When I started my business 4+ years ago, all my closest and best friends got extremely jealous, stole my business idea from me and competed against me.

It came out of the blue as well. From then on, everything became THEM vs ME.

In the end, i'm the winner who made a lot of $$$$$ but lost all my friends.

Maybe it's for the better, but it still sucks losing all your lifelong friends over night for a reason like this.

Even when I was killing it, I still wanted to help them succeed. But they wouldn't have it, for some reason, their main goal was to beat me, but it would never happen without my help and advice lol...

2 of my buddies from HS so almost 15 years of friendship and we see eachother every couple of months, either he drives out to us in CA or we go to him in Arizona, feels good to have stayed close for so long now.

We did have a 4th but he was the kind of guy that would get a gf and you'd never see them apart or he would blow us off to get his dik wet and it got old so after HS we just stopped including him lol

Storytime.

When I was 4, my buddies in daycare who lived in the same tiny neighborhood all became a group of inseparable friends. I'm talking tighter than the "Goonies" or the kids in "IT". There were 4 of us, and my absolute best friend lived 3 houses down the street.

This was the 80's. Wake up before dawn, grab your bike and go rap on your friend's door or bedroom window to get them outside. We'd all bike ride everywhere, explore local forests, play street hockey, tag, kick the can, sleepovers, all the 80's fun stuff. Drop your bike in whomever's yard to drink from their hose and maybe grab a snack their mom prepared. Sometimes home for dinner and back out, or just skip dinner until the sun went down. When they'd get in a fight at school, I'd come out of nowhere and give the bully beatdown treatment. Happened quite often with each of them.

The years rolled by and we remained a tight-knit group, shoveling snow for money, delivering newspapers and spending time with girl crushes outside of Elementary school.

My parents moved about an hour bike ride away from the group in Junior high. I tried to keep the crew together, calling and organizing get-togethers and weekend bike rides to their area. Slowly, they all dropped out of contact and I realized if I didn't initiate, I'd never hear from any of them.

I got a car at 16 and could visit them easily, but when I went to knock on the bestie's door, he answered and said he's busy tonight, but we talked for a bit in front of his house. A car full of other teenagers showed up and he said "gotta go, later" and jumped in with them. BROOTAL, now I know why they ghosted me, they got new groups of friends.

Initialize Hermit mode. I didn't talk to any of them since then, except for the former best friend. Once or twice per year, he even invited me to his wedding, which I attended and was hammered by nostalgic emotions and booze. We stayed in touch until our 30's, but I got married and didn't invite him since we barely talked and it was a tiny wedding. Contacted him a couple times in the past 15 years, but yeah, he never initiated any calls or texts. That's just how people are.

Looking back, I was probably the Stiffler of the group, kind of loud, funny and perverted, but would stick up for them to the point of throwing myself in front of a bus to keep them safe.

Every good friend I've had since, eventually drops out of my life, so I stopped bothering and am just enjoying my wife and kids. She has her hot friends over each month and that's plenty enough for me.

In saying all that, there is no friendship like childhood friendship. All that discovery and endless Summer fun is irreplaceable.

Been tight with a dude since HS(10+ yrs), he was never a ******* until he started going out with some SJW nurse bish. Anyways, he stopped being friends with me cause I wouldn't take the clot shot. Ayyyylmao, guess I'm better off without that ******* anyways.

Just makes me sad to see parts/memories of your life die when you can't reminisce with old buddies.

School friend of mine was what I considered a good friend until late 20s when he got married. Weeks or months would go by between meeting up. When we met up it would always be to his benefit in some way, or if he needed something. One time he messaged out of the blue asking me to build him a website for free which I declined. Days of slaving for nothing no thanks Jeffrey.

I realised the dude was just feathering his own nest. I last saw him 9 years ago and every so often I get a call which I don't answer. Even after all these years I know that he doesn't really care about the friendship and probably still thinks I owe him a website. I have no interest in the Aristotelian utility type of friendship especially when it started as something stronger.

Kind of fuked to go to your childhood friends wedding and get smashed because you went emo mode and then not invite him because it was 'a small wedding'. You sound just as shtty. Inviting someone to your wedding (especially first) even if you haven't talked to them in ages is one of the ultimate signs of respect/apology (given the situation). Hope now you're older can see the mistake in that. Out of ALL my friends I grew up with or people I knew there's only been 1 wedding I was invited to. It was from one of my current best friends that I met in HS. I even flew from the other side of the world to attend, fly in and fly out because he had asked me to be his Best Man. Sadly for some reason he "claims" I never told him I was coming and so he had chosen someone else, found that out when I got there. Still leaves a sour taste in my mind but I was still happy to be able to attend and I know it meant the world to him.

Everyone else whom I had known or grown up with from 1st grade up to HS, never invited. Out of my childhood group all still live within 1-2 hours. Haven't seen or spoken to any of them in a # of years. The times I did reach out or make contact I always left the door open letting them know whenever they wanted to meet up to let me know. That hasn't happened. It's just how it is. They're more focused on their marriages/restrictions and that's fine. Being social and meeting new people comes easy for me. Wouldn't be difficult to make new friends. Life goes on. Interesting to add that I have closer/better friends from overseas who I've only known a few years compared to people I've known almost my whole life. Can really see the difference between Western socialization priorities compared to other countries in that respect. I've been back stateside for a year and a half and pretty much no one has messaged me or checked up on me. Meanwhile I get at least one message a week from someone back there asking when I'll be back.

This so much. Frustrating af when people leave you on read, doesn't even matter if it's something important or not, to me it's a sign of respect (or disrespect) to act like this. Though I realize not everyone gives responses the same significance, so I don't hold it against people.

I have to respond to people, if I notice I forgot to respond to someone I will immediately follow up, whether it's been a few hours or a few weeks lol

Either everyone got married or I just felt like they aren’t safe enough to continue a friendship with. I’m too old to be riding around with drugs in my car or drinking and driving on a weekday. Seems mf these days are riding around blasting music with no insurance smoking dope and drinking at noon. Why the hell I want to get into someone’s car doing that!

A couple years ago, I heard he died in a tragic accident. It was a huge shame to hear it, for sure. I even thought about sending a well-wishes letter to his parents regarding that bad news.

Then I stopped and remembered the fact that I was seriously wasting my time putting any thought into it at all. I mean, he didn't care enough about me to give me the time of day when he was still living despite multiple times where I tried making that easy for him to do, so I can't imagine he would thought to have done anything like that for me if the roles weee reversed.
I fully understand the "give as much as you get" mentality, since that's largely how I operate as well.

That said, this card isn't for him, it's for his parents. You shouldn't let how other people behave dictate your actions. You are clearly the kind of person who is nice enough to want to send that sort of card for someone who didn't care, so their lack of caring shouldn't make you be a colder person. His parents will undoubtedly appreciate it, even if he wouldn't or would never do the same.

mostly because they/i moved away or switched jobs. never had that many close friends, only a handful, but most of them were from living in the same apartment complex or working at the same place. only regularly hung out with one HS friend after HS until early 20's than same as i mentioned before.

Knowing that my eff9rts most likely wouldn't generate even some cookie cutter response from them makes me not wanna bother. I guess I just don't see the point in letting myself feel burned again over it when they guy left me high and dry during life with no explanation.
That's fair, I wouldn't blame you for not wanting to expend the energy for what would likely be nothing. Just trying to get the point across that (As cliche and basic white girl as this will sound) you should let others dim your light if that makes sense.

If a card is worth the energy to you, no one suffers from you sending one, so don't let spite be the reason you hold back. If it's not, unlikely anyone will suffer anyways. So up to you how to handle it.

Its cuz they need to fill the wedding seats so you get invited to something you aren't really invited to. Plus free gift with no follow-up.

pretty sure grooms have a list of people they invite whom they already plan to go no-contact on.

When I say small wedding, I mean there were enough seats for immediate family from both sides, plus a few relatives. One side of my family is still butthurt from not being invited. Had I invited a friend, his wife and kids, whom I never even met his kids, and hadn't seen buddy in over 8 years at the time... That would have been odd to replace my close relatives with them
