It won't. They can blast as much as they want out there but it's just a sci fi nightmare. It's unsustainable for actual businesses.

There are plenty of smart humans with the ability to do jobs, but no human can compute as fast as AI. Thats where you or noone can compete. Thats why its going to be more efficient to automate jobs of accountants and data entry clerks than to sit a body in a chair to do the work. A human body that needs a salary and vacation time and 15 minute breaks, and sick days and can only work 8 hours in a day. Why would a company put up with that when they can spend a one-time fee of $100k or something for some high end AI unit to do the work of three men around the clock? The only human they'd need to hire is some gig contracted technician to come around once per month to do some re-calibrate testing to see if the work is accurate or some chit, and they're good to go for another month of uninterrupted work.
So rote jobs will be obsolete. So what? Maybe you'll have to transition to a society where people don't have to do those kinds of jobs. Also, the idea of us competing with China is laughable. It's impossible. In the long run, China will win.

So a vp decides he can replace his department with AI. But that AI is going to eventually replace him as well. And ultimately these companies will be fully AI. People have said that executives and what not will still be human but that would be impossible because you need experience to get there and you won't be able to get experience because all the lower jobs are gone. And for this to continue to happen, the government will have to step in and do UBI,but now where is that money coming from since no one has a job. All corporate taxes which means taxing the machines only...
And who is going into governement or the limited select jobs that can't be automated when they don't have to do anything anymore?

With everyone on UBI, it destroys our consumer based economy that these same businesses that want to move to AI have been working to build - it's ultimately not in their best interest.

AI will replace some jobs but most businesses are not going to be as quick to replace thier workforce as some think. It's the same as robotics on manufactuing lines - we are well behind where people expected us to be there even as robots have become increasing more sophisticated and have quicker ROIs. But businesses haven't embraced it as much as was predicted.

What does the economy mean when robots and AI provide all the goods and services we need and are largely self-sustaining?

First of all there is a tradeoff. Robots are expensive and will not be cheaper than labor for most things. Second, it just means we will transition to other kinds of jobs. People would make art and sell it, play videogames, do onlyfans, write books, play songs, study and teach, etc. We would need a society that provides more social support for the masses. But otherwise, it's fine. Technology is supposed to make life easier for people.

AI has a major limitation: it cannot create anything novel, it can only extrapolate new things from existing data. Hence, while it might be really good at doing all sorts of stuff, there won't be any true innovation...unless of course it somehow becomes self-aware and then at that point it's no longer AI but something else.

can you quantify your first statement. I don't doubt that's the case right now, but eventually there's going to be robots that do most things better than humans. Society is not prepared. UBI will be a huge talking point in 2025 and beyond. Basically the self-declared slobs and intellects like yourself, will get paid to sit at home and not contribute to society. Eventually robots are going to make sense everywhere, eventually the government will have to regulate corporations, or the future is dark. Very dark. Lol @ thinking a robot is more expensive over the long term. Robots will not get pregnant, call off, get fat and lazy, or require health insurance.

Just like how computers and smart phones got rid of a lot of industries but also opened up new ones. Chit changes bruhs, just gotta keep adapting. Just because demand for Cobal programmers dropped doesn’t mean we don’t need other kids of work done. You doomers have some retard-level ignorance of history.

We will have like 12 billion humans on Earth. People need remarkably little compared to a robot. And there aren't enough resources to build tons of robots to replace humans. What do you mean not contribute? People participate in society. I teach btw. You should look at the economics of robotics and what goes into making a robot.

I can assure you I am far more educated than you btw. Would you like to take a quiz? I can design one to test elementary understanding of biology, chemistry, physics, and math for you. Let's see if you are as brilliant as you seem to think you are.

It's also easy for me to come up with questions you won't be able to solve with AI or find online.

To a certain point, all novelty is an extrapolation from prior information.

Except it's actually not. There's something fundamentally different about humans that cannot be explained by a simple examination of biology. More than the sum of the parts.

Lol you're a fukin teacher? You're a substitute making $100/day. If you are teaching our youth we are doomed.

I have an engineering degree. It's cute you know like useless 6th grade biology vocabulary and chemistry, but let me know when you pass the FE. Which you can't even take without an engineering degree from an accredited program.

You're a legit fuking retard. I mog you in anything practical. You're going to know more useless ****. It's like me saying let me conjure up a quiz of calculus and thermodynamics, which your dumbass would fail miserably in. Now which is more practical?

That's where you're wrong.

AI only needs massive data in the beginning stages, it will and does create novel things, not just extrapolations. Watch the latest interviews with Open AI ceo and many others. We're slowly getting out of these beginning stages...

It's always cute when an engineer thinks he "mogs" me because he barely understands anything. The fact that you think calc and "thermodynamics" (did you even take stat mech or non equilibrium stat mech? lol have you worked through Schroeder or Pathria like I have?) tells me all I need to know. I have taught those courses at highly respected universities. You're not even worth any effort.

I don't blame them. A few years ago I was clueless too and didn't believe the hype.

I've been working with Ai since the 90s (ded srs)

The only reason it hasn't taken over before is infrastructure and processing power. Both those things are now reaching the tipping point. Anyone who thinks "AI can't do math" is clueless. White Collar jobs have only been around for 70 years. And there's been massive turnover with them due to lesser technology. The notion that AI won't replace all of these jobs is cope to the max level. The safest jobs are tradie jobs, because AI can't do manual labor....yet.

All those gig economy workers like uber drivers will be replaced soon by teslas on autopilot. Call center employees will all be wiped out within the next 2-3 years. Teachers should also be eliminated soon since online school is far superior and more convenient. What is the point of having physical schools anymore when you can just take an online class? Stock traders are already almost entirely replaced by computer programs. Trucks driver should be eliminated soon. Not sure why we still have accountants?

Im a software developer and on my IDE it already has AI that predicts the next line of code you are going to write.

Literally don't know what "novel" means in this instance...AI cannot create something without a starting point. All that data qualifies. A HUMAN can make new data out of whole cloth, that is the difference.

AI can do pretty much everything humans can do as long as it has a decent starting point. As I already said, once it evolves into the next step (not what we'd call AI, maybe actual intelligence? I dunno) we are seriously ****ed big time.

Literally have a published paper evaluating foundation models, but okay.

This is why I cannot take anything on the internet seriously. Confirmation bias is so incredibly high the people who have a marginal understanding of a subject act like someone who has more knowledge is retarded because it doesn't match their conclusions.
