Inflation hits new 40-year high as gas, food rent costs surge.

“Inflation jumped again in June on a persistent climb in gas, food and rent costs, notching another 40-year high and likely solidifying the Federal Reserve’s plans for another big rate hike this month.

Prices increased 9.1% from a year earlier, up from an annual rate of 8.6% the prior month and the largest gain since Novemberr 1981,the Labor Department's Consumer Price Index showed Wednesday. Economists surveyed by Bloomberg had estimated inflation would rise to 8.8%.

On a monthly basis, consumer prices increased 1.3%, compared to a 1% rise in May.”

JFL @ 9.1%

It’s been double digits for close to a year.

Can’t wait to look at the itemized breakdown and see how badly they padded the CPI number. Last month it was embarrassing how inaccurate the official number was.

Also if the government still used the same formula to calculate inflation as they were in 1982, today’s CPI is not a 40-year high. It is all time high territory approaching 20%...

Compare the actual price of gas to the price of crude. Makes no sense.

Yup, crude has been going down this month but the explanation for higher prices at the pump is because of less investments in refineries and other infrastructure it seems, thanks to the green hysteria.

This is getting very bad. My wife and I are pretty well off, but we feel these increases across our budget. I don't know how people living paycheck to paycheck are surviving right now. If the price of oil doesn't go down people in the north who use oil heat are going to be struggling horribly just to keep their homes warm in the winter.

Funny that costs of everything people need to live have gone up over 20% yet "inflation" is only 9.

Biden pulling this off right after a period of time people were encouraged to rot at home and paid to do it = disaster.

Only a matter of time before the plebians start rioting.

Right, it's not like 100 million people have $100k cash to dump in.
