This is no doubt going to be a big drop, and easily Nintendo's highlight game of the year, but at the same time it feels like this could be one of the last big drops for the Switch. It definitely feels like a console that is badly in need of an upgrade or some sort of successor, something with 4K docking capability with improved handheld performance. Having a console that isn't 4K capable in this day and age is just noncompetitive in today's home gaming scene, so it's getting clear how the handheld capability is what has been sustaining the Switch lately. I think Metroid Prime 4 is the only really big name sequel coming after this.

As for me, while I enjoyed BotW, it's a game that I never completed or even got particularly far in. Like I was playing it for a while, then I kept getting distracted by other games, and it's been on my backlog ever since. For that reason I am in no rush to go out and buy this game, although I do think I will eventually get it simply as an essential late Switch title.

Botw was a snoozefest. Best Zeldas are more linear with an actual story and dungeons.

Yeah, that would definitely be one of my main complaints along with the weapon destruction. I think that's why BotW could never hold my attention for long, it's just too similar to all the open world action games out there.

Zero interest here unless they use this to announce a Switch Pro version of the game. I cancelled my pre-order for the Zelda OLED switch.

Bought a switch just for botw. Absolutely will not buy this because of how dog chit the first one was. Will wait until my library has it and check it out for free

I always think it's funny that BoTW fans trash other Open World games as being generic when their precious BoTW does "Ubisoft towers" more than other games.

15 sheikah towers
120 shrine dungeons
900 collectible seeds lolol

Yeah, not repetitive at all!!

IDK I don't get the hate for the breakable weapons. t forces you to use weapons you otherwise would never use. It makes you improvise.

Skyrim had that problem. Once you get the best weapons in the game, everything else was just trash and casted aside, but with breakable weapons, in a pinch, you may have to rely on that crappy rusted blade or wooden bow until you can find something better.

I completely disagree. Botw and Elden Ring are two of the only open world games i can think of that aren’t just a giant checklist map, and leave you to explore and discover on your own.

Yep same,

I thought it was just going to be "Breath of the Wild with some sky islands DLC", but this looks completely re imagined.

It looks great.

Now all I need to do is find the time to play it.

Nintendo often keeps their cards close to their chest.

I was always lol’ing at people who were pretending this was just gonna be a copy/paste job or “muh 6 years for dlc?!?!?”

I have such mixed feelings about this. 30 years of zelda for me and this doesn't feel like zelda anymore... It looks like it will be a great game, much better than botw, but it lost the zelda feeling somehow

without a doubt. Maybe I'm rigid in my thoughts on what a zelda gameshouldbe but these lost that feel. Somehow I was able to play 20+ years of very formulaic zelda games and not get remotely tired of them so I don't really think they needed to re-invent it as much as they did.

Ultimately if they kept everything they did with botw but also had significantly more structured dungeons, i probably would have loved the game

The pipe dream is they go the 2-game route that pokemon went. Pokemon Arceus (ie botw) for new concepts and then the mainline pokemon red/blue -> black/white -> etc (ie ocarina of time, windwaker, twilight pricess, etc)

Twilight Princess and especially Skyward Sword were not as well received as they expected which is why they changed the formula.

This is going to be great boss. I am fully aroused over this.

Zelda tears of the kingdom > gow ragnorak > Elden ring

My prediction anyway

they changed the formula because it got stale in my opinion, go to dungeon get compass, get item, get boss key, defeat boss with item. repeat
i didnt get past the intro for TP it was too boring herding the goats and catching the fish, beat the remaster for wii u, SS sucked anus with the controls didnt even make it to the first dungeon
i enjoyed botw put over 100 hrs in it, i enjoyed the freedom to approach a situation, you can can watch 10 people tackle the same objective and they will all do it differently, that is the magic of BOTW

SS and Spirit tracks are the only Zelda games I bought and never finished. I quit SS fairly early because of the controls and the super easy feeling. I loved BOTW and how the shrines were optional, but incentivized you to do them.

I know most people miss the traditional dungeons, but the shrines felt like mini dungeons to me.

did all the shrines and got all divine beasts

they all felt more like 3D puzzles than (mini-)dungeons to me

the empty overworld and complete absence of themed dungeons made it give 0 Zelda vibes

and that's even not saying it's a bad game per se
