo when the kids are asleep sometimes. Remember to still take care of yourself and your significant other.

Don't let your kids cause you to resent yourself, your life, or your wife.

Thanks man.

Our second will be here in June and my wife are wondering if we should have the doc tie her tubes when he's born (c-section is an almost certainty). She's not willing to ever go back on birth control and I don't blame her at all. I'm a little uneasy giving up our ability to have kids, but our first is hitting his terrible twos and is a total handful right now. I definitely see how you feel about your life being over in a way due to having kids. I think it's normal to never feel "ready," it just happens when it happens.

You definitely don't need to give up your passions though. If you can, find a babysitter that can take the kids for a weekend at a time so you and the wife can get ski trips or whatever in. Beyond that, try to include the kids in as much as you can. If you like to take a boat out, then take your kids to the pool often and teach them to swim, and swim well. As they get older you can be that dad who takes his kids tubing behind the boat. Same thing goes for skiing. Get the kids interested in the things you love so that you can share the experience with them.

My son is 21 months old and copies everything I do. He fuking LOVES any kind of yard work because he's seen me doing it. I can't keep him away from the garden hose or the leafblower whenever he sees them. He'll go and pick it up and start waving it around going "pshh pshh pshh." He's even figured out how to turn the water on now, so I'm in trouble. I just try to let him do as much as he can and help me out. If the grass needs to be watered I'll let him do as much as he can, etc.

Last summer we were moving water a ton getting new grass up. My then 5-year-old would always come out to "help" me move sprinklers. His favorite thing was turning the water on just as soon as I put down the sprinkler and watching me run.

I'll second what all the other guys have been saying regarding time for your hobbies. Interests and usage of time changes, but you can still fit in some fun. Admittedly it is hard when you have a bunch of really young ones. My oldest is a good backpacking partner for me now. I started taking him when he was 7 or 8. This year I'm hoping to get the three oldest into the Frank Church Wilderness with me for some backpacking and fishing.

Well said. I’d just like to add and emphasize to make sure you still do interesting things with the wife. Don’t forget random dates, random little gifts (doesn’t have to be expensive, help her out with whatever she had going on. It’s very easy to forget to do those things when there are toddlers in the picture. It’s hard work, I get it but don’t forget about each other because it’s easy to grow apart.

Congrats man! Agreed with that post too. Just found out like a 2 weeks ago we have another coming, we wanted 3-4. Only took 1 month too of trying, was hoping to have a little more fun than that. So now I have a 5 year old daughter, 3 year old daughter, 1 year old son, and we agreed we won't find out the sex of this one. Sounds kind of fun not knowing till the day.

We just closed on a new house 5 bedroom can be 6 as of course we ran out of room in our current house. We close in 9 days so were pretty excited. Will be getting snipped though as I don't want more than 4 kids.

Can't complain though, life has been good to us, were financially doing great. My oldest loves her gymnastic class and after she does something she will look at me through the window with a big smile and thumbs up me which I reciprocate back.

This is where you need to have a serious discussion with your woman. I, personally, am selfish so I know for many years I wanted just 1 kid. Yes, I do have more kids, but they're my stepkids and they are older where I didn't have to worry about diapers and feeding them. They were at the age where they could do these things for themselves. My 6 yr old daughter does require a lot of my time, but I talk to her like an adult. I tell her we can play or do something fun from this time to that time, and then Daddy has to do some house work/hobbies/studying or whatever. She understands that and we are in a great place. It works out for us. I know I could never do this if we had more kids.

The doc kept telling my wife and I our daughter was underweight and short for years. Of course, my wife was concerned, but I told my wife all babies are different. They don't always follow the standard growth pattern. Years later, our daughter is tall af. I'm 5'9" and my wife is 5'2". My daughter is already half the size of my wife and looks to be on pace to surpass her during her middle school years. We're hoping she grows to around 5'4" - 5'6".

Just keep feeding your baby good food and focus on being great parents. It'll all work out.

We did a little family vacation to Moab last week over spring break. Most of our time was in Arches National Park; we did several hikes. Any of you dads getting out for some spring break getaways? It's always a challenge for us to find something that makes everyone happy, my kids range from 3 to 15. This one turned out great, but I think my 6-year-old and 10-year-old had the most fun.

Corona Arch:

Native rock art that we found off the beaten path:

My 3-year-old and me getting some quality time:

She did great but couldn't keep up with everyone else on the longer hikes. When she started slowing down, she got a lift from me. She rode for a bunch of miles on my shoulders. On the Devil's Garden loop there is a stretch where you hike on a raised-up rock formation for some distance. I motored through it with her on my shoulders and got ahead of the pack. After I climbed down off the rocks I stopped and put her down so she could play in the sand and then I took pictures of some of the family as they were getting to the end of the rock. Well, she sees me taking pictures and decides to photobomb with a silly face. The funny thing is, I didn't know she had done it until I went back looking through pictures.

Becoming a dad in June, just wondering how you guys deal with hormonal changes, if any, with your wives? The "fomo" of not being able to drink and smoke catch up?

Thanks

Mirin all of this bro, these are the kind of trips they will remember for a long time, and when they get older they will want to show their children.

I have carried many children on my shoulders/back over rough terrain, they look small but get heavy very fast, lol.

Nice!

Congrats! Welcome to the dad crew. Little bump to get a few more eyes on your question. Might even get some perspective from one of the ladies, too. I didn't notice much difference in my wife through pregnancy. Emotions a bit more on the surface maybe. I just tried to be her rock in those cases. There was one pregnancy where her sex drive was definitely up through the middle months, but no husband needs any guidance working through that. Neither of us drink so I'm no help there. Lots of good dads here though and someone probably has some advice.

Congrats my dude!.

No fomo. In my opinion if you're to be a good dad, you'll be too busy for fomo

My son, first child was born on 4-1-22. We were trying hard to get him out before Aprils Fools but he was stubborn as hell.

Him and mom are doing very well. Pretty chill so far. My wife is breast feeding so my life hasn't been altered much at all. I still get my 8 hours a sleep a night ha ha.

Pretty crazy **** but amazing at the same time.

Congrats! Glad to hear everything is going well.

Doesn't work for everyone but breast feeding is great when it works. You get to sleep, no mixing or washing bottles, easier to lose weight, etc. Glad to hear that's going well, too.

Watching basketball with two of my boys.

They are just getting to where they really enjoy watching basketball. Most games I don't care who wins, the boy to my left (#3 child) always has to pick a team to cheer for. I have some fun memories watching ball games with my dad. The pistons/lakers finals and Bulls/Lakers finals are some of my early sports watching memories. Looking at that picture I realized that's a lot of "forehead" visible from the rear on me. The good news is my hair has already fulfilled is biological function.

Found myself driving near Randolph AFB earlier today and all of the sudden the USAF Thunderbirds came out of nowhere and passed right in front of us, less than 1000 feet off the ground. I put the windows down and opened the sunroof and got to see them make another few passes doing different formations as we drove past the base while my almost-two-year-old in his car seat kept saying "whoaaaaaaa!"

Turns out theGreat Texas Airshowis this weekend so I guess we got to see the Thunderbirds doing their practice run. I'll definitely be taking my son over to see the show on Sunday.
And relief washes over me in an awesome wave

Thats so cool. I remember seeing the Blue Angles as a kid, it was awesome.

I've never taken mine to an airshow but the other year we had a spit fire flying around here. It was so small and agile we thought it was a model plane at first. Then it hit the gas and took off, me and the boys were mirin.

Hutrapper has trouble with them, too. Is it a mobile vs. pc thing I wonder?

My hosting is through imgur. Can you see other imgur photos that people post? I know some people can see my pictures. Let me know and I'll try to get things sorted. I'm all ears if anyone else has advice. I've successfully attached images in the past but failed just barely. hmmm.

I realized later that I saw the thunderbirds at my first air show with my dad at Andrews AFB like 25 years ago. I lost my dad last thanksgiving, so it makes doing things with my son that he did with me feel even more special. I’m looking forward to the airshow

Misc dads,

My daughter was born this morning, full term at 38 weeks weighing 6lbs 5oz. She gained 3 lbs in last 6 weeks. Healthy with Apgars of 9,9, and 10. It was a stressful pregnancy but she’s beautiful and healthy. Thank the good lord for all the blessings. That makes it 3 kids under 2 and I love it.

Congrats! Glad to hear all are doing well. I've done the stressful pregnancy thing and it's such a relief when it's over and everyone is healthy.
