My 10 year old has started reading the bible to me

We started on Genesis and read a bit more of it each night. It's really nice family time.

Context: I'm not religious and we don't go to church. He's never enjoyed reading, but he's really into this.

It's an old copy of the King James bible, and some of the words are hard for him.

I showed him how the books and chapters and verses work, and he asked me for some good ones. All I could think of was Leviticus 19:27.

Can anyone recommened me some good stories/verses for someone his age?

More seriously, lots of the New Testament would be good to read. Go over some of the parables. Any of the teachings of Jesus in the Gospels.

There’s a lot of violence, depravity, incest, murder and worse in that book

Not sure it’s suitable for a 10 year old

Lol, yeah. He just found this one and circled it.

Psalm 78:27

He rained flesh also upon them as dust, and feathered fowls like as the sand of the sea.

I'm on to you Jandels...

1) has helped his community raise a barn
2) hates paperclips (a technological advancement, although not electrical in nature)
3) HAPPENS to have a copy of the Bible just casually 'laying about'
4) reads said Bible and versus contained with his Son.

OP is clearly AMISH! don't let him fool you brothers!

Yeah but it doesnt idolize such things

The average 10 yr old pretends he is killing people on video games every day & is exposed to the deprived gay agenda daily via Hollywood & social media.

Sad!

I didn't have video games like that as a 10 yo but I did play 'army men' with my friends, running around shooting them with fake guns.

I don't think reading the bible will be bad for him, I think it could benefit him. The bible has alot of wisdom. Plus the general knowledge gains for when he hears characters mentioned in conversation throughout his life (Noah, Moses, David & Goliath etc).

The only themes he will be unaware of will be anything sexual. If he's reading it to me I can try and explain, or gloss over it..

One day the older daughter said to the younger, 'Our father is old, and there is no man around here to give us children--as is the custom all over the earth. Let's get our father to drink wine and then sleep with him and preserve our family line through our father.'

That night they got their father to drink wine, and the older daughter went in and slept with him. He was not aware of it when she lay down or when she got up.

The next day the older daughter said to the younger, 'Last night I slept with my father. Let's get him to drink wine again tonight, and you go in and sleep with him so we can preserve our family line through our father.'

So they got their father to drink wine that night also, and the younger daughter went in and slept with him. Again he was not aware of it when she lay down or when she got up.

So both of Lot's daughters became pregnant by their father. The older daughter had a son, and she named him Moab; he is the father of the Moabites of today. The younger daughter also had a son, and she named him Ben-Ammi; he is the father of the Ammonites of today.

All three of these I guaranty children will enjoy:

For a short story: Dan chapter 3 (the story of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego)

For another short story: 1 Sam 17 (David & Goliath)

For a longer one: Book of Esther is 10 chapters (and even the Misc would like Chapter 1 of Esther as the King ain't no simp)

Pretty sneaky way to get a bunch of miscers to open their Bible. Staying with the old testament theme:

1 kings 18 - Elijah and the priests of baal.

Daniel 6 - Daniel and the lions den.

You're pretty close. It's Samson and Delilah and is another one Miscers will enjoy as sloots aren't loyal. But the Miscer wins in the end!

mark is concise and it's one of the four gospels about jesus christ. acts is very interesting; it's about what happened directly after jesus was ressurected. after acts all of paul's letters are interesting -- half of acts is basically about paul and his friends -- but might be hard for a 10 yr old to understand. ephesians is one of the shorter ones. john is also one the first four books in the nt and it reads like a story. 1 and 2 samuel are really good old testament books and include saul (first king of israel), david (2nd), and solomon (3rd)
