how much water weight will I hold from creatine? (incels stay out pls)
Srs bb'ing thread on bb'ing forum
I have never bothered with Creatine in my life until the end of last year. Now i've gotten some body scan results before and after and I'm wondering about the results.
I started 5mg/day creatine in December, took the body scans in September and January.

So, I'm up 2.6 lb. of skeletal muscle mass, which is awesome. But I wonder how much is just water?
As I understand it, water that is in the muscles should be part of the extracellular water, which only increased 0.7 lb. Does this mean that I gained 2.6-0.7 = 1.9 lb. of actual muscle fibers? If so that would be wild in that time span, especially since I dropped 2.4 lb. of body fat.
Any body analysis nerds that can help me out? My muscle mass had been trending downward while cutting for months (from 91.7 lb. of muscle at 193.1 lb. of bodyweight) so I'm glad to see it going back up.
pics from around those time for reference
Spoiler!
I don't see a huge difference, but my arms, shoulders, and lats do look slightly juicier. Just glad that all the eating I did over the holidays didn't wreck my physique.

I’ve been traveling since December, and stopped taking daily creatine then. Within 2-3 weeks, I had already dropped about 12 pounds, presumably 90% was water weight.

I've wondered myself and tried to pay attention to how my weight changed when I went on or off creatine. It was still really hard for me to tell through the noise of daily fluctuations in bodyweight, but my best guess for myself is around 5 lb at 205 lb bodyweight.

I know it's not perfect but it's good for showing trends. Whether I'm 11.6% bf is surely up for debate but I think it's pretty sound that if my listed bf% goes down on the scan then my real bf% went down.
Lifts are a terrible way to judge how much muscle you have, CNS activity is significantly more important than muscle mass for strength.

I have no hard data to prove myself here.. however.. The last time I really gave creatine a chance it left me bloated AF and looking like complete $hit. I was up about 10lbs but it was all BS water weight. At this particular time in my life I was single and didnt give a fk about numbers on a scale , I needed panty scrubber abs & striations on my shoulders you could lay your fingers in... Never tried it again.

I'm also eating 1k cals over maintenance a day but I'm sure that has nothing to do with it.

Some glycogen and those transient factors. Increased phosphocreatine stores in the muscle. Possibly increases DHT in muscles. Studies are conflicting with creatine. Its clearly a complicated ergogenic aid.

If creatine can make you gain 10 lbs of water weight then would bodyweight workouts be harder ? Because when it comes to pull ups thats quite alot off weight to add over the corse of a week.

Now that I have witnessed enough Broscience... along with my own Bro Studies.
Allow to me to aware those who arent about Andrew Huberman , I read a few articles he had written on the subject & watched a few youtube clips he had posted. Now that I am a little older.. married.. and my focus has slightly shifted from being a huge shredded kent 24/7 to more of a sustainable & healthier approach to this lifestyle (still big & lean tho dont get it fkd up) Creatine has crept back into my radar and I may give it another go over a longer period of time and document the experiment to see if there are any real benefits to be had at this point or not
Video should be queued up at the right place... if not its at 1:45.00 for what we are discussing. If you have time the entire video is extremely informative from purely an information / facts driven standpoint.

I would say it depends on other dietary factors. I could 5mg creatine with minimum salt intake/high water and would not hold a lot. A lot of bloatedness I've seen comes from people loading 10-15mgs shoveling food down their throats

I'm not sure about percentages of 'real' muscle you've gained but surely you've gained some from creatine helping you get a few reps in than you couldn't before using it.

Always an easy 5lb gain at 5 grams/ day. No loading period. Never go longer than a 2 months I just don't like the bloat.
My lifts go up a ton though. Whatever I can do for 5 reps I can do for 10... Kinda insane for just creatine.

Never noticed any weight gain, bloating, or strength gains from creatine. Non-responder crew I guess.

Bench: 400x1
Deadlift: 575x1
OHP: 250x2
Weight: 180 lbs.

To be fair though, my total bodyweight isn't actually that different even if I'm holding more water. Traded it for fat.

10 lb. of pure water would be crazy, although nowhere near 205 lb. so I doubt it would be that much. Still my total body water only changed <3 lb. after a month of creatine. I wonder if it will go up more once I spend more time actually saturated.

Another bit of anecdotal info - when I started cutting again I hadn't yet started using creatine. I dropped from 182 to 177 in like 4 days (got rid of that holiday bloat), weight was just melting off. I started dosing creatine and my weight loss literally halted for like 2 full weeks, shot back up to 180 lb. and hovered there the whole time.
Point being I suspect that my water retention increased within a couple days of dosing creatine, didn't need to get saturated.

Not sure why you'd be upset about muscle mass gaining water you fuking moron. The vast majority of your skeletal muscle is quite literally water. Around 2 lb of that mass is water. Newsflash you derp, your muscles are made of cells. They carry water.

Everyone reacts to creatine differently. Creatine has no effect on me but most people it makes their BW jump. I wouldn’t think most of that jump would be muscle mass just judging by the amount of muscle you already have.

But creatine SHOULD affect extracellular water. That would include things like tissue fluid, which is used to distribute oxygen and nutrients to things like organs and muscles. It also includes blood plasma.
And both of those are distinct from actual muscle fibers, which should be the point of working out to gain muscle. Hypertrophy has two types - myofibrillar (growth of muscle) and sarcoplasmic (increase in glycogen storage). The former actually increase strength and speed, while the latter increases energy and endurance.
My question is essentially whether there's any way from the body scan to imply whether I've gained actual muscle fibers or if I'm just carrying more water in my muscles, increasing their mass. Either is a good thing, but I'd prefer actual muscle growth.

Nobody gains 10 lb of water in 1 week on creatine. God...u guys are like that copypasta.
On a cold Friday afternoon, I had come home from school. I had been thinking of the gym all day. I was hungry, didn't have any lunch. In fact, I didn't eat because I spent the money. For the past month I was saving up for something. Something special which I bought at GNC. I was surprised they didn't ask for ID; I was pretty sure the cashier noticed how nervous I was. Anyways, my mom asked my how my day was when I got home, but I ignored her. I have more important things to do. I run to the bathroom and unpack my bag. In my school bag is a white plastic bag from GNC. I open the bag, first removing the receipt and flushing it down the toilet to get rid of the evidence. My heart was racing now. I unpack the creatine monster from the bag.
I wonder what people will be asking me when they see that I will be 50lbs heavier. Should I say I was just eating a lot? I remove the label from the tub and tear it into a thousand small pieces. I flush that down the toilet, too. It is time now. I run up to my room when my mom ask me what I am holding. I panic, sweat drips down my forehead and my teeth chatter. "Mom, it's just for a school project". "What project?" "I don't know mom I just started it!". A tear runs down my cheek. I run upstairs and open the creatine, scooping upservings into a clear water bottle. What have I gotten myself into? I fill it with water and drink it. There is no turning back now. The creatine monster is inside me now, it will control me. What should I do if I die? I cant let my family know about this.
I open the creatine tub and throw it all out the window; a white cloud of mysterious dust sparkles into the wind so graciously. I feel the substance taking control of me; I am now the monster. I walk downstairs, its time to work out; time to get big. Now I worry, I don't want to get too big; people will think I use steroids. I do use steroids. No I don't. Creatine. All I see is the weights now, I am almost downstairs when I hear "Do you want a cookie I just baked". I know I do not have time for this **** now. "No mom I do not want a cookie" I walk in the basement and drop to my knees before the weights, tears running down my cheeks. I turn to the right and look at myself in the mirror. Oh god, what have I done?
