- Brosnan was entertainment to the max, he had one absolute masterpiece, one stinker and 2 decent flicks
Connery is still the GOAT Bond.

But Craig made Bond more "real" and human, also a more brutish Bond. Casino Royale was amazing, rest of his movies sucked but that's not his fault

agreed it started out alright with CR, but since everything after was 100% trash it's hard to even acknowledge Craig as Bond

that ultimate slap in the face in the last one just made it easy to completely ignore his movie line

and with the current state of things in the movie industry I somehow doubt what we're still to get will be anything worthwhile

They were good other than DaD, and that had its moments too. The news mogul Rupert Murdoch villain wanting to start a war in TND was way ahead of its time

for the plane sequence of course they didn't catch the actual plane but a brah did ride off that clip with a motorcycle and did a freefall f.e.

THE PLANE

LAMONT: There was an amazing glass shot that Derek Meddings did, of the mountains. We shot down on to the runway. They built a model and we photographed the model, and then cut away where the runway was, so when you saw the runway it was the real thing with the plane running up. It was all done that way. There was hardly any digital stuff in those days. That was real filmmaking!

MICHAEL G WILSON (PRODUCER): The motorcycle jump was again done in Switzerland. We built the ramp in the fall, and then we had to wait until it snowed. We had Jacques Malnuit go off on his motorbike and open his parachute. We did that for real. Every time they had just enough petrol in the tank so they’d literally run out of gas when they ran off, for ecological reasons because they didn’t want to damage the environment. Then in the spring, when the thaw came, we went down and retrieved all the motorbike parts. That stunt started in the fall with building the ramp and ended in the spring with picking up the pieces.

CAMPBELL: I think Jacques went over that 6000 foot drop or whatever it was about seven times. What a ridiculous job! That whole sequence was about putting Bond in a situation where you wonder how he can possibly escape. There’s a bloody cliff at the end of the runway, so what the **** does he do? That’s the thing. Put him in impossible situations all the time. I did have concerns that skydiving into a crashing plane was going too far, to be honest, but we actually considered doing it for real at one point.

CORBOULD: Everybody thought it was it was unbelievable, but in actual fact it was possible for that particular type of plane. I remember it was a Pilatus Porter, and they could feather the blades or something, to actually get it down into a really slow speed. So, in theory, he could have got in.

CAMPBELL: We worked out that if you put a reverse prop on that plane, and you had enough drop, you could actually achieve that stunt. But that rapidly went out the window! It is pushing believability to the limit...

good interview but it makes my point perfectly. It couldnt be practically done, so why on earth include it in the movie

btw, the Dalton movies tanked at the box office leading to that long gap to GE. LtK was legit, not quite up with Moore at his best but way ahead of anything that came after

None of the Bond movies were a flop, the Dalton movies might not have made as much as Moore or Connery, but they were still successful.

People voted that LTK was the "darkest" Bond movie.

I was extremely sad when Dalton's Bond skied down a hill on a cello.

I saw that film in the theater and probably haven't watched it since.

The following one was him vs a drug dealer. So, that lacked the epic quality of other films, on top of that the drug dealer was a TV character actor who played the same role in every film.

You are such a sensitive loser type, lol.

Also, a ****git.

James Bond would not get so emotionally disturbed.

Have you checked out Peewee Herman films?

He's probably a better role model for you.

Skyfall as heinously dumb.

Bond and an old lady fight off squads of death soldiers with a couple of guns inside an old house....

That and the song from Adele where she sings "Skyfall" over and over with a Connery lisp...ShhhhKY fuulll...ShhhkKy FUUULLL....over and over.

just lol at using an internet rating system to evaluate a movie series that started in 1962

I'm sure that's not causing any bias there, right?

You the mean the song that won an Oscar lol?! It actually got 5 nominations, which is higher than any other film in the franchise. Sam Mendes is a great director and they had Roger Deakins on cinematography and Thomas Newman doing the score. Overall a top notch Bond film imo.

Modern bias?! Dr No and Goldfinger were released in the early 60s.

youre an idiot

its the difference between being released to generation x/y who grew up with the internet, and EVERYTHING before it.

Its not unreasonable to say goldfinger/frwl are better than anything by Moore or Dalton, even if I dont personally agree

recent movies always get into the imdb top 250 before disappearing. So will CR and skyfall, they are nonsense

Quantum of Solace and Spectre are modern and got panned by critics and movie goers. Casino Royale and Skyfall are both technically very well made.

True quality in the franchise always gets recognised, just look at GoldenEye and The Spy Who Loved Me.

I don't actually mind the Roger Moore films btw. Whilst most people hated it, I liked The Man with the Golden Gun. Love Christopher Lee and that crafty midget.

Anyway, just trying to counter the hate that Daniel Craig always gets in these threads. Always been a fan since Layer Cake.

Last Pierce Brosnan Bond film -> First Daniel Craig film was a 4 years gap.

Time to Die was 2021, so perhaps 2025 for the next film with the new lead.

But I'd bet they're waiting to announce the new cast, actually film it, and release trailers, because they're assessing the social climate for whether or not the new Bond should be a white male with some misogyny, or something else for once... and if the plot should have woke highlights or not. Perhaps Top Gun: Maverick's success might've served as a wake up call to not nose dive into woke LGBTQ story telling.

tbf I don't think Craig himself gets hate, he just got dealt 4 out of 5 absolute trash movies

with decent scenario's and a more classic 007 vibe it could've been a solid Bond line

Controversial opinion:

They should change chit up MASSIVELY between Bonds.

Why?

It’s a series that spans 20+ films, and by keeping to tightly held ideas of who/how Bond is or what’s “true to the books”, you run the risk of massive repetition and the series become stale… which is EXACTLY what has happened.

You might have also noticed that the first film where a new Bond actor is introduced is usually the best and all the subsequent sequels (with the same actor) are chit. So, my suggestion would be to have a new actor play Bond with every film; this will help give each film it’s own distinct flavour.

That's a good point about the first films being the good one.

What is means is that the owners KNOW how to make good films but then must hire sh!tty writers and keep budgets low for future films. They hook you with a good product then follow up with crappy products.

The first Craig film was pretty good, all the following sucked and were stupid, then the last Craig movie was pretty good.

It's not Bond that's a bad character, it's the writers that suck.

For instance, Tom Cruise makes James Bond films, but calls them Mission Impossible. The films have nothing to do with the TV show Mission Impossible, that was a psyc ops team. Cruises' films are his Jame Bond and they are better than any modern Bond film.

That's because they have actual plots and good writing. So, whoever owns Bond does not want to pay for writers, so you get jewish action comedies and old ladies with machine guns instead of solid writing.

I see MI the same way. It's arguably better than Bond lately, although different. I like that they have a team as well. It's cool to see a one man show, but also pretty unrealistic. Not that these movies are very realistic...
