kinda puts a damper on my plans. I was gonna buy 2.
but for like $1800 you can essentially just get the same real estate (49" odyssey g9 + 2x 27" odyssey g7) except you have to deal with the annoyance of lining up bezels
is it worth another $1700 just for aesthetics? maybe

Im not into this thing at 3500. Fuk that. I could get a 65 oled or Samsung g9 and still have cash left over to upgrade my racing sim or something.

The thing that looks the nicest is the Ark controller or whatever, so you can easily swap to 4x 27" monitors, 2x 27" and 49" UW, etc.
plus on my current setup, I can't really utilize all the real estate I have to watch youtube or netflix, because 16:9 looks mega awkward with bezels

that's 82 PPI compared to like 110 PPI for a 34" monitor of the same resolution
also 99% of people will bend something to one configuration and keep it that way forever. there's no point in having a monitor that can bend 10,000x

Well I'm trying to extend the life of my PC for another year or two. It's pretty old. 2016 or 2017.
I have a 7th gen core i5 with 16gb and a radeon rx580.
Just ordered 16gb more ram and evga geforce 2060 12gb. I only have a pcie 3.0 motherboard so couldn't upgrade to the 3060. Not sure it would even be worth it, $450 for that card vs the $250 for the 2060.
The pcie version 5 motherboards are out now and it's only a matter of time before the 4060 or whatever they are going to call it comes out. Then I'll build a new system.

But man, at peak summer if me and my gf were both gaming with our pcs cranking, it would get unbearably hot in my pc room. Part of the reason I ended up getting a new case which helped. My old h710i was terrible.

I am adding a pcie 3.0 m.2 drive, probably the last thing I'll do to this old computer. That should keep me able to play current games for another year or so. Then I'll look at building a new box from scratch.

I like feeling immersed in my games, and also like having lots of screen real estate for when I'm not gaming. or even ingame, being able to have YouTube, Discord, Spotify all open and viewable.
I think over the years I've gone bigger and bigger with monitors, but the 55" is finally peak performance. a 48" has everything the 55" has, except the ability for 32:9 for shooters

the general rule is that if you're into extreme competitive gaming, you want a small monitor with high refresh rate, so like 24 or 27" max monitor and 240hz+
if you are more casual and want to enjoy things more, then 1440p, 4k, 21:9 and 32:9 aspect ratios all make the gaming experience much better imo

I'm just looking for some input here on some things I'm considering now that the Ryzen 7000 CPUs are out:
- 5900x + x570 motherboard + DDR4 (32gb)
- 7900x + a new x670e or b650e motherboard + DDR5 (32gb) is stupid expensive, mostly because of the motherboards.
The problem I'm having here is that the motherboards are so stupidly overpriced yet seem like they're cutting out so much over z690 and x570 boards. It's one thing if you're going to cut down the SATA ports, but then there damn well better be some m.2 slots to compensate for the "new" storage standard. I need SATA for my use case with some HDDs and SSDs, but I'd be fine sacrificing the number of available SATA drives from the old days if it meant I could upgrade to NVME drives since the price inevitably goes down.
Asrock x670 e Pro Rs- $279.99
This is the only x670e motherboard with 6 sata5m.2, and it's not $400+.
MSI b650 Carbon wifi- $329.9 ($319.99 with rebate)
Again, 6 sata, 4 m.2.
What the actualfukk, AMD?
- Intel Raptor lake is around the corner + z690 motherboards that are pretty damn packed for good quality models + support 13th gen and DDR5.
A couple examples:
Asus ROG Strix z670 F Gaming Wifi$339.99
6 SATA, 4 m.2 slots
MSI MPG Z690 CARBON WIFI DDR5 - $369.99
6 SATA,5m.2 slots
Like, bruh. You can get good quality stuff with the Intel boards that by no means are going to be outdated seeing as how nothing even uses PCIE 5.0, including the 3080 ti that I'm planning on keeping for a long while. I'm straight up thinking of selling my AMD parts sitting in the corner since 13th gen is going to be out soon, take the fukkin' loss, and not have to worry about upgrading for several years since I hate going through this PC building/upgrading schite anyways.

I will stand firm, I refuse to kneel - The fury in me is divine
My dark grave awaits, my fate is revealed - But I'm not afraid to die

Based on what you presented, the intel side is a much better offering for what you need and for your future plans.

I'd not trust a future simple bios update to fix stuff on first gen am5 for the 8000, 9000, etc. Some AMD boards stopped fully supporting features of 1st gen ryzen towards the end
I bought 12th gen intel with the idea that id eventually get a 13700k or 13900k/ks around the time the 14th gen drops for a big discount, and chose the ddr4 route. CPUs are not making the differences they did in the past unless you specifically need a lot of threads at high frequencies. ddr5 probably has another couple years to convince me that it actually matters. pci-e 5.0 is also brand new and it doesnt really matter right now

The DDR4 on 12th/13th gen intel is a big deal. I was originally going to go with DDR5 for the best of the best, but the more I read - the more issues I am seeing about DDR5.
Think I will also probably go the DDR4 route and give the platforms a couple of years to mature.
