for sure
why would anyone not involved in pro sport want to lift heavy weights potentially tearing muscles and putting strain on their joints just to "look good"?

Some people just enjoy lifting weights, it feels good, it's hard work but it gets your endorphins going.
So much marketing and business is based around making people feel insecure, but people enjoy playing sports and lifting weights.
I know it might seem strange, but some people enjoy putting in work in the gym or being professional athletes.
Anything worth doing in life requires struggle and adversity, being a mindless consumer does not.

As a hobby, if not for pursuing a change in one's appearance (body dysmorphia) -- I bet 95% of people that currently lift weights wouldn't be doing it. Let's face it -- picking **** up over and over for a decade is boring as hell. But in the pursuit of a competitive advantage in sports -- ok. In the pursuit of changing one's body shape -- mentally disturbed.
Was it a biological reality that women mated throughout most of modern history without men giving a flying fuuuk about weight lifting? At one time being fat was the desirable body shape. At one time it was being skinny.
The whims of women change all the time. Don't be a beta male that caters to those whims and adopts body dysmorphia to please modern women. Their wet hole ain't worth all that.

I think it's all a form of body dysmorphia that society turns a blind eye to. Like a mass delusion.
Shouldn't a person be happy with how their body naturally looks and performs instead of chasing some idealized form?
Now if you're like the old people that hit up the gym to just maintain muscle mass and joint health...that's something different.

Physical exercise, which improves your health and your attractiveness, is one of the most healthy things you can do.
Survival is a competition, so is mating, and being physically fit makes it a lot easier to survive and reproduce.
You want to gaslight or otherwise diminish the accomplishments of all these physically successful people.
If you don't even understand the appeal of lifting weights then why are you on a bodybuilding forum?
It just seems like sour grapes from seeing physically fit people and wanting to put them down.
So that you can feel better about yourself by putting down hypothetical people who enjoy lifting weights and getting strong and do not think about you at all.

Hence why I said the normalization of mental disturbances in modern society. People are literally crazy now and it's just normal.
Do you not think human bodies evolved to naturally look how they look with women mating with men all along the way? If this idealized body dismorphic body that people chase through weight training was always the preferred body type for female mating than why don't modern men look like apes with much more muscle naturally?
Why does a man doing natural stuff that humans have done for eons like hunting for food or farming just look like a normal dude that gym bros would ask "do you even lift"?
If you need to scare off potential attackers -- take your chances with a sidearm. Lifting weights as defense leaves a lot of room for things to go wrong out in the wild.
What does a normal man need to pick up and put down? Throughout human evolution what have men needed to pick up and put down?
This sounds like bro logic you've given.

Physical exercise will improve one's health. But wanting to change one's body shape through regimented lifting of weights and religiously dieting isn't necessarily the same thing.
What is physically fit? A person can play full court basketball 4 days a week and be physically fit. And that's the rub -- a lot of people will mask their body dysmorphia with claiming they want to be physically fit. So you have men packing down obscene amounts of protein and religiously lifting weights and critiquing every body part claiming they are just trying to be physically fit. Bullsheet. It's a mental disturbance.
Don't be afraid to critique your own thoughts even if it means questioning everything you once believed.

The clinical definition is a mental illness where you must do it ........while in reality 95% of the gym attendees just show up at the gym and hang out.

If we're being honest, everyone wants to look good, not just women. Men that are too lazy to exercise but describe working out as femine pursuit, are just jealous of guys with good physiques.

A man that simply exercises as a byproduct of things he likes to do may have a certain degree of leanness and added muscle but he's not going to look like what men with dysmorphia are chasing with their regimented well researched muscle building routines, diets and supplements.

I had this discussion elsewhere and someone insightfully put it like this:
For hundreds of years, Brazilian businessmen lamented "If only we could get those billions of Chinese to drink coffee instead of tea, we would be rich."
For decades, big businessmen lamented, "If only we could get millions of American men to be as vain as women, we would be rich."
Women spent millions on beauty products, but for most post-WWII men, all their grooming gear still fit in the little kit bag they were issued while in the service: A razor, shaving cream, a toothbrush, tooth paste, a comb, and a nail clipper. In the 1950s, a tube of Brylcream was added.
A big breakthrough was getting post 1970s men to buy hairspray, once long hair and a variety of hair styles became acceptable.
But nothing was a lucrative as the fitness industry Arnold Schwarzenegger inspired. A generation of WWII veterans who had jumped into Normandy, stormed Omaha Beach, or fought on Iwo Jima, and then came home to work physically demanding, blue collar jobs for the next 30 years had no reason to doubt their physicality.
Their sons and grandsons, however, their hands baby soft from from jerking off a pencil all day, or tapping away at keyboards in air conditioned offices were very susceptible. These were hands that did not swing hammers, turn wrenches, or pull rope. These were men who never staggered under a heavy back pack, dig a trench or a foxhole, run five miles in boots, or beat a diesel engine into submission.
These were the customers for every charlatan selling a gym membership, a diet plan, bath gel, expensive sneakers, or athletic clothing.
When you convince men that they must preen like peacocks to get female attention, you have tapped into a market that is willing to pay you anything. When men must become as decorative as women, they will spend like women.

Well fear not. Out of my 8 high school friends at a recent dinner this week I am the only one that still lifts.
Most do it in high school and college and a few years after college then poof. Wife and kids ruins any chance at obsession and dismorphic tendencies.

Bump for you fragile males out there obsessed with muscles and protein thinking your life will change.
Get help bros. Just because the masses accept being mentally disturbed doesn't mean you do.
I'm a retired person with more time to think while having a young mind than anyone on the planet. That's how I figured this out.

Not really. Working out gives you a body that your ancestors had from having a physically active lifestyle. Even now despite not having seriously worked out in years, my body retains some muscle. Just doing a bit of yard work chisels out these natural guns.

This is how the average man is supposed to look without serious bodybuilding. But we have all the processed food and plastic in water that ruins our outer image. Men aren't supposed to look like stick figures or have dad bods. srs

How many drinks is too much, how many days a week?

The main problem is that most men don't understand what Chad actually looks like.
What men think Chad Looks Like

What Chad actually looks like/What women think Chad looks like

THIS IS THE ABSOLUTE UPPER LIMIT OF ACTUAL CHAD'S MUSCULARITY, MASS, LOWEST BODYFAT, ETC
