In general, people don't really learn work ethic when they live in a place where they could easily sleep outside every night and eat fruit from trees to survive.

A good comparison of this is the cities of Rio and Sao Paulo in Brazil. In Rio, people don't do chit. Just going to the beach, bumming out. Plenty of poor people make money selling things. In Sao Paulo, there's no beach and it rains every day. There's literally nothing better to do than finding a job and working.

I can see that perspective but i think its pretty "lazy" to cast such a wide net as well. My father's side is all on Oahu. I really think "lazy" is all relative so it would serve the conversation better to give context into what you are talking about. When I come from the mainland to the islands to visit, there is definitely a much slower pace. But there is also a slower pace when I go from Texas to New Yok.

Do some of the people have animosity towards the "white man"? 100% yes.....I see and feel it. Does it serve them well? No......they cant change what has happened so they need to keep it moving forward. I have met some Hawaiians with incredible work ethic and heart. So its just tough when you cast that net and call all of them "lazy".

Wasn't the most popular decision back in the day to let Hawaii become a state. Wasn't even really popular there either. There was a time where people felt the point of the US was to expand and take on more states. Cuba, Porto Rico, Phillipines, even Japan itself there was a goal of making them states of the US.

Im half puerto rican and am 110% behind making puerto rico into a state. I was born here, but my mom was born there. Lots of folks dont know this, but Puerto Ricans are american citizens.

It's not all but it's a large percentage. Yes there are some really great hardworking individuals. But it's not like the mainland. It's hard to even teach people in their jobs because they just don't have ambitions of working. It's just put in my time with as little effort as I can. Get away with.
