I quit easily in one day because I actually wanted to quit. Just took an quarter ounce of weed flushed it down the toilet and didn't think about it again for years.

When I was 16 I was a chain smoker (Marlboro Reds). It was winter time, cold af, and my car had broken down in the driveway, so I spent an entire weekend hitting the bong everytime I wanted a cigarette.
By the end of the weekend I had entirely stopped smoking cigarettes.
Oh, wait...

I was using daily 2-5 bowls per day in my glass pipe shaped like Donald trump Srs
One morning it just hit me and I didn’t know what it was. I smoked a bowl thinking it’d remedy the pain. Big mistake. I thought at first was maybe something I ate.
I smoked like that daily for a lot of years though. It did take a lot to do that but I just wanted relief the whole time pain was unbearable

I think from what I've seen most people who do smoke, do it about this much but only for a short period like a year or two then grow out of it.
I just stopped. I smoked and thought it was innocent and made boring times (covid/lockdown) more interesting, but it doesnt. It makes you very content with being bored and not doing anything. It also masks anything that you should be focusing on fixing in your life too. Like if you have looming deadlines or things you need to do, it makes you not worry about it.
Quitting for the first few days was kinda tough, but after a week or two - you forget what being high feels like and then you can't miss something if you can't remember what it feels like.
If he needs help to quit, make him write down a Pros and Con's list. There will be a LOT more Con's that Pro's.
Then maybe find something that can help motivate him to quit for a bit. Once you stop smoking (everyone I know has said the same), you will notice your life is SO much better. Its like taking that droog from the Limitless movie. Relationships are better, you will be in better shape, better friendships, more social, more money. etc
Maybe say to him something like
"If you don't have a problem with it, lets play a game / place a bet. I bet you $50 you can't go one week without smoking"
then after 1 week
"ok, How about this. I will double the bet and bet you $100 you can't make it another week"
Then after 2 weeks
I bet you cant go a whole month without smoking..
then in that time he might have realised it's not actually serving his interests? Depends how badly you want him to quit tbh. You can replace the $ with something else.
At the end of the day though, if he doesnt want to quit, then he wont. If he does. Then he will.

Though my condition is currently considers rare it does happen to heavy cannibus users. I wish it hadn’t as I loved weed. I’d still be toking it daily if never got that.
In the end your body snd lifestyle allows you more Lee way than mine with substance use.

op, i've been smoking DAILY for years. most of my 21 to 26 were blurry. you know what i achieved during those years? not much. tried quitting so many times bro.
3 months ago i sat with myself and just understood how much i let get passed by me. how i underachieved all those years. how i had no ambition. not in gym or with girls.
plus, after long term use - in the end it will probaly fuk you up in the head, one way or another. for me - panic attacks.
i told myself ENOUGH is ENOUGH. and im clean for the last 3 months.
i dont have some trick, because in reality - there is no trick. but when you face the brutal reality, you have 2 options - either lay and rot, or rise and shine.
i got a bit away from my smoking friends, this is a MUST at least for the first few weeks. DONT let him have his years pass by - i regret doing it myself everyday. you need to make him understand what he's doing.
good luck bro.

Life is all about moderation. Sure, I don't know anyone that has quit in my circle. There's no need to. Why would you even want to? They're all professionals with great careers. We only talk about the benefits, because that's all we see.
It's not for everyone. Anything can be a crutch. If that's the problem, then you prob. need to quit period and never do it again. Same as drinking or any other drug.

daily pot smoker for over 7 years before i decided to quit back in February of this year for good
haven't struggled with a single impulse to break my sobriety and smoke at all
i also have really wanted this for a long time so perhaps that's why it was so easy on my end to stop and not look back

Do he smoke it with tobacco? If so he might have a physical addiction to nicotine which he accociates with weed.
I know multiple people that smoked weed daily for many years that has quit, some has gone cold turkey others still do it a few times a year.
They say it's not addictive, but when you do it daily for over 10 years then it's clear that there is addictive elements to the behavior. However quitting is not a huge thing like opioids, alcohol or benzos.
Perhaps some melatonin to help with the sleep the first week. A hobby and a job will help...

I was a nightly smoker for the chronic pains I have in my back but I've learned to dial it back to the weekends only and even then its a very mild high enough to simulate my mind and I can still do whatever I need to do around the house and such.
Knew people that would smoke and get high to the point of just melting into the couch lol but I rarely ever do that I still like being functional, its all about control and if you let it control you then yeah quitting won't be easy but that takes a certain person and will power to want to do that.

Be me
Have severe panic attack after smoking up with your boys at 15
Trigger chronic depersonalization/derealization
Spend the next year of your life petrified in a dream state and open the flood gates for a lifetime of episodic DP/DR
People who claim that chit is harmless are delusional
But a lesson was learned and I’ll never touch it again let alone any other substance, which was the path I was on at the time.

I did sober October to try and quit weed for good, and noticed nothing really improving. I was more irritable, had more trouble sleeping, and had a harder time reaching "Flow State" when working creatively.
However, I stopped cold turkey and had no issues with it for that month. I didn't see enough benefits to quit forever, but don't smoke nearly as much as I used to. Maybe I'll try Sober November next month and see if I get more benefits quitting the ganj, this time.

I smoked heavy for about 3 years, then have been off for 4 years. Moved to the PNW where it's legal, work didn't test, so I took advantage of it. Stopped smoking when I started dating my now wife. Switched careers into a manufacturing environment where we were regularly drug tested so that helped keep me away from it, also change in salary where I didn't have the disposable income like I used to. Switched careers again where I'm not tested but have not started back up, likely will not.
My friends who were smoking we didn't smoke together, I switched jobs to where I had to stay off, and I wanted to be available mentally for my wife and our daughter is my success story.

I injected the marijuanas up to 6 times a day. What ended up making me quit was learning how I was destroying my family.
My boys inchamery, SYV, Envisu, and krackerjacked hosted an intervention and I got clean.

I'm an extremely experienced weed user.
Do you really know the reason he's smoking weed?
For me personally, it's because it's the only thing that helped me sleep and because when I was young I was always bored and had nothing better to do.
As parents, you can help him with any issues that he feels WEED helps him with.
Maybe it's just a phase? Many go through short-term stoner phases where they stop on their own.
Maybe he has anxiety? Most parents are retarded and don't even know their own children.

I tried to sub in weed for a substitute for alcohol and nicotine but gave up after realizing the high from weed is just absolute trash compared to being drunk. Realized every time I got high I was mostly just waiting for it to be over.

3 joints a day is nothing. As most miscers above will tell you. Its an affinity bordering a bigger problem, but not even close to "addiction."
As for solutions:
You just stop. As described above, its not opiates, its not benzos, its not real drugs. You stop, you sleep like **** and dont eat a lot for a week, and then you're back to normal. You have to WANT to stop though. Which is different. If he doesnt want to stop then you're SOL. People have to make the realizations themselves as to the negative effect its having on them/their lives.
I was a D1 athlete, always had good grades, went on to a career at a bulge bracket bank, and never stopped. I was getting positive affirmation from all the data points in my life and never saw the need to stop. I got a gf who didnt appreciate me being high all the time, took a harder look at my weed related finances, and thats when I decided to take a long break and only come back occasionally. Now I just smoke a doink or two on the weekends.

Weed is good to chill and wind down after a long day.

I've quit cold turkey many times, for anywhere from 3 months up to a year. smoking between 3-5 spliffs a day, or anywhere from 7-10 bowls a day out of a water pipe. It's really not hard to quit, just takes a modicum of willpower. For me the biggest motivator was friends who were convinced I was addicted and couldn't just "stop". They were the only reasons I ever quit, aside from a couple tolerance breaks.
