Well the serenity prayer comes to mind (especially since I hear it all the time lol). It doesn’t really matter what we think might happen; it’s going to happen regardless. Whether you believe in God, no God, reincarnation, etc, I think a good principle to live by is to be kind and helpful to others. You don’t need religion to do that. And we all make mistakes and we can’t go back and change the past. But we can continue to continue learning and growing.
I am a strong advocate for mindfulness which keeps us in the here and now. Don’t get me wrong, it’s good to look back and it’s good to look forward, but you can’t be stuck in either of those for two long. Lead a life that you find enjoyable and enriching.

Everyone is on their own personal journey through life and you are on yours as well, help others on their journey, share stories along the way of your adventures, and just keep enjoying it.
But theres a lot of lies and snakes and manipulators out there and i fear that religion is all based in lies and manipulation created by men and progressing as humans will eventually mean "moving on" to another phase beyond religion

what if you get dementia before you die? can't recall memories etc
how would this affect an afterlife if its possible?
maybe after life is literally rewinding back to a better time that you've already witnessed

explain dementia and what happens to demented people?
Why is their consciousness scrambled for 5-10 years before death and how does it become unscrambled for them to live on in another being? you ever met a cat or a grasshopper that gave off vibes that it used to be Albert Einstein lol?
People will cope the most low IQ **** with death and reincarnation is just another one unless you mean particles breaking apart and reassembling like i said.

I have no idea if there's a god...heaven...hell...nothing...
I just try my best to be a generally good person. I figure if there is a God and me just trying to be the best me I can be isn't good enough for me to enter heaven, well...I guess that's that.
Mostly I think when we die, that's just it. I mean...thinking about it all purely from a scientific standpoint, we're really pretty unimportant specs of life in the grand scheme of things. It makes the most sense to me that it's just like when you go to sleep except no dream.
I really don't want to think reincarnation is a thing. I mean, when you think about poverty on earth, etc, the likelihood of being reborn into someone who was fortunate to grow up with a loving family, food on the table, roof over my head, etc is probably pretty low to happen twice in a row.
And on that same note, it's also depressing as fk to think there's nothing after this. I mean, to live a life of suffering from basically start to finish like some people do, only to die and that be just...it...is pretty sad. I mean damn, in that case I guess for them, dying is literally the best part of their life.

You'll probably just go on living as every other being in the universe, like you do now...one at a time, until it's all blown out.
Then, who knows? You might end up doing it all over again forever in whatever shape this universe takes next.
In any case, it's nothing you have to worry about. 'You', will die...and that will be that. What you truly are will go on existing in all kinds of other forms that has no bearing on your present life beyond your concern for the future state of your family, country, and the world in general.
Focus on your life, not your death. That will take care of itself and you needn't worry.

I just don’t see how we can come from nothing, exist, and then go back to nothing
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conservation_of_mass
The laws of physics contradict this theory. To suggest that we go back to nothing when we die suggests matter is being destroyed. Is consciousness not a form of matter? People who die have been found to weigh 21 grams less on death.
Before we are human, we are sperm. Before we are sperm, we are protein. It’s once we go back further than that that the grey area lies.
I suspect we get recycled into the Universe and come out somewhere else

I am terrified by the possibility of reincarnation. My life is far from great, but it could be so much worse. Obviously, I wouldn’t know any better, but the idea of just taking another ride of this chit as someone completely different sounds horrifying.

But within that is your finite existence and consciousness as a singular being. When the light goes out your timespan as the being you are now is over and you will NEVER have a thought again because your brain is dead and there are no longer electrical impulses/energy fueling thought.
Another way to look at it is we are made up of say(its WAY more than this obv) 1000 particles. Those 1000 particles were all seperated once into 1000 different singular particles. Through time and randomness of chaos those 1000 particles have assimilated to 2 units or ultimately into 1 unit(your body). Over time you will branch off into more and more particles until eventually you scatter into the universe back into 100000000000000 different particles all over the place. But particles are also fluid so this is an extremely simplified explanation. But throughout life you would undergo a countless number of transfers of particles.
Our existence is like a sand sculpture that is formed and destroyed and washed away back into the ocean, never to be the same structure again but maybe in 10000000 years it will become a different sand structure but comprised of totally different particles of sand.

This is what happens after you die.
You face god, and he weighs your good deeds vs your bad deeds. If your good outweighs your bad, you are allowed to reincarnate with added good karma if you want, otherwise you can assend to paradise, where you can chill until you're ready to move on.
If your bad outweighs the good, you're forced to move on.
Moving on means your soul is unmade and returned to the ether, where your essence will merge with others to create a new original soul.

When it comes your time to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with the fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song and die like a hero going home.

neat to think about but so far from reality it doesnt bear much consideration as a REAL possibility TBH
when i was a child and believed things I was told at face value, aka "faith" aka "believe what I tell you and dont ask questions" it made sense, but when i advanced my critical thinking and logic abilities I realized it makes no sense at all.
I also learned that 100% of the time the people who say "believe what I tell you and dont ask questions" do so because they are either wrong or bad people and being manipulative. I havnt met 1 person who wasnt. So organized religion especially Christianity doesnt sit well with me.
The whole thing just seems like its parents telling their children to just listen to them and their experience and do what they tell you. But I grew up and realized my parents didnt know best, they only preached based on their perceptions, which is what religion is, mans perceptions of the things he doesnt understand. (the more you understand the less religion makes sense, and eventually fades away, those who it doesnt fade away never learn or stay willingly ignorant to facts presented to them)

I've struggle with this too OP. Gift of childhood indoctrination.
Re: reality I've listened to non-spiritual/religious people speak on how limited human perceptions are relative to what we can sense using machines and instruments. One theorizes that it would be maladaptive for humans to clearly perceive the full and true nature of reality as we only NEED to perceive the specific information that allows us to stay alive and procreate. So in short if we all sat around blissed out on psychedelics communing with the universe then we might all just starve or be eaten and likely wouldn't be successful at parenting.
When I was younger I had the sense that I existed someplace else before here...maybe just fetus things. When my daughter was a toddler she once said "next time I'll be the mama".
And when I was going through my recent divorce I toyed with the idea of changing my name. The name I was going to use as a new first name was my paternal grandmother's middle name.
After my mom died and I went through her collected papers [6 filing cabinet drawers] I found some letters which were written between my mother's father and one of his brothers.
In one of the letters the brother recounted the tragic death of a younger sibling of theirs who had been run over and killed when playing while they were all walking somewhere.
Same name.
Serious.

paradise / hell moral scenario : not bad, depending what you did during your life.
waking up from the simulation / game : I suppose boredom is so high that you would choose to play again (would make sense since we decided to play in the first place)
lot of others.
eternal nothingness (low probability) : a blessing.

We know nothing. The fact that this reality exist and we are here now is enough to at least make an afterlife possible. Reality is some weird chit, if we didn’t know anything about human experience/the universe at all (and what we do know isn’t really a drop in the bucket) then this all would sound magical/fairy tale. It’s like completely omitting consciousness at all when questioning if it’s possible when people are so sure nothing happens.
So in short if we all sat around blissed out on psychedelics communing with the universe then we might all just starve or be eaten and likely wouldn't be successful at parenting.

explain dementia and what happens to demented people?
Why is their consciousness scrambled for 5-10 years before death and how does it become unscrambled for them to live on in another being?

Same name.
