lmao, I can definitely see where the hate is coming from, but couldn't this be a good thing for places in warmer climates? I think the idea of gating security features behind monthly subscriptions is ridiculous, but if it's hot 8 of the 12 months of the year, why pay for heated seats up-front on a new car? Just buy them for the 4 months you want them? Obviously this depends on how much it costs to add heated seats permanently, and how long you plan to have the car, etc.

You're acting like the subscription somehow has an effect on the way they manufacture the seats. If they have heaters built into them, they aren't going away just because you aren't paying a subscription. It's literally just locking you out of a feature that is already installed.

On a luxury brand no less. If you are paying that much for this type of vehicle it should have all the bells and whistles standard.

cause the heated system inside the seats are already installed and you certainly are paying for them because BMW paid for them to be inside. you really think BMW is going to eat the cost because you don't want to activate the heated seat subscription?

Very true, but at the end of the day you'll have to pay for them if you want them regardless. Currently if you don't pay $XXX they just wont add them, going forward, they're going to add them regardless and you can just choose not to pay. I see where you're coming from - why not allow the use of them if they're being added anyway, seems slimey, but at the same time it also offers a bit more flexibility to consumers so idk. If it normally costs me $800 to add heated seats, but I only want use them for 4 months a year at $18 a month, and I replace the car in 2 years, I save a lot of $.

Lol you are definitely paying for them to be added regardless of whatever subscriptions they come up with. The hardware that gets installed in the seat isn't a cost they just eat, it's a part of the price you pay for the car. In fact it's usually standard for most nice luxury cars to have seat heaters, hence why the cars are kinda expensive, because they come loaded with luxury features.

Yeah of course, impossible to really know the markup on these kind of individual things that are baked in. I wonder if the initial price point will be any lower to account for stuff like this (yeah right lol). Seems like quite a few people are pissed.

Given BMWs leasing, I think this might be what they are going for. They know there are going to be multiple owners over the life of the vehicle and people won't pay the lifetime subscription if they are only going to have it for a few years. They want the car to continue to generate revenue over the entire lifetime.

It's slimey and IMO hurts the brand because they are nickel and diming for features that aren't even considered luxury by modern standards.

Completely the opposite in my Audi. I can use my VCDS scan-tool cable to actually add features. Obviously I would have to either already have the hardware or add it, but the coding can all be changed via my laptop anytime.

Many people use it to add features or change the defaults of all those little creature comforts.

I know that BMW tuning was huge for a long time, but I hear that they keep making it harder to crack.

This is what Tesla does with self drving. All cars have it but you have to pay to unlock it.

Also what tesla does with their heated seats, instead you pay for a lifetime use when you buy the car. It's cheaper to put heated seats in all new cars and then activate it if the customer chooses to do so.

The monthly option is surprising to me, too many things to consider if a card gets declined. Annual license I can see.
