Invest in a home gym if you can. Don't have to start big, just an Olympic bar and weights. Get 2 horse stall mats and build up from there.
But not surprised gyms are filled up. People have been stuffing their faces with soft pretzels. Chips, pizza, and booze from the couch for the last 2 years and now it's July and their beach trip made them feel fat.

The only more hardcore gym by me is still too far to want to go to.
I'm finding one with nature, calisthenics, and back to my sport roots for fitness. 100% better. I feel better, no nonsense at the gym, and my body loves it at this age. I think my powerlifting/strength focus days are in the past until I get a house and have my own home gym or I move somewhere close to a more hardcore gym.

Even in my college days (~10 years ago), most of the bros at the gym were serious and looked like they actually put in some effort. Some chatting, but people were there to work out not mess around. Gym could be busy at times, but nothing ridiculous. Most bros wore an old adidas shirt and boring gym shorts. The hot girls were hot gym girls, but most of them didn't dress like prostitutes (and certainly didn't need to in order to still be hot).
Now everyone is a fitness tiktoc wannabe, despite the fact that they don't actually lift. Everyone is wearing full gym shark gear. Loud, obnoxious high school douchebags who will crowd 1 bench with 9 dudes for 30 minutes while they all take turns trying to bench 185 lbs and failing. Sloots looking like they came straight from the strip club (I can't say I mind, but seriously where is the self respect?). Its basically a cesspool of cringe now. Even the trainers at my gym are soyboys, whereas the trainer at one of my old gyms was a legit lifter who could bench 400 lbs. I don't even mind the old people doing random things, at least most of them are decent human beings and for the most part there has always been the old dudes at the gym.
It's like just about anything - once the quantity increases, the quality decreases and in this case its done so massively. Gym goers used to be a fridge number of people, but now it seems like everyone goes (but most don't actually lift).

What's the etiquette on this? I don't want somebody coming over to spot me unless I ask. I'm doing 3x12 with the 75s.

ehh, my gym franchise is big and there's enough space/equipment, but sometimes the bench and squat racks are taken and there is a line for people waiting
gyms are worth it if you want to use the freeweights and dumbbells, and if your health insurance reimburses your membership

My biggest pet peeve is the equipment hogging. Obviously, people are going to be on equipment you are trying to use at times - but when some zoomer is literally just sitting on his phone for 6 minutes between his half ROM sets and bragging to his soyboy friends about his 135 lb bench max, it becomes rage inducing. My current gym has 5 squat racks, and I am usually waiting about 10 minutes for one to open up. My previous gym literally had 1, and it was almost always free.

The younger generation are horrible to see in gyms. They have no self awareness or gym etiquette.

The gym is crowded with Zoomers with broccoli 🥦 hair who come in huge groups. I never see women lifting weights. They’re mostly on the cardio machines.

I'm starting week 2 today after a 3 year break. Nothing but bloat lords or cash****s. The girls haven't changed much. The first week just been swimming and warm up and cool down cardio. Plenty of rage inducing motivation alone just from being inside there. The pool is worse in its own way. Yesterday some ****oot hogged an entire lane to swim a lap, stand around for 2 minutes, swim back, get out of the pool and go sit on his phone before getting back in. He only did 2 total laps with about 10+ blown minutes during those. I ended up taking his lane during one of his phone breaks. Nobody has any intensity or drive anymore. Everything is half assed, per my thread actually titled half arsed workouts.
I've done this before where I spent two weeks going hard when I got back from overseas for only 2 weeks and have changed my entire body shape and definition, so I know it's something I can do again. Meanwhile these bozos have been going there for months or years and still look like where I am starting from or worse.
