This is no doubt going to be a big drop, and easily Nintendo's highlight game of the year, but at the same time it feels like this could be one of the last big drops for the Switch. It definitely feels like a console that is badly in need of an upgrade or some sort of successor, something with 4K docking capability with improved handheld performance. Having a console that isn't 4K capable in this day and age is just noncompetitive in today's home gaming scene, so it's getting clear how the handheld capability is what has been sustaining the Switch lately. I think Metroid Prime 4 is the only really big name sequel coming after this.
As for me, while I enjoyed BotW, it's a game that I never completed or even got particularly far in. Like I was playing it for a while, then I kept getting distracted by other games, and it's been on my backlog ever since. For that reason I am in no rush to go out and buy this game, although I do think I will eventually get it simply as an essential late Switch title.

Botw was a snoozefest. Best Zeldas are more linear with an actual story and dungeons.

540p 25-30fps gameplay in 2023
Amazing
started the game, noticed it was "open world" with a ton of time wasting mechanics
no thanks jeff LOL

Skyrim had that problem. Once you get the best weapons in the game, everything else was just trash and casted aside, but with breakable weapons, in a pinch, you may have to rely on that crappy rusted blade or wooden bow until you can find something better.

Here it is. I’m not watching but heard it was good
The original had almost 3x as many pixels as that

I thought it was just going to be "Breath of the Wild with some sky islands DLC", but this looks completely re imagined.
It looks great.
Now all I need to do is find the time to play it.

I have such mixed feelings about this. 30 years of zelda for me and this doesn't feel like zelda anymore... It looks like it will be a great game, much better than botw, but it lost the zelda feeling somehow

Ultimately if they kept everything they did with botw but also had significantly more structured dungeons, i probably would have loved the game
The pipe dream is they go the 2-game route that pokemon went. Pokemon Arceus (ie botw) for new concepts and then the mainline pokemon red/blue -> black/white -> etc (ie ocarina of time, windwaker, twilight pricess, etc)

i didnt get past the intro for TP it was too boring herding the goats and catching the fish, beat the remaster for wii u, SS sucked anus with the controls didnt even make it to the first dungeon
i enjoyed botw put over 100 hrs in it, i enjoyed the freedom to approach a situation, you can can watch 10 people tackle the same objective and they will all do it differently, that is the magic of BOTW

I know most people miss the traditional dungeons, but the shrines felt like mini dungeons to me.

they all felt more like 3D puzzles than (mini-)dungeons to me
the empty overworld and complete absence of themed dungeons made it give 0 Zelda vibes
and that's even not saying it's a bad game per se
