Working in sales is the only way to enjoy life (srs)

Just had a pretty thick contract come in and it makes all these L's I've taken recently worth it. I got this client from a phone call I made over a year ago....already made money off of them too. Kinda looking forward to what the future holds for me.

I'll probably be looking for another job by Monday lmao fml...would still recommend sales for anyone without kids or a family to support. The ups and downs are worth it srs.

EDIT: And don't ask how much I've made this yr or last month. Funded $6.0M-$6.5M my first year (2021) but mortgages & R/E are poverty for now due to Fed/rates but hopefully the long-term pays off.

Books don't work as well NoFap & Meditation. I'm sure it varies from man to man but if you can keep up the aforementioned habits for 30 days, life is good. You don't necessarily "strike your clients hearts" or turn into a "magnetic personality" in a noticeable way. It's just a subtle increase in the quality of life that builds up over time. Many gurus recommend self-improvement as a keystone to a successful sales career and I agree. I'd for sure be better off if I kept up with that kind of stuff.

Tbh all it really takes is not caring about rejection and thinking you can succeed. That's just for being a mids producer. Top tier guys are sober, do all of the above, and focus on self improvement...gotta strive to be like that if you wanna truly make it.

This is exactly right. Having employed 100's of sales people, I have found that it is not the one who has the most God given qualities (good looking, articulate, public speaking ability, ability to understand the product, etc) that is successful. Those qualities definitely help, but the key to success in sales is to shake off the L's. That next phone call might be your big commission. The other thing, iamdetermined is that you are closest to your next deal when you have signed your last deal, meaning momentum is a real thing.

Sales is GOAT, I wish I realised this when I was 18-20 instead of much later in life.

Unlimited earning potential, you learn skills that help you in EVERY area of your life, you can work your way up to high ticket sales and become top 1% earners in the world.

And now thanks to the Covid BS, remote sales has become huge so you can close massive deals from anywhere in the world meaning you can travel 365 and still make big money.
There is but one path....we kill them all.

**** that. I tried it for a year and that was the most miserable I had ever been. Horrendous lifestyle. All it attracts is losers and addicts who of course love those โ€œhighs and lowsโ€ and also have no other options in life. Unless you are an extreme extrovert with absolutely no shame, itโ€™s a terrible way to make a living. Sales is the job equivalent of a BPD chick who snorts coke and works as a stripper. Itโ€™ll kill you in short order if you donโ€™t know how to handle it.

I'm going to toss in that being self-employed is also the GOAT life if you can deal with the stress of only relying on yourself and have a good amount of hustle. I can take time off whenever I like (except it means I make less money), work from home and don't have to deal with idiotic coworkers or office politics.

The hardest part is the build, and then once you get into cruise control it's easy as hell.

You do it by ensuring the highs and lows of your professional life do not affect your personal life. In the professional sales world, it can be done if you have high confidence in your ability.

Most people dont have the grit, financial acumen or problem solving skills to make it to the highest level of sales where you make real money.
you can make ZERO money for 3 quarters, then land a contract that nets you 7 figures. Of course, that is an extreme example but not uncommon in the highest levels of tech sales.

I am no extrovert and I hold my credibility to a high standard. You need to give more context into what type of "sales" job you were doing.

My number one rule for sales........you have to completely believe in what you are selling and be very knowledgeable on what value it could bring to the person you are talking to.
Its a simple concept to understand but few master. Sort of like playing poker.

Worked in sales most of my life and today I teach it at bachelors level in a state university while, in parallel, selling academic sponsorships for the school. Last year had a record year, made more than the rector of the university (dead fkn serious). Mostly work from home but go on campus from time to time.

Comes with a bunch of stress tho thatโ€™s for sure but I have an epic discipline and hygiene.

One of the books Iโ€™d recommend the misc is The Challenger Sale, old but very useful. Also, other the obvious industries (tech, pharma, โ€ฆ) one that is overlooked is: selling marketing sponsorships. This sector has been growing for 20 years and will continue as investments in the com-MKG budget keep shifting towards it. Look for pro sports teams, events, museums etc that sell sponsorship and there might be an opportunity there.

When I was in sales I read books by Brian Tracy and went to his seminars. I also saw Les Brown. Both are GREAT.

I did sales on the side, though, in addition to a regular 9-5 job with a regular hourly rate for 40 hours/week for family stability.

It was exhilarating when I hit my quota for the month, but when people wouldn't call me back by month end that also was depressing. But when I hit District Manager I was so excited, and then I earned a free trip to Puerto Rico when my daughter was really young and we never could afford to travel beyond Disneyland.

I don't know if I could do tech sales, though, even though people tell me to do it since I work in tech in another type of job.

sales is only good if

1) you're selling an awesome product you believe in

2) easy to get prospects or given to you. So you're not "cold calling/emailing" all day like many sweatshops.

Probably depends on what you are selling. I know a dude who worked sales most of his adult life, ATT and for Ford, essentially selling Iphones and cars his entire life. The stress ruined him, he became obese, alcoholic and on all kinds of meds, got divorced.

Then at 32 he just up and walked out one day and became a plumber and is happy for the first time in his adult life. Though he also has a weird hippy vegetarian girlfriend now who is all into holistic healing approaches and convinced him to stop taking his meds and drinking alcholol. In like a year dude went from 6'2'' 300ish, to probably sub 250lbs now
