Starfield release date was announced so far in advance and it still can't hit the date and just pushed back.
What is the point of release dates anymore? I swear every big game gets at least one delay and this was happening even before covid. Why cant they just wait until they are 100% sure and announce the date a few months ahead? Stop with this bs, I no longer believe any release date unless they announce the date they give is within a few months away

Who would be using "COVID" as an excuse for anything?
I swear they just killed all the clever/worthwhile people and then they just tell the general public "COVID".
Like wtf

I think they talk about a release date to generate hype and please investors. It's easier to hype up a large crowd and then sneakily delay release days later on than to just keep saying "coming out whenever it's done"

With both Starfield and Redfall being pushed, this could lose Xbox the generation. I don't think they have any big releases slated for the year anymore.

A date in itself doesn't generate hype, use the actual game to do that.
Release dates are simply an outdated concept from when games were way easier to make. It is a complete joke now and has to go.

However, if they don't finish on time they can delay it. Does this make fans and investors happy? No.... But it's still better than the alternative of saying "hey guys here's a game we're making, don't know when it will be done, maybe somewhere within the next 2-7 years hehe but please be excited for and invest in it, k cya when we cya"

release dates aren't for the gamers.
its for the big player shareholders. they want to see progress, they want to see dates, they want to see releases so their money goes up.
Cyberpunk's pushed to release was a move to please shareholders who starting growing angry when the game needed at minimum 2 more years for all the features they said would be in the game, so they released it and shareholders lost like 20-30% anyway because it was trash at launch.
if anything was about the gamer, they wouldn't be releasing half baked games with multi gig patches on release day + 25% to 50% content missing from the game with the promise of it being released later.

They didn't need to say a release date or year to get hype. They just needed to show the game.
For investors is no benefit either. It will only cause them to not believe things you say going forward.
Also any investor in Sony should understand the game business and not be hung up on specific dates anyway. Maybe a very loose calendar at best as long as you know what is in the pipeline

Especially cod is a dumb example, that is literally the best selling game every year. You think it has to do with announcing a fake release date.
You're a complete moron

But even if you aren't and you just don't know, you must realise that devs have a reason they do it. There's no Jesus of videogames nor some established tradition that compels them to. This also applies to movies btw.
Even though I'm right I'll still agree to disagree with you because this is so obvious that it's just a boring convo to have.

All i'm saying is dont announce a date until you know the game is ready.
you know my most anticpated game? Final fantasy 16. They gave us a trailer and I liked it. They didnt need to keep naming dates and delaying it.
The funny thing about starfield is they havent shown us chit yet. All they have done is give a release date way ahead of time and they couldnt even hit it. just lol.

Well look at what happened to Advance Wars 1&2 reboot on the Switch.
It was supposed to come out last year... no delated until April of 2022... no that's now indefinitely delayed due to Putin invading Ukraine for some reason.

2007 was the last time MS had a good game lineup. Since it's literally only been Forza, Gears, and Halo. Pathetic srs.

One thing I'm extremely worried about is the size and scope of this game, knowing Bethesda it will be big and MS mandates that all games to everything under their eco-system IIRC, so how tf is a game like this gonna scale to Xbox one which is pretty much a potato at this point? unless i'm completely wrong and this is current gen only ... But one can imagine the monkey's at Bethesda banging their heads on the wall trying to get a game like this working on it.

The perception of delays is definitely going to be higher these days because of the adjustment to the pandemic, but I also could imagine that we'd still be seeing missed deadlines due to all around game complexity, mismanagement, and internal conflicts with developers/publishers. All of that in the wake of Cyberpunk's notorious release, which has probably shook everyone from devs to board members worried about being the next Cyberpunk if they don't delay.
Incidentally, we might be able to chock up Starfield's delay as being similar fear that it would bethat Starfield was shaping up to be the next Cyberpunk without a delay.
As foreboding as the idea that there were concerns at all of Starfield being "the next Cyberpunk," do they also understand the layers of problems with Cyberpunk that go deep enough that it wasn't *just* a collection of issues that further delays would resolve, but a fundamental lack of depth? If you set aside what it does right from a more linear, narrative perspective and instead compare it to the vision of an open world game experience, there was a profoundly lifeless side to the game.
With how little that they've revealed with Starfield, there is admittedly not much to gleam, but I don't see much beyond a pretty common, sci-fi veneer in the reveal trailer or concept art. Even the setting sounds like the most stereotypical sci-fi premise of two major intergalactic factions in a tenuous state of peace after a civil war that you just know is going to go pear shaped as soon as you get your feet wet in the game.
It's Bethesda's stated design direction favoring more realistic and relatively grounded sci-fi interpretations (down to drawing inspiration from SpaceX or calling their art "NASApunk") that kills my interest the most, though. Again looking at what they have shown us, the trailer and concept art pretty much fit whatever you could imagine of that made-up aesthetic. Likewise, "Grounded" or relatively realistic is definitely going to translate to pretty desolate, unexplored worlds alright.
But what makes the world's in The Elder Scrolls and the less fantastical Fallout so exciting is that they really *aren't* totally unexplored. There are ruins, vaults, and encampments that all signify everything between someone already having been there to entire civilizations that were lost to time. You want to explore these locations not just for the sake of stepping foot in a new patch of dirt no one else has ever pissed on, but because there is most likely something there that piques your interest and curiosity.
Based on Bethesda's own set patterns and trends, I'm worried that we're going to see them lean even more on all of the crafting, survival, and settlement fads as a draw to their unexplored worlds. I'm sure that we'll also see small settlements and what not, something that the concept art also shows at least, but most of what they've prevented - including the reveal trailer itself - still emphasizes the idea of rocketing off into space on a dangerous mission to explore... a dirtball. Some of what they've said in interviews has given me glimmers of hope, but I'm also working on all of thenothingthey've given us to actually be excited for when it comes to Starfield if we ignore what their other RPGs have done already given how different this one is supposedly going to be.
