i belive we have free will but the law stops most of us from doing so.

here's what I know...

Plants will work towards the good of itself or the collective good of it's species

Animals will work towards the good of itself or the collective good of it's species

Sometimes things can go haywire and their brains/whatever get messed up and they kill themselves for one reason or another. Setting that aside fo mental health issues...

A human person that is completely mentally healthy, a normal regular person, has the option, abilitiy, and history to see what is good for himself, see what is good for his family, see what is good for his tribe, his country, his species, and he can still decide to do what is bad for these people/groups.

To me, that ability to choose to go against the natural order of things is indicative of free will.

I also ascribe to the theory that we're only "conscious" for lack of a better term, like 20% of the time throughout our day. A lot of the time we are just kind of switched off and in NPC mode to conserve energy. It takes a lot of power to think

I don't think everything is a conscious choice... A large amount of thoughts and actions are subconscious

If you meditate and try to stop thinking, a bunch of thoughts will pop into your head. You really can't stop them, you only can try to control how you perceive them or react to them, or just try to observe them. But you can't stop thinking and a lot of these thoughts inevitably lead to actions

You can choose to investigate actions and preferences and influence your subconscious. Or you can ride through life and see where your subconscious takes you.
