Isn't literally every holiday made up? You're telling me all those valentines candies were always a thing?

Being from TX, never heard of it before all this hype. I guess it was in the southern parts.

I'd tell you I never heard of it and think it has a stupid name but I don't want red raider and navid to call me triggered so I'm going to pretend I've been putting presents under the Juneteenth tree for years

It's not a weird thing to get worked up about.

I'm all for the holiday...I've personally promoted it at my business and have observed first hand what it means to actual living people.

But let's be honest, Joe Biden made it a holiday to pander for black votes and for no other reason and that is okay to have a problem with.

Who the hell cares WHY it's a holiday at this random point in time?

Why the fuk do Americans celebrate an Irish holiday every year by getting drunk off their asses and going downtown? Nobody cares, enjoy the holiday.

This actually is very weird, to me. I am stunned that people are worked up about a holiday, although I do agree that Emancipation should have taken precedence. Still, not upset, that is very odd!

You sound like a raging liberal. “Thanksgiving is problematic because blah blah blah, July 4th is problematic because American imperialism blah blah”

You could connect the dots and make anything sound bad. It’s a holiday to celebrate slavery ending and a paid day off work. Just enjoy something.

Because if Irish people tried to make Saint Patrick's Day a serious celebration of the "Irish contributions" to American society, used the holiday to remind the mainstream of American society that there was a time when the people were racist to them and the New York Times even featured an Op-Ed that openly discussed whether or not they (that is, the Irish) were the same species ashomo sapien sapien(srs), had an entire month (and to be frank, the entire elementary school American Studies curriculum) to otherwise celebrate the exact same thing (because, again, no one is actually celebrating people being freed at the conclusion of a war-- it's a celebration of "black excellence"), and were constantly browbeating Americans for the hardships that the Irish have had to overcome-- and chiding them about other hardships that you're not doing enough to fix, I would get sick and phucking tired of that chit and tell them to stfu too.

Juneteenth should be a celebration of Americans freeing other Americans period. There should be no racial element to it whatsoever if it is to be celebrated by the nation together.

It's odd to you that a conservative message board that dispises woke culture hates the creation of an explicitly woke holiday to fly in the face of conservatives?

ok

Which is exactly what it is. Why is the misc doing what CNN is doing and complaining about a bunch of **** that doesn't actually have anything to do with the holiday?

I don't see anybody IRL going around trying to turn Juneteenth into.....anything really. Literally every exaggeration and complaint I've seen on misc and misc only. Not in the city I work which is basically 50/50 white black, not on my ******** page with a very diverse group of people, not at my job or anywhere in reality. Just misc and probably some internet page like buzzfeed. Misc is no better than buzzfeed. Let that sink in.

(I'm only guessing CNN because I don't watch the news like you pain/rage addicts)

It's literally a day you might get off, might get holiday pay for, and don'thaveto vcelebrate in any way just like any other holiday. Misc should stfu and enjoy a fukking holiday. Or don't but stfu either way because y'all sound EXACTLY like a bunch of triggered liberals upset over nothing.

Fair enough. I've seen plenty of Juneteenth stuff dude, so I have a hard time abiding this argument that the misc is completely making up the push to make this holiday relevent. And again, having a complicated opinion requiring a bit of time to explain doesn't mean that anyone is rustled. It means it's a nuanced issue.

With the exception of a very small minority of people, it seems to me the problem isn't really the holiday as much as how it's being presented.

i heard of it in (private) grade school decades ago. its probably not widely known until recently as it occurs on june 19th and most kids are already out for summer vacation by then.

its obviously been weaponized recently to divide people due to being conflated with unrelated woke bull****, but its not a new holiday.

Yes. I think your female brain comprehends normal male comradery or embellishment as anger or aggression and that populist is a trite word that I could use to describe any group of people who largely agree on a broad issue.

You're just making this a semantic argument now. Obviously that's true, that doesn't mean people are "raging" when they post on the misc.

How about you assess me, how much of an angry populist man (heard the venom in your voice as you typed this last word tbh) do you think I am?

That way I can at least have some kind of barometer to assess your judgement of an entire group of people that you constantly browbeat for judging entire groups of people.

IIRC, you live in a country of oligarchs and one of the highest abortion and addiction rates, I don't think you're a populist at all. I won't make assumptions about your emotions right now.

Strong defense of your position: strawman up an off-topic joke rebuttle (clause 1a), back down from the claim you made literally moments ago (clause 1b), and imply I'm "emotional" because I've responded to you (clause 2).

I'm not joking, my recollection is that you moved from the US to Russia. Is that untrue? It makes no sense that you'd take that action if you are a populist. That doesn't mean I think you're conservative, but it's true that most miscers are not, in fact, conservatives. This isn't really debatable based on the topics typically on the front page.

I saw that! Cool. It might be helpful if you approach this from a starting point, as in, what are conservative ideals that individuals strive to live up to? These could be:

1) Individual freedom

2) Limited government

3) Rule of law

4) Peace through strength

5) Fiscal responsibility

6) Free markets

7) human dignity

For example, if you believe it's the government's job to regulate adult sexuality, as they do in your country, you might not be an actual conservative. Any person is more than welcome to their beliefs, but I think that might be part of where we are misaligned.

Knew we were heading to the "not real Islam" argument. I could just as easily say the same thing about liberals versus Liberals, the explicit definition of the term is detached from its meaning in this particular context and you know it.
