they were extremely well spoken, well read, and had insane levels of focus. sort of feels like we've regressed as a society since the introduction of the smart phone (EOD was right). the people who can sit down and focus without distractions for extended periods of time are the ones who will get ahead.

true that op. I used to skip books altogether and reading 10 pages at a time out of a biography was a real challenge for me. Now I'm well into filling up a nice bookcase with all the books I've read. It definitely does improve clarity and focus. One of the best decisions I have ever made was getting back into reading.

yeah no that's real dumb. That's on par with saying "I don't need to go to an art museum since I can just look up a photo of the art online" and the same could be said about photos of monuments and beautiful landscapes. You don't know the depth of it until you've immersed yourself into it.

Despite that, I posted a pic somewhere that included my feet, not thinking anything of it and got a bunch of messages from the foot fetish guys. As I have always had guys IRL who are not into the foot fetish thing comment on how cute my feet are, I wasn't really that surprised at the messages. shrug. I'm a very selective reader.

When I find something I like, I really like it. I will finish it in a week. Then another book, maybe a chapter a week until I lose interest.

Skunk Works was my last read, couldn't put it down.

Is there a book of various biographies of different business leaders in history and how they saw a trend and took advantage, or broke a trend, or placed themselves in the right position or something fell in their lap by chance and they took advantage of the opportunity?

I’m basically looking for a history of various entrepreneurs and how they changed their own lives and changed society…. Or something similar to that business leader aspect.

I was hoping someone wrote a book that had snapshots of various business leaders and their story of success.

It seems like I’ll have to read about them one by one. I was going to read Peter Thiel’s book Zero to One (not a story of his own success, from what I heard).

Most similar I guess is to go through the audiobook of Steve Jobs by Walter Isaacson, and other books like that. Would rather have someone’s neutral perspective who is a good judge of talent, character and skill etc.

My county has a library system and my city has a library system. I visited both and got the cards quick and easy. They’ve saved me tons of money.

Some books I like to buy for referencing or re-reading (Atomic Habits). Others I’ll read digitally from my Kindle through my library card.

But most books these days, I audiobook through my library for free, while working out or driving or sitting in a waiting room or something - books like Shoe Dog and Bog Iger’s biography are definitely Audiobooks.


If you have friends or family living in different cities, I’d ask them to get a library card so you can link to their Libby. Cities like NYC, Boston or any California city would have a vast library I bet. As for me, I’m already living in a big city so I feel no need to expand, but there’s definitely books I can’t find even with two library cards.
