Yeah theres always such a small area of actual damage pretty much no matter what. This is the first time I've seen a hurricane reach orlando as a cat1, however.

Every station was toting 155MPH winds...there was not a single second that hurricane saw 155MPH winds.

The NWS stations using University of Florida stations on the coast where the hurricane saw landfall were consistently recording HALF the sustained wind speed of "private" stations.

I thought that was very interesting.

My moms beach next door neighbor lives in Naples and so does their daughter. Their daughters house may be a complete loss.Luckily the parents house seems ok so far.

Orlando brah checking in, wasn't here for Charley so this is my first major Hurricane. Gotta say the wind was the worse of it all, other than a few slats falling off my vinyl fence and a few tree branches down in my backyard we're all alive and well. No outtages due to our community having underground powerlines. Feeling this thing will reform in the atlantic and wreck GA / Carolinas . Hope all FL brahs are safe

It really makes you appreciate the better building standards. Definitely doesn't seem nearly as catastrophic as Hurricane Andrew.

I'm sure building standards played a role but Hurricane Andrew had a direct hit on a more densely populated area.

Newer homes all are required to have roofs properly attached to the house, which was not common practice on older homes. Most homes are still built with concrete/blocks anyway plus are required to be built to higher wind resistant standards. The roofs on older homes are their biggest weakness.
