I’ve considered switching to one since the movement seems like less wear and tear on the body than regular DLs. But I think I’ll just eventually stop dling altogether if it gets to where they bother me that much.
Lifts:
Squat: 460x1
Bench: 400x1
Deadlift: 575x1
OHP: 250x2
Weight: 180 lbs.

Don't have heroes; look up to no one. Because as long as someone's leading the way, the best you'll ever be is second.

I’ll take a perm when you do reps with 525 lbs on a conventional deadlift with a spoon in your mouth, sure

Edit: plus 315 bench for reps and 405 squat for reps

Rippetoe's body is completely broken from being a simpleton that thinks bench, squat, and deadlift are the totality of human movement.

The body needs a lot more variety if it is going to truly thrive.

I don’t deadlift anymore because of disc injury, I already said

I’ll do the squat and bench no problem

Deal?

Or I’ll do trap bar deadlifts with that weight for 10 reps to make up for it

He's just a powerlifting based strength minded guy. He can't fathom another piece of equipment working for strength other than powerlifting specific (i.e the barbell) equipment.

The trap bar is an amazing piece of equipment for strength training. In your basic gym, how else can someone perform heavy farmer carries? Dumbbells that only go up to 100 or 120lbs? I also used it for power shrugs. For anyone with any back issues or wanting to put the load of weight through the midline of the body vs. the lower back, this is the key piece of equipment for that. But Rippetoe doesn't do any dynamic movements in any capacity so the thought of walking around with 405lbs for time or distance makes him shiver.

I'm glad I got out of the mindset of numbers and exercises being based around only the squat/bench/deadlift. What an absolute waste of potential unless you're specifically a competitive powerlifter.

are you doing high reps? I do a single set of 50 at then end of every upper body day and they blew up my upper traps from nothing to my friends have made comments you can see them under my shirts. Paul Carter recommends a single set of 100 with a 45lb plate or KB

1. Read anything he's written and you can tell just from the writing that he's a very intelligent and competent person. Everything he advocates, he has thought through thoroughly and it's backed up by decades of real world trial and error. He is a true expert on training. You might not agree with everything Rippetoe says but if you don't agree with 90%, you're just stupid and wrong, that last 10% is the room for debate.

2. That before and after fat guy is actually a good example of peak natty training. When juiceheads try to say juice doesn't help and it's all about training hard and smart, refer to Rippetoe's pupil. That's the result when you train hard and smart without juice.

3. Bloating may not be your goal but you can't say bloating is wrong. That's because bloating is the only way to get stronger as a natty after a certain point. "Lean bulking" is spinning your wheels and wasting time. To use pupils again, Jeff Cavalier made his cameraman a pupil, sure he didn't gain any fat but he also topped out at a 300lb deadlift. Jeff himself is on juice and can't even deadlift 500lbs. Surely it would be better to bloat, then lose the fat later, that way you actually make progress yes?
He's got a lot of great content, but staying on the program too long or attempting it while not bulking or being fat is a fool's errand. Once you start to grind I think switching to something like Hanley's Montana Method is a good next step. You could also do the BB Medicine stuff. They were SS guys who tweaked the programming based on their experiences.

I dropped deadlifts a while ago. A lot of people around me getting injured from them. It was too much risk for not much reward for a casual weight lifter

20 reps of 3 sets

Do you stop the raise/plate in front of your face or go even lower, before going all up again?

Also, do you sort of "upward shrug" the plate once you reach on the top, or just go go, then down?

I love doing them, but I feel the same way. If you mess up a heavy DL it's a one way ticket to snap city. Plus the rest of my pull day is garbage after doing them.

I do high pulls with a thick band. Just the top part of the movement. From mid stomach up.

3x10

I’m seeing upper trap growth from these.
