Will rep any Miscer with a lower blood pressure than mine

Taking a med which lowers blood pressure a lot. Keep falling over and it's exhausting to even raise my hands above my head to wash hair, etc.

To be honest I'm surprised I'm still alive. Feel extremely weak, get gassed walking up a flight of stairs (was running swift 10ks before), fall over a lot, get rining in ears and blurred vision. But yeah i need to be on this med so gotta accept it i guess and hope it improves.

Do you faint a lot? Mine used to be 90/50 and I fainted often. Now it’s 100/70.

Yikes, doesn't below 80 systolic BP mean you don't have enough blood pressure to pump the blood all the way around your body?

Your body would be prioritising blood flow to the internal organs and brain, good night sweet fingernails.

It's just the med i'm taking.

Wondering whether this warrants going to hospital or not.

Are you extremely athletic and in the habit of doing a lot of cardio?

By cardio, I don't mean machines but exercise.

I'm a keen runner but blood pressure is so low because of this med i'm taking. I simply cannot run with current blood pressure. Sucks.

How long do you have to be on it for? Your organs aren't being perfused properly, including your brain. You would be here in the ICU with a pressure like that.

If your doc isnt aware of how low it is, he/she needs to know. Also you should get to a hospital if it doesnt get better soon. Srs.

Edit: I just noticed how high your HR is. Go to the ER brah. Those are shock vitals.

Thanks brah and repped. Maybe i haven't been taking this seriously enough. I'm reducing the med dose and so was hoping this would improve. But maybe you're right. Really appreciate the concern for a random stranger.

Edit: Sorry i didn't answer your question. I've been on the med for 2 years. The very low BP happened when i first started the med and i was falling all over the place. But after a while iBP returned to normal(ish). I increased the dose recently as I felt that the dose I was on wasn't having the best therapeutic effect. However clearly I can't stay on this dose with a BP like that so am lowering it but it will take a while. Am seriously considering going to the ER given what you said. Oddly my resting heart rate is in the 40s (because of running every day although that's out now because of tibial fracture). I had been walking around quite a bit when I took that reading. Heart rate now is 70.

does your doctor know about your low BP and the symptoms you're having? you should be on a med to raise your BP.

You definitely should. And you wont have to wait because they'll treat that immediately. You're honestly better off calling 911 and having them check you out. They take vitals and if it's that low they'll start treating it. If it's your BP cuff that is inaccurate, and theirs checks out ok, they wont charge you for the ride. But someone needs to check you out.

No. I know this sounds silly but i'm terrified that if i tell him he'll take me off this med straight away. I've found that this happens when i raise the dose so i'm confident that by lowering the dose BP will normalise. I really really don't want to be taken off the med. I've been through this before when starting the med and increasing dose so it's only temporary. But yeah, it's messed up.

Nardil (Phenelzine).

I have a great life, job and wife. But have severe endogenous depression - I'm not unhappy about anything but clearly I have some kind of neurochemical issue. Have been through every SSRI, SNRI, etc that there is and a whole range of other meds, plus ECT, rTMS and ******** and Nardil is the only med that makes me well. So it kind of is worth dying for because severe clinical deprssion is hell on earth.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Athletic_heart_syndrome

How did I know that?!

Because I used to bike huge distances and developed "Athlete's Heart" and it was not pleasant.

The trick, if that is your issue, is to decondition your heart by not running or anything like that. Eventually, your heart rate will go back to normal.

My pulse used to be in the 40s and I had to give cardio up and then just lift. After about a year it was in the 80s and that's too high in my opinion so I started back with cardio and now it's in the low 60s.

Wise words. Yeah I have been doing a tonne of cardio but had to stop a few days ago because of a tibial stress fracture. But i guess i'm not deconditioned yet. Resting heart rate is in the 40s like yours was. I'm going to be off any running for probably 5 weeks or more which is maybe a good thing. I think you're right that the blood pressure is a combination of the med I'm on plus that athletic heart syndrome.

Ha! You know about Nardil? It's very rarely prescribed anymore but if Prozac is a pea shooter then Nardil is an atomic bomb, lol.

Edit:: Given the responses I'm guessing I probably have the lowest blood pressure on the Misc, lol. I should take this seriously though, thanks for the responses, they've made me realise it's not something to be taken lightly.

It's common for athletes to have pulses in the 40s - 50s due to vascular conditioning. Their body/heart becomes so efficient at pumping blood to their muscles/organs that their heart rate drops, because it doesnt need to work as hard. But that only happens if they can maintain a normal BP.

OPs BP is deadly low and his HR is high because his organs arent getting enough blood, so his brain tells his heart to beat faster to pump more blood. Basically the opposite of what happens to conditioned athletes.

I'm certainly conditioned but the med (after i increased the dose) is doing this. I had been walking around (including a few times up and down stairs) when i measured my BP hence the heart rate. That said if you don't see me posting anymore it means the grim reaper got me.

Honestly, get a heart monitor watch, if you don't already have one and take a couple of months off of cardio.

I love exercise and I am very dedicated to a routine and that can be kind of like an addiction. It's not if it's benefiting you but if you stand up and want to pass out, that's a sign you are doing too much.

The same with your legs, do not wear your body out doing positive stuff.
