I have an interview for a train driver position which is £65k and people always tell me that thats great money, blah blah blah.
The manager of your local Aldi makes 6 figures, as does your GP and the headteacher of your local secondary school.

Income tax starts at 20% and goes up to 45%, then add national insurance on top. It's basically 50% at the top end.

there's a large discrepancy in these salaries, Canadian doctors make 200k on the lowest end rural family doctor, probably an average income of 350- 400k for a typical hospital docs and up to probably 800k for specialists or plastic surgeons and ****

lawyers start at like 60k during their filling or whatever the junior lawyer makes and the median is 120k

misc has lots of tradies, tradies make good money. Most are probably making 75k after 5 years or so into their progression

but also misc has liars, its an old message board with many mentally ill men who fraud about things cause they dont have much going on

Thx bruh

A hell of a lot, you can input annual salary here and see how much we get taxed by the breakdown

thesalarycalculator.co.uk/salary.php

65k you get taxed around 13.4k a year and 5.4k goes to National insurance, so you take home 46k

I dont have any GP or headteacher homies so cant speak on that one lol

I would say other than the folks that who have posted spoon pics, etc. are at least exaggerating their income by 10-20% maybe more. i've been guilty of it myeslf here before

I have grossed 83.4k so far this year, on track to do roughly 130k potentially more depending on what sales close, etc. also on track for a 10k bonus for business this year but won't be paid until beginning of next year.

Enterprise sales for a tech integrator, live in the midwest in a smallish city so I do alright.

My income on paper this year will probably approach $300k but $25k of that was a withdrawal from the retirement account and that was taxed heavily (fml)

There are a few people on here who legit pull $500k-1m+

Yes I get commission checks monthly, but frankly deals tend to close at the end of the month so there's a wide variance in my commission pay. I'm 75/25 base/commission.

Can't believe this hasn't been posted yet:

But in all seriousness OP:

1. You're in UK where wages are different for many reasons

2. A lot of people here are frauding. It's just like how everyone on here claims height = life, is 6 feet 2 (but still feel **super short** because Zoomers are like 6'4 minimum these days teehee), but still can't get laid. Something's not adding up here

3. 6 figures is OK, but nothing special in the US nowadays. In pretty much any major city, you should be making that in your 30s if you picked a good career. Note that "good career" doesn't just mean FAANG software, Investment Banking, Medicine, etc. I'm a CPA and even kids 3-4 years out of school are making that or close to it in most metros. CPA isn't some exclusive club nobody can get in either. It just requires sucking it up and passing slightly harder than average business classes instead of bailing and doing marketing. There's also tons of careers in analytics, engineering, etc. that pay damn near 6 figures right off the bat.

4. Building off point 3, 6 figures is table stakes for places like NYC/SF, which are ludicrous to live in COL-wise. Even at $120K in those cities, it's a stretch to be able to afford a 1BDR, and certainly not a luxury 1BDR. That's why people who live in NYC/Commiefornia feel poor, despite making yuge salaries.

5. Taxes, health insurance, and a bunch of other costs eat a ton into our salaries. The gross number sounds right, but the take home pay is quite mediocre when you factor all those deductions in

Very true, especially if you have additional retirement taken out. Last 2-Week Pay Period for me was $12,907.73 Gross, and $7,466.23 Net. Almost $5.5K in deductions, ouch.

Yes. Miscers are truthful 100% of the time because no one has ever been known to lie online.

People will always inflate their wage.

I was in the navy and guys would di it, like we cant just look at a pay chart and figure it out.

Also worked at a store where everyones sales and commision was on a big spreadsheet. They would f course inflate what they made even though everyone could see they were lying.

Just the way it is I guess.

Yes, the misc is full of frauds, liars, and people who exaggerate. The three most common are about income, sex/females, and schlong size. It is sad that so many of them think their front is believable--it is not lol

I have a few friends that are doctors. Last I asked one of them was paying around $75k per year just for malpractice insurance alone. If you were making those wages here you couldn’t even pay the bills and fees to even practice, lol. But most of them after that stuff clear around 300k

Consultant Engineer making 86K. So nothing crazy but also don't worry about money and able to raise a family, pursue hobbies and manage to still save/invest some money for a rainy day so I'm pretty happy with that. Trick is not to live above your means. I spend more on housing now but general spending has remained mostly the same since I started out making 40k as a jr drafter.
