Wanting to marry, have children, give back, and live a life in this world but not of it. I have seen the results of living a secular life and it leads nowhere. Hedonism is a dead end.

At 31 I believe I am truly on the path with purpose, and now it's just a matter of staying on this path and living life as it comes, while also have goals along the way.

The world has seemingly opened up to me a weird way.
This is great perspective from someone with real intentions, thoughts, and logic. This is what I am talking about. That "path" is what I am discussing in this thread and I am glad deadly striker has a sense of where he wants to go.

In a crazy way, I was engaging with Silence Speaks (even though commonly known as a troll) because it's perspective I believe was actually something to consider. My path is definitely still based on setting goals and giving and receiving. It resonates with me because I can wrap my arms around it. I am open to the fact that the next level is that true enlightenment where the "goal" isn't actually even a goal, a feeling, a thing etc and Im not there yet.

Very well put brother. Coming from my background I can totally see that being the case. Those wants and needs were that security blanket due to the background of what my family went through. I am not ashamed what so ever that I did what I did and I am where I am. I am just more excited to find that there is definitely other paths to peruse and learn from. I can see how that comes across as small minded to others that might be way ahead on the path....but where i am is where I am right now and I am excited about it.

These days I fight complacency a lot. Some days I get excited about setting a goal / getting closer to that goal. Other days I second guess the whole point of setting that goal and am unsure what it was that I hoped to even get out of it.

I use to think OK hit that first X number and I'll be happy with myself but when I did hit that number it was very underwhelming so then I'd set a higher more impressive (to me) goal and when that is eventually achieved it's still not more exciting than the last one. Example of how my weird brain works. I was excited about finding the fun car I wanted and it was fun searching but when I flew down there to drive it home I was already thinking about the next fun car I was going to replace this one with a few hours in. Maybe it's just the chase I enjoy. Not sure yet.

I spend a decent amount of time being a lot more active in the rescues I volunteer for and I find it almost therapeutic because pays me by rewarding me with serotonin / dopamine. I don't know if my definition of happiness looks or feels the same as other people but I almost feel this nagging guilt for being content and that I should be wanting / doing more. It's such a curse.
I think we are generally on the same page here. If you look at your two examples one is tied to more of a material "thing" and the other is tied to service.
I do believe happiness is different for different people since different people have dissimilar life circumstances and as another poster eloquently stated "wants and needs"

If I think hard about the times I actually jumped up and down in excitement (literally and internally) the circumstances for that have definitely changed.

In my 20's it was closing a large deal in corp america (material)
In my 30's it was buying my mom a home and making it comfortable for her (material)
In my late 30's it was making a sick kid happy by letting him ride in his dream car (both material and non material)
Now and most recently in my 40's it was watching my kid work for months/years and win a major BJJ title at a regional (non material)

I have no idea where you derive the daddy money insinuation from since I have stated multiple times that my family were refugees from a war.

Then our daughter was born and my world changed. I no longer had a wife and a house, I had a family and ahome.

Since then I have made a number of changes to free up time, as I would rather sit by the lake with her and feed the daks (she just turned one and can't say ducks properly yet) than sit in meetings.

This path has been parallels to mine as well. I pass up opportunities and value my time more than potential upside on a deal if that means taking me away and not being present for too long. This is the core of the original thoughts on where the direction in my life has been headed and continues to go. Now it seems to stem beyond my children and family and its different but exciting to see where this is headed.

Another challenge recently that has completely taken me out of my element is trying to learn BJJ. Its humbling (maybe thats exactly what my "large ego" needs) the matt and the people on them dont give a rats arse about how much money someone has, and the work that you put in never lies. You either put in the work and progress or you dont. I have seen many many people start and quit because its tough to come in and get your arse beat up day in and out.

Congrats to you man.

Happy to quote this. Its just weird to me how this guy comes in and bags on me about the same stuff. I see his golf threads and dont jump in to post any response because I simply dont have any thought, focus or care on golf. But if hes looking to share something with others that do care about golf then cool!.....

My dad is 63 with barely any retirement and I literally paid off all his CC debt (about $25k) when he almost died of Covid last year. My mom is a teacher who makes hardly anything. My focus was to never be in their position and help them out of the mess they made for themselves.

Since my son was born, my focus has completely shifted to raising him the way I wish I was raised, giving him a healthy environment as he grows, surrounding ourselves with a community of good people, and spending time together. Don’t get me wrong, I still work very hard and make great $$$ (at least for me), but it’s no longer my #1 focus. Being a high value male isn’t about making money so one can indulge in selfish debauchery. It’s about creating a legacy.
I believe we are on similar paths bro. In all honestly, the birth of my boys didnt immediately hit me the way that they do now. I think it started to really hit me when they could learn, absorb, analyze circumstances and things. Now I am all in on cultivating that and seeing where it takes them. Congrats to you bro.

On the big deal piece....no factor. You can see it as you'd like.
On the daddy money thing.......let me spell this out for you. My parents came as refugees from the Vietnam war with nothing material. I am honestly still in disbelief however that almost the entire family made it over under the conditions they endured and only lost one sibling. There is clear documentation on the conditions those refugees endured. The thing that they did have was a sense of family and responsibility. So even though we grew up in the hood, we werent "low class".

I have mentioned multiple times my core competence is in tech.

Seems like once you hit your desired level of material wealth the best move is to Rick Rubin/Tim Ferrismaxx. Just become that zen monklike guy that’s just above it all. No shoes, sits cross legged and drops a lot of wisdom, while hosting guests at your sprawling estate. A mysterious, bohemian figure if you will

I appreciate that perspective and agree. Additionally I believe its all cyclical as well. Where you may achieve success in one area there are others to work on. My recent journey as i mentioned many many times is BJJ. I throw myself into that fire weekly and get humbled every time. I am super inspired by kids much younger than me doing great things in BJJ and sharing the wealth of knowledge to people like me (babies in the sport). I have many excuses as to why I cant do it....(too old to start, multiple neck surgeries, to busy as an adult, to far to train at a world class gym) and I didnt let that stop me. My why.......is to help my kids become better as they are gravitating to it as the sport they love.....so I wanted to help them think about some details in situations. The unexpected byproduct of that was me finding a whole new challenge to tackle while also connecting with a whole new set of individuals that inspire me.

Easy to sit on the sidelines and talk. Much harder to get in the game even when its hard/sucks at the beginning.

You are stuck on this "big deal" thing. What I am talking about is experiences. I am of the belief that these forums are for some, sharing experiences with each other to learn from each other.
As I noted earlier, I was impacted by another poster I met on another forum. He gave me some things to think about which was part of the catalyst to some life changing moves for me. I never met the guy in person but am still grateful for his perspectives.

You may use this forum for other purposes which is cool with me. Thats why you dont see my coming into your golf threads with a comment. No factor for me. Generally curious however why you wouldn't discuss golf on a golf forum where others understand and can relate?

Strong projection.

Sometimes, people just want to escape from the real world. A gay indian forum where everyone is anonymous is a great place to be yourself. Just because 1 has money, it doesnt mean that they arent lacking or insecure about something else.

I would take this seriously from someone who actually has deep experience with this and living that lifestyle as its a super interesting path or state of being to understand/try to achieve. I just cant take you seriously based on the other things you talk about which completely contradict this way of being.
