Used to agree but raising minimum wage would affect literally nobody around here at this point. When gas stations and fast food places are advertising $14-$15/hour starting....nobody is making min wage.

I've known dozens of servers, I used to be one in college, employers are not "shafting" them, you really think a business is going to risk getting shut down + heavy fines over a few dollars, just no

In reality they're getting $7.25 + tips on the very low end


You've been reading too many stories online, the majority of servers out there are making double minimum wage or more; I used to take home $200+/day & that was back in the 00's
I guess it just depends on the place and who you talk to. I think I'm fairly aware. My brother did well with tipped work, a little as a server at a higher end place, but mostly tending bar. From the outside it seems like most servers live that "easy come, easy go" life and spend whatever cash they have thinking there is always more where that came from, which if fine so long as you happen to have a thick wallet when rent is due and business doesn't slow down.

Likely reason that there isn't enough waitstaff. If employers only have to bump them to $7.25 and they can make $14 or $15 in a non-tipped job there isn't much incentive to wait tables.

Here's what's happened


-Economy was shut down over a weak flu
-People didn't want to go back to work after free gubment/employer handouts
-Businesses increased base pays everywhere to entice employment
-Product prices went up as a result

Real wages adjusted for inflation are -3%.

If wages were favorable to workers shouldn't we see better labor participation?




The US$ is being actively devalued and it has been going on for some time.
