I didn't really read seriously until 2014 or so, of course I had read many books up until then, but maybe like one or two a year. Now I always have something on the go and read daily. I picked up 5 used books at a store only a few weeks back and have read 3 already. I read 35 books last year, I believe.

I do prefer fiction, but read about history, politics, geography, culture and occasionally the economy (Thomas Sowell's Basic Economics is a good read...although takes a while).

I agree with OP, reading is good fun.

I've been taking a 3 month break from reading of late and was thinking I should get back to reading books. I still read a good amount each day though, reading news articles.

Can anyone tell me how to put spoilers around text? I have an excel file with ~200 books that I'll try copy and pasting for anyone interested. Mostly finance/psychology stuff.

I started reading for a while, maybe for about a year or two and stopped this past year because I was too tired from dead end jobs. Honestly it is great exercise for the mind, improves vocabulary, and trains your mind to visualize written concepts and look at different people's point of view. Really beneficial imo, and a great break from just constant dopamine scrolling.

Don't get why so many people are down on fiction, as long as its good stuff / classic stuff / art? Not some chitty airport page-turner.

Given humans don't agree on the fundamentals of barely anything, novels not based in reality are a good way to explore certain ideas?

Otherwise its chitty non-fiction "How i made a million bucks" self-help type crap, or History / Politics / Science (OK) type books?

This is a good point, there's a lot of usefulness in fiction, plus it's easier to read to relax for sleep. A balance seems best.

What are your favorite fiction books that fit this description for you?
