I LOVE the idea but the execution is stupid.

I was STUNNED at the end of 2 when there's hundreds of assassins and they are everywhere in the city by the hundreds....that is F@CKING STUPID beyond belief.

How do these people earn money if there's thousands of assassins in a city? It's like something a stoner on drug would come up with and not realize it's illogical.

The action scenes are dumb too.

A good action scene would be one or two guys against Wick where they are like ninjas. Meanwhile, it's a whole disco full of guys with machine guns and whatnot all die. Meanwhile, no one just decides to empty their guns in Wick's direction or shoot him from behind.

Again, this is like something invented by a person who has never been in a fight and can't even imagine it. So, the fight scenes for me are a "What?!" kind of experience.

I'm a person who likes science fiction and can accept wild ideas but Wick is more like a wacky cartoon so I'm not able to get into it because it's too silly.

No, that's not how it would work.

I see a film like John Wick as hyper reality. It's not meant to take place in the real world. I mean, even without that central park scene, it's a film about a bunch of assassins who can seek refuge in a hotel by using gold coins. It's already telling you it's kind of cartoonish. My issue is when it gets boring. And that's what the endless actions scenes in 4 started doing.

Hard agree

I love the first movie. Well executed unique, no filler action movie with fun, realistic choreography. Everything after that turned into a goofy cartoon. Went from Keanu fighting a couple goons in his house by using stealth and assassin skills to take them out 1 by 1, to running face first into a hails of bullets, just by ducking his face into a bulletproof suit. u wot

Yeah, first movie, not bad...second movie I was literally stunned and angry.

In the first film, MAYBE you could walk into a room full of guys with guns and kill everyone, but you could only do it once.

Since he's an assassin they should have switched up on tactics as the film's plot changed.

I like the hotel idea.

There was a film with Jodie Foster called Hotel Artemis that I liked that ALSO about a hotel for criminals. I don't know how you get that idea coming up twice around the same time, but I liked that too.

I have been interested in "Hyper Reality" for years and I guess you could see these movies as something like that. They are "realistic" depictions of something that is not real.

The point of that is to say something about actual reality.

I can see Wick being about the struggle to be left alone.

What do you think?

Still, they are hard for me to watch as enjoyable films.

I agree. WAY too unrealistic due to the fight scenes lasting 30 mins each to the point they get boring. The other 3 were WAY better. Also the movie was WAYYYYYYYYY too long.

JW1 was ok, entertaining - some vaguely new(ish) ideas - Mcshane was inspired casting.

Rest just went doon the hill reeking of cash in for mindless plebs. 3 was particularly laughable.

I mean, the series isn't going to be for everybody just like any other films. The thing I liked most about it is actually the well done fight choreography and actions set pieces. The plot is simple but interesting. But yeah, even though it's set in a world just like ours, it's cranked up by a notch. I dig these type of films as long as they're well done.

But it seems like it's now running out of steam and the filmmaker kind of went full retard with the excessive action scenes.
