1500 is too much for a sound bar. 1500 is great for an entry level 2.0, that can be build into a full surround whenever he gets out of the apartment.
denon receiver for 500
https://www.amazon.com/Denon-AVR-S76..._t1_B09QK54CRK
two floor standing speakers, on sale actually
https://www.crutchfield.com/p_714RP6...ny.html?tp=185
then when hes ready to move into a home one day half of his surround sound system is already built and he just has to grab a center and surround channels. and the receiver is atmos capable if he wants to throw a few in his ceiling or simply use a 7.1.
personally i'll never get another sound bar, i tried an 800 dollar vizio sound bar and it was so abysmal it took me only like 3 weeks to replace it with these which sound absolutely stunning for music. i know the sonos does indeed blow the one i tried out of the water, but at a price point that's too much IMO.
https://www.crutchfield.com/p_714600...II-Walnut.html
but to be fair not everyone is as into audio as i am so if you are fine with a soundbar then who am i to judge. audio can be a deep rabbit hole.

For the people commenting on the high price, I'm Canadian, we are cucked by a communist leader and a TERRIBLE exchange rate, as well as inflation, so that leads to everything costing 100x more than it does in the U.S.
And for all the people saying that 55" is tiny and I need to get some massive 100" TV or I'll be miserable, I am not someone who sits 50 feet back from my TV, I hate that chit. I've been a PCcel my entire life, I'm used to gaming at a desk with my monitor 2 feet in front of me, I don't like gaming on a MASSIVE TV, I like being fairly up close.

I got two new TVs. A Samsung QLED(basically LED) and LG OLED. Both TVs are high end and despite what nerds say are both extremely great TVs. Far better than what your average person will use, and there's no clear winner because each has their advantages and drawbacks.
So here's the thing. Based on your uses for the TV: a mix of gaming, sports, regular TV and movies... As well as the lighting situation in your room I do not suggest an OLED TV. It's probably an entertainment area for your gf and family/friends to enjoy so you don't want to baby your set.
I would get the most affordable Hisense or TCL that support these: 65" (trust me), 4K LED (basically non-OLED), 120hz and HDMI 2.1 port.
As for sound, I'd take freeburner's advice with the speaker setup.
Edit OP look at the price of this Sony that has all the specs I mentioned. 2022 model for $898 ho lee.

Once again I don't know chit but from my google sessions, isn't mini-LED a step up from regular LED?
The 65" Sony you posted is the same price as this TCL, but I definitely tend to trust Sony over a brand like TCL or HiSense.

I just upgraded to a 65" Samsung S95B (dark room), you would need an (A) for $1,800 and its one of the best i have owned besides an old plasma.
No way in hell i would spend 1500 on a bar.
Denon has some great receivers, the new S series just came out. I have a x4300h but you dont need something that size.
Tower speakers can be picked up at a reasonable price determined by what you think sounds good.
I went all out when i got a house on a Klispch setup
Also check out accessories4less website

A Sonos Beam Gen2 is like $600 (under $500 on sale).

You could try it out in your space and see if its enough for your apartment. You can return it if it's not adequate for you. The setup is clean and doesn't take up much footprint, otherwise your living space will be looking cluttered AF like this:

I have a 55" sony bravia with a samsung soundbar with bluetooth remote satellite speakers and a separate subwoofer in my living room that sounds great and doesn't take up much space. It's probably over kill for an apartment and will definitely make the neighbors hate you if you want it to.
Granted for my man cave I bought an 86" LG thinQ TV (at Costco) and a 7.2 surround system. I have a 12" sub behind the TV and a 10" sub behind the couch. Right now I just have small separate speakers for the rest of the setup, I really want to invest in some towers for the fronts but I am working on other projects right now and with the subs they're good enough.
It's nice to have stuff that will integrate with Alexa or whatever home assistant you use, and also make sure you use hdmi-arc. It's a great signal and ties everything together with your TV controls, no need for separate remotes except for initial setup.

Looks thicc, solid, tight, joocy.
However rtings.com says this about it in comparison to the Hisense U8H. And the U8H is actually cheaper.
"The Hisense U8H is much better than the Sony X90K. The Hisense has much better reflection handling, and it gets significantly brighter, so it's a better choice for a bright viewing environment as it can better overcome glare. The Hisense delivers a more impactful HDR experience, as it gets significantly brighter in HDR and can display a wider color gamut."
Fuark this is such a hard decision.
I have like 30 TVs saved on a google doc right now and I'm pretty close to just throwing a dart at my monitor and seeing where it lands.

Now here's another option, really good reviews and cheap as chit.

If the X90K doesn't, personally I'd go X90K. Beyond that question it's a simple tradeoff compassion, the X90K will have better motion handling and reliability but the U8H will beat out the X90K in almost all picture quality metric specs. The X90K definitely seems to have better reviews than the X85K.

You'd be playing roulette on Longevity with the Hisense. I've read too many stories about them failing within a few years. Just make sure you got good extended warranty, I guess.

Hisense is fine if you play Nintendo switch ducked which I know many of us alpha playas in this sub forum do.
Ps5 you need a really really obscenely expensive high end brand to use it. More hassle than it’s worth compared to playing Nintendo at its best settings! 👍

Like I said take mgftps advice. He pays more attention to mid range televisions than I ever will because I'm just beyond that point in my life.
But sure bro if you want to brag about moving into your first rented apartment that's great. Congrats. I remember how exciting it was for me too. When you get a house and are able to or want to afford a higher tier of audio/video consumerism, I'll chime back in with my advice. Til then, ask mgftp about hisense.

If you are playing on PS5, make sure to check this compatibility list for VRR
https://www.reddit.com/r/PS5/comment..._for_ps5_2022/
some TVs will turn off local dimming when VRR is on. And some will just be a juttering mess like Vizio
