There are a few parallels.
The majority of US troops left both countries years prior, the final evacuations marked the end of the war. Time will tell with Afghanistan but hopefully they find the relative peace that Vietnam has.

At the time, Vietnam was considered the worst foreign policy defeat. But nowadays, it looks like a typical end result for USA foreign policy. We haven't won a war outright since World War II (Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan)
