Squat twice a week because I am not a pussy.
Can't back squat? Front squat extremely important for athletics, hell get some olympic lifts in.

I've quit doing the big three and TBH I feel and look better. They are just really fatiguing on your CNS/skeletal/muscular system. Unnecessarily so. Especially as you get older. Furthermore, while they make you strong/powerful. Those movements really aren't that practical for day to day life/strength.
When it comes to training legs I have a few favorites that I think are ideal. Plan on doing them into my old age to stay healthy/athletic. I like to train legs 2x per week so I don't have a ton of volume/exercises at one time: Basically 2 of the below exercises. 1 calf exercise and 1 cardio/conditioning exercise.
-Bulgarian Split Squat or Lunge.
-Romanian dead-lift or leg curl or hip thrust.
-Leg extension or DB/Sandbag front squats. (15-20 rep sets at end of workout).
For calves I stick to 15-20 rep ranges for 4-5 sets. No need to go too heavy. Focus on stretch at bottom with a pause and squeezing during peak contraction at top. For conditioning work on leg day dragging/pushing a sled or hill sprints.
I thought I was strong/athletic squatting/dead-lifting big weights. But it takes up so much time to warm up/get ready for working sets. Then fatigues you for the rest of the workout. Furthermore when I tried a Bulg Split Squat or a Lunge I discovered my balance was **** and my strength was weak as hell in that position.
Front squats look something like the below for reference.

Squatting doesn't make you athletic. Athletic people are good at squat. Stop confusing the two.

an elite football player is elite regardless of whether he chooses to squat or do leg presses, because neither has any sort of real in game impact on his performance. show me a scientific study or real world proof where higher squat # translate to higher performance. You can't, because they do not correlate in any meaningful way.
Sprinting and all its variation will forever be superior to squat for any athletic event/performance.

F*ck up my knees every time, hurts the joint the next day a lot.
Terrible back issues.
Recently found out long femur and Short torso make the standard squat really difficult and near impossible with good form.
So I discover KOT (knees over toes) and its changed my entire life.

The hype around squatting is so cringy. I lift for recreation and to stay in shape, I can do that without burning out my cns on full body lifts

Squatting makes you stronger, not more athletic. You're either athletic or you're not.

squatting absolutely increases muscle force and power of the muscle groups best correlated with performance, quads, hamstrings, glutes and is shown to relate to athletic skills such as vertical jump and sprint speed.

We know it makes no significant difference at the high level because if it did, a powerchitter would be out there breaking the 100m sprint record because of their "force output" even though we know "powerlifting" is a misnomer.
I'm willing to bet a 100m sprinter who trains sprinting 100% of the time will have better result than sprinter B who trains sprint 50% of the time and the other 50% he's doing heavy squat.

It does not even build the muscles right.
You get like a weirdly large ass with no real strength the way humans use muscles. Upper thighs instead of lower where the muscle we use is most developed, also.

Most people I know don't understand: Just because you can lift a weight doesn't mean it isn't too heavy for you.
I can lift way more with ****ty form, even if I am inviting injury.
Squat is one of the more complex movements you can do.
Here's an example:
When I try squatting too heavy my dominant leg takes over.
I've been working for a few years trying to bring my left leg up in terms of coordination and ability to generate force.
My left leg is just starting to catch up.
Same with things like balance, anchoring, flexibility etc.
Those things take a long time to build up, and squatting uses all of them.
Squat is one exercise where you don't wanna go in there and start trying to move a bunch of weight around.
Obviously do a challenging weight, but not to where your form suffers.
The billionaire and the beggar both have 24 hours in a day.

go google post activation potential and how squatting heavy can lead to improved athletic performance. also most S&C gyms do all those movements listed, PS nordic curls are actually better at injury prevention than athletic performance.
there's a reason why naturally gifted athletes coming fresh outta HS generally redshirt a year with minimal playing time as a freshman, and its to ge those 2 years of S&C under their belt so they can actually compete at a high Level.

Eh I like squats, and they absolutely do increase explosiveness and athleticism. Pretending otherwise is retarded.
It's deadlifts which I don't bother with, since I get a one way ticket to snap city every time I do them.
