This is likely a bullchit stat.

You can't count the guys buying a fifth a day and straight up abusing their whole family, all while going to work every day and generally not causing problems. Except when they ram their car into someone one random day. or beat their wives to the point of hospitalization. Or neglect their kids till adulthood, springing them onto society with lacking social skills to repeat the cycle.

Seeing as though the goal of your campaign is to have people drink less

OK, so people drink less then all nightlife industries, social events, sports (&sports betting) all fall. And like I said, I bet quite a lot the restaurant industry would take a huge hit

Restaurants would stay but over time people are going to go out less which means those restaurants can't pay rent or have to minimize and that also means chit for the landlords

What do you have left. Is the goal for people to solely live in their homes and do nothing else?

LOL if those industries rely on people getting chitfaced, behaving irresponsibly, and being addicted to a dangerous drug, perhaps they should adopt a model more conducive to civilization. I am sure improving the metrics I listed is more important than the fraction of lost revenue from reduced alcohol consumption. You're legit anti informing people on behalf of protecting exploitative industry that effectively harms society. It's a hilariously stupid argument.

Are you unironically making the case that the current level of alcohol consumption is optimal for society? Even when you know its role in all the chit I mentioned in OP? Yes, less alcohol use is better for society. That is so obviously true, I'm amazed I have to demonstrate it. Again, I listed a huge list of what goes up if alcohol goes down.

What goes down? Some minor hit to restaurant and tourism income. People will still go out. They will still have a good time. And this isn't even a ban on alcohol. Just a reduction by informed decision making, and that is dangerous to you guys. That little dent in alcohol consumption is somehow something to really scrutinize and fear. Not the fuking DUIs, rapes, suicides, domestic violence, healthcare burden, etc. That. The fuking restaurants will lose some money. Wow. Ok.

You never even engage with people when they agree with you. You just ignore them while consistently choosing to wallow in the lowest of cesspool e-arguements with random miscers about literally everything, then find ways to try chitting on people who are try getting along with you at the first hint that they might not agree with you 100% about something.

The problem which OP is addressing isn't that people have a drink with their dinner or a drink while watching a game of sportsball at the stadium. The problems are with alcoholism. Having an ad campaign to reduce the incidence of beaten women, neglected children, drunk driver accidents, medical interventions, and lost productivity would be a net benefit for society.

I already pointed this out itt, but in the 1900's pre-prohibition era, Americans in general are thought to have been consuming 2 - 3x more alcohol than their modern counterparts are on average today. People began questioning whether it was actually normal for people to be drinking so much all the damn time, like a literal way of life. The camapaigns that literally lasted decades to get alcohol banned didn't just fall out of the sky one day.

Opie pretty clearly laid out a lot of the costs associated with alcohol use in this country. And while you make some points about the restaurant and/or nightlife industries, I don’t think the losses there come close to outweighing the benefits of reduced use. Also you would see an increase in productivity across the board, and the money not spent on alcohol would be spent on other things. Not to mention reduced healthcare costs/burdens, reduced insurance costs, reduced law enforcement and judicial system costs…the list goes on and on. So there would be tons of benefits to reducing alcohol intake across the board.

Also, do you seriously think that not drinking meaning sitting in your house all day doing nothing??

I fail to see your point. He is for an ad campaign. He isn't for banning it. You're bringing in the idea that this will reduce alcohol use (no duh), but that's kind of the point LMAO. At least problematic alcohol use. I don't think op is against people at sportsball games having a beer. Having a 6 pack a night causes undeniable damage to society in multiple ways tho. Having a beer or 2 with your meal or game or at da club isn't causing cirrhosis of the liver or a DUI crash, or cancer, or beaten wives, or neglected children, or lost productivity. I would say this is a decent idea, taking the idea of MADD and extending it to addressing those other issues.

Right. In the end, the overall tax burden related to alcohol issues is probably a lot more than whatever hit these people would see. The government could even shift healthcare and law enforcement costs they would have spent on that crap to subsidize restaurants and tourism if it were such an issue. It's just blatantly suboptimal.

Pretty much. A lot of people are really unaware of the role alcohol plays in these things. If more people didn't drink, our society would be way better off.

Fine then if you want to get real sciency the foundation of your idea has to rely on proving alcohol causes all of those things

Realistically your point lies in the overconsumption of said chemical as opposed to the chemical itself

Underlying the chemical itself has some inherent positive qualities as well

And an add campaign is fine, I don't think it would be effective, but sure, let's burn more money. The problem is OP would not stop with an ad campaign. When people like him (see Wincel's post history) do not see the results they want with advertisement..they move onto regulations..that's the problem. We see it over and over again with overreach of Government control.

That's a good point. Do I believe that you do nothing or that you cant do anything if you don't drink?

No.

My main point lies in all the indrirect consequences of op's point

So your plaza that holds your non-drinking chit goes down because it relies on the income generated from the restaurant in the same plaza

Nope. Let's not strawman. My point is that an ad campaign will help reduce those things in OP because alcohol is highly correlated or causally linked to all those things in OP. The cost of an ad campaign is very low. The benefits are very high.

You unironically are arguing that somehow the current level of alcohol use is a net benefit to society.

I've always thought about a type of checks system much like buying controlled OTC drugs like Ephedrine and whatnot.

You want to buy alcohol? Gotta scan your Driver's licence, you got a DUI? have been in Rehab multiple times? Been in alcohol fueled police interactions?

Too bad so sad.

Ngl I can't ****ing stand alcoholics, they are a plague on society
