If it was all highway and not city driving, maybe I could do it.

I enjoy my 7 min commute. I don't know how people do that long commute BS.

i used to do it, but it was more like 35 minutes 1 way, 1 hour the other

you get used to it, it's worth it if the pay is worth it. say if it was 20-30% bump to your salary. but it also depends what you would use those 2 hours of extra time for? obv an extra half hour of sleep is great if you don't get enough. how productive would you be in those hours you save? or maybe you value an extra hour to just relax.

it's still the same for me, but I work from home 2 days a week. Plus my brother drives me half the time so I can spend that time doing other stuff so it isn't bad.

as mentioned, best you can do is maybe put on some podcasts and hope you learn something from it.

There needs to be a substantial salary increase, your time and health is valuable, those will shrink spending 10+ hrs per week in a rolling cage.

Probably would have been okay when I was single. I usually find driving relaxing. But now that I have a wife and kid, time is precious and anything more than 30 min each way would be a nope. I got other chit to do.

From a sustainability standpoint, it is a disaster of a choice to make. Unless you have an electric car, you are looking at consuming an extra 2-3 gallons of gas per day. That's 10-15 gallons per week or 500-750 gallons per year. IF you cared about the environment and sustainability at all, you'd move much closer to where your new job is located. If you have an electric car, good for you, but as others have stated, you're going to have lots of your time gobbled up on the road - but maybe that's a plus because it's time you can decompress by playing your favorite music in the car or listening to audiobooks or whatever, if you can manage not to let bad traffic get on your nerves too badly.

Don’t do it OP. I did it out of college for 2 years for first job and it’s soul sucking. Unhappiness is derived from sitting doing nothing aka traffic. It’s complete dead time, time you can’t use for anything else. As others said a 8-5 job becomes 6:30 - 6, absolutely awful way to live, and that’s just doing typical 40 hour wage work


You’re also burning a lot more in gas and care wear and tear than your think. Someone would have to double my salary for me to take that kind of commute again dead srs. If I got offered a job tomorrow for 50k more but have to drive that far daily I’d laugh and hang up


As another poster said ideally you can either wfh or work by biking distance. Thats how you hack life

A few years ago my commute was 30 miles one way which translated to 45 minutes on a good day and over an hour on a bad day. Now my commute is 4.5 miles which is like 12 minutes with traffic. Makes such a huge difference in quality of life. You also don't get too annoyed with traffic because for me its literally like 3 lights and I'm home.

That is 21.75 DAYS a year driving.

Toss in all your other errands and you are spending one whole month a year in the car.

2. city stop and go lights or highway
3. your vehicle and service costs
4. you yourself, are you laid back or type A
5. will you stay late to avoid the evening rush hour.
6. do bad drivers in the city make you freak out.

Driving in peak traffic? waking up an hour earlier? Getting home more tired than usual? Almost never worth it srs.

Hated my life when I had to drive an hour into work, mainly because of the TIME that you are driving is literally the worst time of the day/week. I drive 3-4 hours one way, 7-8 hours a weekend to go home and I'd much prefer that because I drive in the evening or super early morning where there is no traffic.

Driving with other plebs around is fkn disgusting

if its one hour no traffic ever... pay is good, I can deal with it. get yourself a sound system, subs, etc. have an incredible music experience daily.


if its like a big city where you will experience bullchit 60 additional minutes worth traffic on top of your 60 mile distance, fuk all that you will end up killing yourself.

if the money is worth it, i'd move closer.

I did that for a few years because traffic was so bad. Wasn’t fun. I would pretty much hit the gym after work eat dinner then go to bed.

No there will be no traffic at all. Just the highway that connects my town to the city. And the airport is just outside the city so I wont even be entering the city
