They're just people above you, operating on a higher plane, that do not want anything to do with you outside of some miniscule task.
So you call them stuck up or narcissistic when in reality they're pretty normal, just ahead of you in the dominance hierarchy.
They might entertain you for a bit to get something from you, but won't shed a tear if they never hear from you again.
"Covert" narcissists are just the ones who try to be a little nicer about it.

Generally they are people that suffered emotional abuse or neglect as kids and their personality fractures. They are often the children of narcissists themselves, but sometimes its just their environment that can cause it. But its related to abuse and neglect, and the epidemic of single mothers is breeding these ****ers in huge numbers now.
Narcissistic personality disorder is a psychological defence mechanism that works on a spectrum. Its not confidence, which is what some people assume is narcissism. These people operate purely from a position of protecting their ego, because the image they have of themselves is the protective psychological shell they build as a result of the abuse they suffered. They have no real personality because one was not allowed to develop, instead what they have is a projection of a personality like a chameleon. The projection of that personality is based on what they need from the people around them.
This why they lie like they do. They cause friction between people. They spread rumours and gossip to destroy peoples reputations. They use people and manipulate people to get what they want. They view themselves through the lens of what other people do, and believe that this is how those people will view them. They will commit crimes and acts of violence to feed the ego.
The mistake is that people think its for attention. Its not for attention, its for fuel. Their ego is fuelled by any attention, good or bad it does not matter. Often the more damage they do, the more "fuel" they generate.
Covert narcissists are a clinical type. They tend to be women, but these narcs feign weakness and rarely engage in direct reputational attacks on people, but they are ruthless behind the scenes
An example would be that family member who meets the woman of his dreams, and she gradually extracts him from his family. Eventually he starts to resent his family, not see them or even take her side on small issues that should not even be issues. SHe might make it hard for grandparents to see the kids, or turn the kids against the grandparents.

He views people through the same lens that he views himself and his motivations, and he projects his views of himself and his motivations onto them in comparison. Nothing exists outside of how everything is a reflection of him or a reflection of whatever is going through his mind at the moment. He then makes acute judgements of these people
He will then act up based on where they may fit in relation to him and his ego. If they make him feel insecure, he will view them with derision and want to bring them down a peg if he can. He resents them. If they make him feel secure, he will view them with pity but would bring them into his orbit if given the opportunity because he would believe they would adore him. Its pretty ****ing pathetic, but its a mental illness and needs to be viewed as such.
What that means is that he does not see people for who they are, he sees them for what they are in comparison to his OWN view of himself at that particular time. He is incapable of forming genuine relationships, every relationship will be one where he tries to extract something.
You feel sorry for him, but know this guy is a wrecking ball to the people in his life and his posts really do need to be read with his mental illness taken into account

The vast majority of the people here are not narc's, not from what I have seen but I have not been posting here long either maybe that view will change.
WOA sticks out like a buzzing red light though.
