You mention having to close store; the Starbucks near me has been forced to close on random days due to having no staff. They have also recently chaged hours to close earlier because they cant find anyone to work late. This location is losing money by being closed because the company isn't paying enough to retain staff. It's up to Starbucks to do the calculus on weather being closed is worth not paying people more. Right now, the employees have leverage and are using their advantageous position to petition for higher wages. If starbucks can't match the demands, tough chit they don't get labor

Again, why do you guys think workers should be forced to accept wages that they deem not worth their labor? This is the other half of capitalism.
They aren’t being forced. They agreed to work there for specific wages. They are free to go elsewhere. This is Marxist ideology. Its not the wages, it’s the idea that these individuals have more worth than they do. “Living wages” are arbitrary. Wages are created based on demands of the position, output, and competence

It sounds like Starbucks, which would likely attract starry eyed pussies, is having a hard time hiring/retaining employees because sometimes they actually have to work hard.

Do you know how many jobs there are like that? And do you know what you do if you don’t want to work there anymore?
Entire NYPD should go on strike. You'll see then how quickly the mayor changes his tone.

EXACTLY. That isexactly what people are doing. Workers are quitting Starbucks en masse all across the country. This lead to the company being chronically under staffed. The remaining workers are getting worked extra hard, and are now protesting and asking for better wages to compensate. This is capitalism 101.
This is Marxist ideology. Its not the wages, it’s the idea that these individuals have more worth than they do.
Judging by your posts in the RP you are a smart dude so I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt, but this here is such a chitty take. Workers are worth what they can negotiate from their employer. You don't get to decide an arbitrary worth based on your subjective idea of how easy or unimportant a job is, and decide some random employee somewhere doesn't "deserve" a certain salary.THAT is Marxism.

Marxism would be when the government comes in and takes control of Starbucks and standardizes wages. Capitalism isexactly what is happening right now; workers deciding they arn't paying enough and demanding better wages, or quitting(which they are doing en masse)

Just when you think it's getting easy you get some phlaggot ordering 5 drinks, each with 10 unique customizations. This issue is simple. The shift staffing isn't matching the demand, and it's it's not an issue of how much they're getting paid...Staffing. Staffing. Staffing.
Yes, this is definitely as hard as marching 25 miles of unpaved terrain with 70lbs of gear on your back in 90 degree weather with 100% humidity. If I wanted a real challenge I should have joined the Starbucks corps instead of the Army.

A Nespresso can do the job of a barista, and better too. At least the Nespresso won't get my name wrong.

This is such an unbalanced comparison and it's clear you're replying in bad faith and ignorance. You wouldn't last a month doing the job I've done and I don't care howhardyou've worked to escape your little poverty 3rd world life.

I've outlined the issue earlier in this thread. If you don't agree, that's fine but replies like yours are only meant to incite a negative reaction because you dislike what I've said.

You are the type of guy to walk out during a sunday lunch rush because you couldn't handle getting yelled at by your 5th Karen of the day because you added the wrong syrup because you are mad and flustered you had to delay your smoke break by 10 minutes because it's busy.

Holy fuking hell someone finally gets it.

It's a real grind and a gauntlet for sure. Supervision and management is the only thing that can make it somewhat bearable and if those two suck than it's truly a miserable time.

I had three supervisors who bullied me for a while, until I started to get along really well with one when he realized we liked the same music. The comradery was the only thing that got me through through shifts sometimes, srs.

You don't think people who work full time making billions for starbucks deserve to sleep indoors and eat food? If you don't want starbucks to pay for their own workforce to live, that leaves 2 options:

1. Taxpayers should pay the cost of living for starbucks' employees instead and make sure they survive.

2. To ensure Starbucks profit margins are protected, cut all social nets and turn the US into a poverty chithole country like literally every single like country (e.g. India). Dump tens of millions of people into the street and wish them the best of luck with their favela building goals of 2023.

Yeah, I did.

Most Starcucks stores have a thin path where the coffee is brewed, lattes are made, and orders are taken. It's as narrow as a trench. Yes, there's a pocket for the drive thru area for orders to be stored, room for workers to take orders, and to hand them out, but yeah it's as thin as a trench.

I've worked fast food before, but I was 16 at the time. The only thing hard about the job was the monotony. You got to toughen up man. Lol at PTSD from a tour of duty at Starbucks.

Ohhh so you've worked fast food. My bad, so you know everythingabout how being a barista works. Right?

You wouldn't last a month working a busy bar as a barista. I'm sure your proud bootstrapper mentality believes otherwise but you'd be humbled, quickly.

I've done the job. You haven't.

Yes they are. But the real question is, why are these adults fighting so hard over a job that should be done by teenagers working after school jobs?

Over half of the time these establishments don't want to hire teenagers because they can't fulfill the hourly requirements of the job????

Believe me. I started applying to jobs at 15 years old...things don't work that way anymore and it's very clear you areout of touch..

I've been working since I was 12, under the table until I was 16, and then legally. Why don't you go get a real job?

Oh boo hoo. You had to work younger...is that your argument?

What do you mean 'why don't you get a real job?'

Working at Starcucks was my first job after graduation. Get it? It was a started job until I worked into information technology. Prior to that I had been applying to jobs since 15 years old, but none of them wanted to hire someone under 16yo unless they had connections. Every time you speak you just prove how out of touch you are on the subject.

It's clear you're oversimplifying what I've said and you're trying to misrepresent my point.

You're willfully misunderstanding what I've said because you can't handle being wrong or thinking outside of your limited world view.

It's pathetic. Think whatever you want, but you're ignorant on this subject and maybe you should educate yourself on it before opening your mouth next time.

Try it one day, and tell me how easy it is.

Let's not mince words. Being a barista, which is made up BS, lets call it what it is, being a Starbucks cashier is not hard work.

Here's the truth of the matter, Dunkin Donuts makes all their food and drinks from scratch, but you never hear them complain, meanwhile Starbucks just microwaves premade food, and makes their drinks just like Dunkin donuts, but they're constantly complaining about how hard their job is. It's not a hard job, which is why it pays $15/h, not hard physically, or mentally. Starbucks is shyt quality, tan by trannies, and I don't care if they strike indefinitely.
When it comes your time to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with the fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song and die like a hero going home.

Okay...

So now you're comparing different positions in different companies???

One is busier than the other for starters and one allows more drink customizations than the other. I don't care about the pay, trannies or whatever little reach you're using because you can't stand to be wrong.

We're not talking about being a cashier you dense little 3rd world man..We're talking about being a BARISTAwhich covers being a Cashier, Drive Thru Window, Front Register, or Bar operator.

Realistically a fully staffed floor involves 6-7 Baristas.

A Barista is a general term to describe anyone who works Register, Drive Thru, Hot Bar, Cold Bar, and Store support. Are you getting it now you dense phuckaroonie???

One of us has experience working in this environment and the other doesn't. Can you guess who has zero clue what they're talking about?
