Did the Costco thing....I think it's a scam to get people to buy more to justify their "membership" and because everything is so "cheap." Maybe there is more value per dollar, but for some reason those big ass carts seem to get filled so quickly and end up spending more per week. Fuk that.

Ground Turkey and Pork is dirt cheap in my neck of the woods. I buy beef patties in bulk and my shopping costs have went down quite a bit.

Still sucks with the prices though. Can't even buy some of my favorite single meals anymore since they're over 7 bucks.

Costco is cheaper than everyday prices at regular grocery stores, but it is not cheaper than normal sale prices. It only makes sense out of convenience for people with large families, who have the space to plan ahead and store large quantities. They do have a few specific loss leaders that are cheaper, but in general I find they are overrated.

If I avoid the term 'healthy' and instead make the distinction between fresh food and processed food or prepared meals. Fresh food is usually cheaper than processed food, with some exceptions. In terms of produce, you're limited to eating what is on sale that week or cheap in season. Dairy will always be expensive in Canada due to the dairy cartels. In terms of protein and calories, ground beef and certain cuts of pork are usually the cheapest fresh meats.

You have to use apps like Flipp and be organized with your shopping and meals. If you have the space have a freezer so that you can load up on meat when you come across a great deal. Sometimes stores mark down specific meat that they have too much of.

It's all relative though, the cost of food has gone way up. There is no stopping it. We're all going to be eating bugs soon.
Interesting points, I can agree with most except the last bit. If we ever get to that point I'm moving my family out to some land and we'll raise/grow our own food. Bugs can be useful food however, for other food like fish and chickens.

Regarding "healthy" as a term, I'll let the nit pickers argue those points. But you're right, even leafy greens, broccoli, and other plant foods have antinutrients like oxylates. To dismiss food groups, even evil wheat these days, ignores human history and our ability to process food outside of our gut to make something edible.

Got 9 lbs of pork butt ($1.84/lb) and 10 lbs of chicken quarters ($0.79/lb) in the freezer. Ground beef should be getting cheaper soon, so will double up when 80% or 90% goes on sale and save more down the line later.

Nothing in your cart is grass fed, organic, or pasture raised so unless you have your own farm, it will cost a good amount of change for better quality of food. I don't think you have bragging rights when you buy cheap processed, high fructose syrup, GMO garbage. I don't even trust organic from grocery stores.

I wouldn't eat that stuff let alone give that stuff to children.

I'll preface the thread better next time. Yes, starting from zero, this would not feed a family of four. I'm used to shopping deals and grabbing things that last to hold me over a few weeks/months for the next time I get them. Brb not buying pasta, rice, spices, frozen stuff every week. As you can see I got 3 lbs of bacon and a pound of sausage-we don't even eat that regularly I got it because it was on sale and if I didn't I'd have got a big ass thing of meat instead. Since bacon was on sale I got that and am going to pull from my extra meat in the freezer that I also got on sale when I doubled up some weeks ago. I mean when shopping for a family, this is normal, no? Stock up when stuff's cheap, pass on crap you don't need later because you stocked up and get something else?

Yes I'm sure because someone didn't slap "pussy meat for pussies" on the labeling that made everyone fat

There's literally no such thing as "organic"; anything that's been touched by man is labeled processed, that includes all meats

Types of food don't make you fat, eating too much food does

Do it brah, good prices there. I get my meats there, nice carne asada steak maybe around 1.5lbs for about $6-7 total.

I like their premade chicken strips and general tso chicken.

Plus what I notice to is that most other products tend to be cheaper even compared to dollar tree prices.

Also, there's food at home and in the fridge from the previous week, you guys shop when your fridge is completely empty? I stock up on chit when cheap. Example-pasta and rice lasts forever. Got a few apples and pears from the previous week. I'm stocked up right now, but even if I had to get more I can keep it to less than $100 a week. Add peanut butter, bread, more milk, pasta, taters, whatever and spread it out....still not going over $120 a week.

I've cut out most junk right now as I'm a bit tight on $$$ right now and chit adds up quick. If I were to grab soda, gold fish crackers, candy, and chips can add an unnecessary $20-30 a week. Fuk that.
No offence but it's kinda misleading to label the op as a weeks worth of groceries when it's really just you stocking up since you self admittedly aren't eating only the things in grocery kart for the next week.

Does everybody go shopping when their kitchen is absolutely bare? Lol. I think we can establish once there's a "base line" one can maintain that without having to "count" it. Brb I spend $100 a week on groceries for 5 years but that doesn't really count because I started with $59 worth of chit that I constantly replenish every week. I mean, yeah I got pasta from 3 weeks ago that isn't counted today but is a part of my stock, that cheating???

Spend $20 on bacon, wonder why food is so expensive.

The solution is simple. Dont buy bacon. Buy something else.

Chicken drumsticks are practically free they are like $6 for a gigantic pack of them. Rice is also super cheap. $2 for a big bag that you can eat every day for weeks,

Add veggies which are also cheap and you have some great meal combos.

Example. Cook chicken legs. Now you can have them straight up with rice and veggies as a dise.

You can next have them stir fried like fried rice with veggis. Of course take the meat off the bone.

next I will make suchi out of them. I dont like raw crappy stuff they call sushi, I put cole slaw and bbq chicken in mine with rice, roll it up, bam, bq chicken sushi.

Chicken salad. The list is endless with just cheap drumsticks.

Now, do the same thing with other affordable meats and you will be eating great and cheap.

I live alone but that's the exact amount I spent at Sam's Club. Got chicken breats, steaks, faijtas, bell peppers, tomatoes, onions, bananas, milk, eggs, frozen fruits, rice and some other stuff 3 weeks ago. Haven't ran through half of that.

i just order on amazon. even with inflation, they are still cheaper than most markets and i get 6% cashback.

used to buy costco but the portions are too huge for 2 people and most food goes bad before its consumed.
i find grocery shopping a waste of time and online delivery has been a blessing.

they also have aldi/lidl but their in-house brands are pretty poor quality..
